There is a black hole of doom that contains the Texas shithole companies like Dickeys barbecue and blue bell.  Whataburger is circling into the suck ring and is about to join them.  I don’t tell out of towners to eat there anymore.  Don’t want their disappointment backing up on me.

Son picked me up at the airport yesterday, ordered WB on the app while driving back toward home.  New location, open less than a month.  Placed the order, app gave me a time window when they would bring it out curbside.  Fifteen minutes after that time had elapsed, I walked in to hear them calling my name like it was a pick up in store order, but they didn't have drinks made up yet.  Messed those up too.

Sad, the modern version does not even come close to the nostalgic memories.

Whataburger's online pickup leaves a shit ton to be desired. Taco bell is nails (why the fuck are you ordering on the intercom like it's 1974?)

My local WB has been great for app ordering and curbside pickup. I actually drive up, park, order on the app, and I usually beat drive thru nerds.

The "Premium Craft Beverage" for Q3 appears to be Prickly Pear Raspberry, per a billboard I saw today in Tennessee.  It appeared to be a color that does not occur in nature (pink-ish).  No thanks.

OK, Whataburger fans, how many of you have one of these? I just found it while cleaning out the old shed. Probably dates back to the 1900s. I don't even remember this shit.

Grandy's was a great change of pace fried chicken joint. I used to stop at the one in Austin back in the day on my semi-frequent trips, back when I-35 wasn't nearly the torturous beatdown it is today.

I loved Grandy’s as a kid. Rolls slapped. Got less exciting when I saw the granny rolling around and picking rolls off tables where people left and putting them back in the basket. Hey maybe they fell on the floor or got sneezed on but maybe they didn’t.

My buddy worked at Grandy's. The stories he told me about the conditions of that place in the back were vomit inducing. Never ate there again.

I worked at Whataburger. There were some gross things just like behind the scenes of most FF places, but for the most part it was pretty clean and well run.

We had one down in McAllen back in the 80’s when I was kid.   I liked their chicken fried steaks  more than their fried  chicken although that was good too especially compared to the crap you find today at fried chicken places although I haven’t been to a Popeyes or KFC in ages so imagine it’s still crap.

If I recall it did have a distinctive smell too and a pleasant one.

I was looking up that toy to see how far back it goes, looks like late 90s, and this popped up in the search. Should be in a museum.

In the late 90s/early 2000s, the Grandy's in Hillsboro was the stop to feed the kids on the way north. Could always get them a vegetable. After the weekend driving back south it was always Braums though.

Granny’s at Westgate was our go to, even during my Church’s day I’d enjoy their fried chicken as well as cfs and their breakfast. Their rolls were better than what Church’s offered at the time.

The BBQ Joint across the street from the Westgate Grandy's (where Sap's is now) also had a kick ass breakfast.

Richard Jones.  We used to hit it after our ortho appointments right there.
