It occurs to me that William Zabka, despite being universally recognizable as that guy who played the douchebag in every 80s movie, was:

1. Actually only in 4 movies that anyone has ever heard of, with all of them being released around the same time in the mid 80s;

2. Did nothing for 25 years; and

3. Had a “resurgence” that is really just a few cameos making fun of his 80s notoriety, and then Cobra Kai.

I’m sure he is like the poster boy in the modern era for getting typecast, but it still seems weird how brief his career actually was.

Nobody thought bill Zanjan would make it big.  Too one dimensional.   Same with biff tannen

Why doesn't Ricky Schroder have a EGOT?

speaking of, Philip Michael Thomas coined the term "EGOT" when he predicted he'd win it.  he had a lot going for him as Tubbs on Miami Vice.  lots of people predicted big things for him.  but alas, that was pretty much the high point.

Death tends to cut a career short.

And sadly, it continues to be the number one killer of promising actors and actresses.

I had no idea Philip Michael Thomas and Miss Cleo hocked the same shit way back when.  I loved that he still dressed like he was working cases near South Beach.

File this one under “made it big, but in a totally different direction than I expected.”

First of all, I submit to the jury that a Rocketeer-era Jennifer Connelly was the most perfect of God’s creations to ever grace Hollywood’s silver screen:

image.thumb.jpeg.8304791200e621df63c0e198a61bdfe8.jpeg

I thought for sure that she would become a Bond Girl/bombshell/top of the poster type Hollywood star, always the sexiest woman alive and in that role.

Aside from a terrible movie about Target and Mulholland Falls that didn’t happen. She was a great junkie and became a really amazing, serious actress who played roles where she was always beautiful, but that was never the main focus like A Beautiful Mind, or even was BETRAYED in favor of Scarlett J. in some shit rom-com.  Which could never have happened to Rocketeer Jennifer Connelly.

Not a bad point about Jennifer Connelly -- she never really had any great lead roles, and aside from A Beautiful Mind was usually in a supporting role.  As much of a smoke show she is, I don't think she has great range.  She's very good in her roles, but I guess I've never seen anything from her that showed her ability to carry a movie.

I'd still let her have sexual relations with me, though.

Well, she was 21 in the Rocketeer and 39 to Scar Jo’s 25 in He’s Just Not That Into You. That’s just how time and younger pussy works. I think the moral of that movie is that is must be pretty fucking nice to be Bradley Cooper.

Fair enough. Just thinking that Scarlett is on the tail end of sex bomb and spandex roles at 37 thanks to the magic of movies and Hollywood trainers. We didn’t benefit from that kind of run with Connelly.

Probably goes without saying but there's some fucking awesome clips of her doing some soft porn action.  It's on this site.  I think she also had a breast reduction?  Young JC was perfection.

I know Scarlett has had more of an "It Girl" career, but IMO---Connelly has a much more timeless beauty to her for the last 30 years.  They're both lovely, not even sure how they got into the same conversation here but from Target to Ass-to-Ass to whatever she stars in in 2030...Connelly is just wonderful.

Jennifer would make sweet passionate love to you, mostly missionary, and maybe she'd let you do her from behind for a short while.

Scarlett would let you do dirty things to her.  Very dirty naughty things.

I know this.

Watching The Wire for the first time (only on Season 2, no spoilers please) but it is kind of interesting to see in hindsight which actors have made it big.  Would have never predicted that Wallace would end up being (arguably) the most famous person to come from that cast.  And that some characters like Bodie, who crush every scene they are in, haven't been seen since.

I'm on Season 5, also having never watched it before, and it might rank as one of my favorite TV series of all time.  Such an incredible cast, and the producers made a deliberate effort to cast mostly unknowns -- I really only recognized Commissioner Burrell as the "Now don't be pulling that falling down the stairs shit on me again!" landlord from Coming to America.

In addition to Wallace, Stringer Bell has also had a pretty decent career.  But yeah, other that that, most of the cast wound up as future character actors at best.  Kinda surprised that McNulty -- the ostensible lead actor -- didn't do more.

And no spoilers, but so far Season 4 is my favorite.  Some heart-breaking shit there.

Yeah Michael B. Jordan and Idris Elba are definitely the top 2.  Michael K. Williams, Wood Harris, and Lance Riddick are probably in the next tier, but pretty slim pickings after that.  Makes the show even more impressive, IMO.  And I'm eager to get into some of the later seasons as I've heard they're phenomenal.

Someone earlier mentioned Shannon Elizabeth.  I’d say that entire American Pie female act person kind of slumped, and Elizabeth was clearly the weak link except for her fantastic boob job.

Mena Suvari was my favorite at 17 years old, went on to do a serious movie in American Beauty (Academy bait that does NOT hold up) and then a few forgettable roles and disappeared.

Tara Reid was an It Girl for a hot minute and then basically drove her career, sobriety, and figure into the ditch.

And band geek Alyson Hannigan put together the most visible show biz career of all of them and turned out to be sneaky hot.

Well, and the Harvey Weinstein scandal shows how the casting couch hits women especially hard.  The curse of the best supporting actress is no bullshit: Mira Sorvino, Elizabeth Shue, Marisa Tomei…. It’s amazing how many of those actresses suddenly became “difficult to work with”

There have been rumors for years that Scarlett Johansson had a certain amount of ethical flexibility when it came to getting early roles.

That curse hit Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Rachel Weisz, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, Anne Hathaway, and Penelope Cruz HARD.

Wait…..

Good post.  Suvari wasn't even the hottest in American Beauty, Thora Birch was.  Reid used to be a 9.5

None of the dudes from American Pie hit it big either.  Chris Klein and Stiffler looked like they were getting there and then fell off the face of the earth.

Yeah, that whole cast really peaked.  I also should have clarified that I was 17 when I first saw Mena Suvari in that flick.

She was pretty good in 13 Ghosts.

No nudity though, which was very disappointing.

Also, how about Saved by the Bell?  None of the women did jack after the show.  Mario Lopez hit it big of course, but the rest, bleh

Tiffany Amber Theissen in the after school time slot is how I knew I was straight, looking back.  Elizabeth Berkeley took all her clothes off, and gave a terrible performance, and headlined a complete bomb.  Hollywood wasn’t going to forgive all three of those. Lark Voorhees did some makeup commercials I think.

The woman who did the best was Leah Remini, who starred in the beach club episodes. She also became a Scientologist and then stopped being one.

Also remember when Kelly Kapowski and Jessie Spano disappeared from the show for no explained reason and were replaced by a girl in a leather jacket? And no one ever even mentioned the other two or acted like that was weird?

Lark Voorhees got famous for being a plastic-surgery-gone-wrong botched meme or something if memory serves.

McNulty has been in a ton of shit. Hell, he was the lead in another popular HBO series, The Affair, that lasted 5 years.
