Maybe it’s cause im a millennial, but I was pretty disappointed at how tame Blazing Saddles was the first time I saw it. All I heard about beforehand was how un-PC and offensive it was. But when you grow up watching South Park & family guy, hearing the n-word thrown around 100x a day in rap songs and by wannabe white tough guys in online gaming lobbies, watching porn & seeing videos of actual people getting killed on liveleak and bestgore not much fazes you anymore.

Pretty much what I was getting at. That shit was tame as can be for me. I get that it was probably edgy in those days but I didn't see it in those days so I am going to judge it in these times. A good chunk of that movie fell flat for me. It wasn't bad but as hyped up as it was, I was extremely disappointed. Does not hold up at all compared to other comedies in those days.

Theses posts make sense-- I was just thinking "what is it about people that clothing stores can't stay in business?". Brooks Brothers and Lucky Brand Jeans filed for bankruptcy in July. Van Heusen and Izod Golf both shut down all their stores and fired 500 people. Jos A. Bank and Men's Warehouse shut down 500 stores in a pre-bankruptcy move. This is just July. And pre-covid-19 there Neiman Marcus and J Crew and many, many others.
My question was, did we as a society just stop wearing clothes as much? Culturally we just don't need to look as put together 5x a week? Or is it that people had 2 pairs of pants and shorts they wear for 3-4 years and the same 3 or 4 golf shirts? Or was it that we had too many retail/clothing stores?
I think the answer this page has given me is graphic t-shirts.

I haven’t worn pants or a collared shirt in 150+ days. I’m sure that’s not unusual right now. Who needs to buy clothes for the foreseeable future?

Same here, and I used to have even more but a few years ago my wife tricked me into allowing her to cut some of the older ones into scraps with the as-of-yet unfulfilled promise to sew them all into a quilt.

What kind of grown ass man has 150 - 200 shirts of any kind?

Even pre-covid though, the trend of retail/clothing sales was so bad clothiers were dropping like flies.

But yes, covid-19 might have been the tipping point of no return graphic shirts and gym shorts and flip flops is the uniform.

More options available so the revenue is spread out across more companies.  Also, a lot of these companies were shit at managing costs.

One that collects graphic T shirts.  I dig advertising art, always have.  I have a large collection of original, 1900-1950's advertising, and political posters. T shirts are a great vehicle for that same kind advertising in the 20th c..

This right here. Blazing Saddles was a good movie, but I wouldn't consider it raunchy nowadays compared to what fellow millennials grew up experiencing.

The only time I have worn a collared shirt in the last 6 months was on the golf course. And count me in the Covid +15 group. I have more time to exercise than ever before, but for some reason I can’t bring myself to do it. I need to snap the fuck out of it.

The F won't people acknowledge a good deed or manners in this state anymore?  When you're driving a neighborhood and you pull to the right (curb) to allow car opposite you to pass.  I seem to recall acknowledgement with a wave pretty much standard when I left the state in the 90's.  Now I'm lucky to see 1 in 5 politely wave as they pass.

Have that many Yankees moved here over the past 20 years?

Yea definitely a woman thing. I think if a man is obsessed with feminine luxury brands, it's weird or aspirational (e.g. grew up poor/ghetto, see the other thread about wealth indicators when you were growing up).

When my youngest was a baby my wife had a $3k LV diaperbag/backpack thing. She said, "hey it's great, you can wear it too when you need to and it's cool/hip". I sold it on the secondary market for $1900. The $1100 haircut was worth every penny to not follow a fashion trend set by 2Chainz.

That said, I do fall prey to some groupthink/peer pressure and own (more subdued and understated) Thomas Pink suits, Ferragamo belt and bit loafers, along with a couple Hermes ties in case someone tries to give me the ole Lehman Bros. handshake after hours in the Rainbow Room. I won't have my good named sullied, after all.

All of those brands are very big in the rap community. It is a status symbol and a way to show people you have money and have "made it". And jewelry as well.

Waving still goes on a lot in the smaller towns. No one in the big cities will wave at anyone from my experience.

And how does the pulling over supposed to work? Both of the people driving are coming opposite of each other. Both have curbs to the right of them. Streets should be wide enough for 2 cars unless the street is packed with cars lined up and down the streets. I will pull over if I am on the side of the street that is being blocked with a car or some item and let he other car pass me.

You gotta cut yourself loose of all that shit man.  I think our diaper bag and all my clothes combined are worth less than your original LV price tag.  It’s liberating, not giving a fuck.  You should try it.  Feels so good; and that’s coming from a guy who is being invited by Rex Kramer to attend some serious oil meetings tomorrow in Odessa.

I always pull over because I'm truly never in a big enough hurry to play chicken.

A couple of weeks ago I pulled over because the woman turning right from a the cross street ahead wouldn't have had the time or space to reciprocate.  All of the sudden, a car full of people come flying by on my left honking at me and almost running the other car off the road.

Holding the door for someone and they don't say thank you.  That's a real pisser.

and yeah, when I'm driving, I'll wave from the top of the steering wheel to acknowledge a kind act/ good manners from another driver. When i was 18, I made a 99 on my military driving test because I waved at another driver who let me know I could pass by on their left.  Instructor accused me of being country as fuck, and she wasn't wrong.  It was part Forrest Gump and part Woodrow Call.

To sort of combine these two items, when another driver really fucks up (almost changes lanes into you on the interstate because they didn't check their mirrors, etc.) but they give you that "holy shit, my bad, I know I just almost screwed the pooch, thanks for looking out for me" apology wave, it's impossible to stay angry.

But on the rare occasions that they double down and give you the finger or whatever when it was clearly their fuckup, those are the people who deserve to be victims of road rage incidents.

They aren't bad movies but the hype I heard about both of them, they were big letdowns when I finally saw them. The only good things for me was I then understood the quotes and references from each movie.

Now the movie Airplane, that was some funny shit. Loved that one.

You hooking up on a blind date, only to find out out South Austins mom doesn't weigh 300lbs, now that's some funny shit.

Nascar!

I don't fucking get Nascar at all. I love fast cars and motorcycles, but why the fuck would anyone want to watch 500+ laps? How does that prove who is the best driver or who has the fastest car? Just give me 5 maybe 10 hard laps or GTFO!

A mofo like me that goes to a shitload of concerts.  I have about 200 black concert shirts in my closet.  About 90% of them still fit.

that's acceptable, because the expression of those shirts (i like these bands) has meaning to you

but these random ones where the message is so confusing , but so loud, what exactly are people saying with it?

"i endeavor to visit new england"

"im a fan of pop art, and spanish holidays"

"japanese is the best language"

"im a systems administrator, but i also have a sense of humor"
