Mamdani literally interviewed hundreds of working class New Yorkers and asked them what matters to them and why they voted for Trump. His platform is based almost entirely on direct feedback from voters, not the pages Jacobin.

Yes, we should absolutely let the free market sort out the housing market in New York, and in San Francisco, LA and DC, where it has been deeply obstructed for 50 years. But more to the point, fantasyland leftist populism is no more the answer to the direction of the party than rapey old men who won’t go away.

That’s a great point I will concede. Leftist populism definitely has the appeal of having voters choose overall terrible policy decisions in favor of their immediate self interest.

I think it’s more likely that no one outside the pages of The Nation or Jacobin thinks “freeze the rents” or “socialize the grocery stores” is sound public policy.

Beto + Bernie + Kendall Scudder doing some anti-oligarch townhalls across Texas. Very positive signs so far from Tex Dems' new leadership.

Kendall has been spreading the anti oligarch message since he stepped into the chair.  In Texas it resounds past the tech bros, spotlighing the billionaires in this state (& out of staters) who funded the war on public education, among other things.  He keeps reminding people that this is a fight between the top and bottom, not right or left.

  • As of Q4 2023, Texas’ Gross State Product (GSP) was about $2.664 trillion reddit.com+4en.wikipedia.org+4en.wikipedia.org+4.

  • The billionaires’ combined wealth (~$966 billion) thus represents roughly 36% of the entire state’s annual GSP.

  • According to Every Texan, in 2023, just 66 of those billionaires controlled more wealth than 70% of all Texans combined

Whatever they say about the other cultural issues, that is basically cover smoke for the movement toward Oligarchy.    I'm headed to Amarillo tomorrow for the Sunday event.  This is from McAllen
