Bobby Burton speculating that it's Fisch.

Gerry said Fisch was on same staff with Durkin under Harbaugh at Michigan (2015).

Rumors at aggy is coach will be announced no later than next week, and it's a Power 5 coach -- so Traylor is likely not their hire.

Not surprised to see Fisch wanting to leave Zona with the University's financial crisis.

Would be funny for Michigan to steal Fisch from aggys -- not sure what the he'll Harbaugh will do next year.  🤔

Fisch used Connor Stalions to help him recruit and assemble his UA team.

Citing Stalions’s LinkedIn, ESPN reportedthat he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California during his Marines service. In addition to his travels to Michigan, Stalions claimed he would drive to Tucson, Ariz., to help former Michigan offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch as he transitioned to his new Wildcats coaching job. While Stalions wrote that he did odd jobs for Fisch at times in Ann Arbor, the initial connection was through Partridge, the Michigan linebackers coach whom Stalions called one of his “closest friends.” He said Partridge gave him his initial inroad at Michigan, allowing him to help out at the school while he was on spring break from the Naval Academy. Stalions wrote that he went to Fisch’s house in California while he was working as an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Ramsto help him organize his coaching materials. When Fisch got the Arizona job, that led to, as Stalions claims, his essentially being assistant to Fisch’s chief of staff, with a hand in the Wildcats’ roster management.

Alright, which one of you buggers sent the letter to Sumlin?

That is a horrible mischaracterization of UT and I won’t stand for it. I demand that he retract that tweet and tell the truth. I’ll go ahead and draft his correction for him: “The sips spend an extremely small amount of time successfully destroying Aggie football. This has been happening for decades. Jackie was a cheater who got caught. Racists who wouldn’t be claimed by any university sent that racist letter to Sumlin.”

Most of New Jersey is much prettier than College Station. Plus, no aggy and you're close to NYC. Gimme Jersey over B/CS.

Camden, Hoboken, and Jersey City suck. The rest of Jersey is really pretty; not called the Garden State for nothing. Even the jersey shore is kinda awesome. Solid food, people with comical jersey accents, bars that stay open late, high likelihood of getting laid. Cool place.

College station, is fucking terrible. It’s a hot, mosquito and roach infested, hellhole inhabited by frustrated closet homosexuals and girls who wear their pajamas to bible study to repent for having sex with her high school boyfriend, whom she’s still dating even though he’s a closet homosexual. The buildings are Soviet style. The restaurants… well I can’t say that I’ve ever been to one, unless you count the Dixie chicken. Fuck that place. I’d rather coach a girls soccer team in Kandahar or something. They’re fucking aggy idiots.

Yeah, it's a metric-fucking-ton more believable that the racist Sumlin letter was sent from posh Houston private club by aggy than it was Texas fans subterfuging.

Are they still actually blaming that on us? Wasn't that proven by even Liucci to be some racist aggy asshat in Houston?

Funny, Bobby, like Fisch, never played football at any level.  He was a tier 2 tennis player and spinach eater in high school.

Would be interesting to read the contract but I think it would be absolutely idiotic by Aggy to put out any public statement to the effect (or even leak) that an agreement was reached (with anyone) if trying to hire a coach with a reduced buyout.  An oral agreement can be binding if supported by evidence so better safe than sorry.    But knowing Aggy, they would probably fuck that up.

They're not worried, they got advice from that RonCo law school they bought a couple of years ago--the one Sharp saw on a late-night infomercial.

Oral agreement you say, is that anything like a gentleman’s agreement? Asking for aggy

Maybe so, but with the Pac implosion and Arizona's budget crisis, I would imagine anyone who can get a job anywhere else will bail.
In spite of all their bluster, aggy is about to have a budget crisis of their own. Of course none of that matters to a coach who has a signed contract in hand.

Announcement next Wed by latest. (Gerry)
Rumor is that the New Coach will be keeping most of current defensive staff in hopes of retaining the "stacked" defensive roster per Bobby Burton.
That's a demand from aggy themselves, remains to be seen if any coach will sign on under the condition they can't hire their own staff on both sides of the ball.

247 saying it ain't Elko

Spoiler

When athletics director Nina King hired Mike Elko away from Texas A&M as the head coach of the Duke University football program on Dec. 10, 2021, the move was lauded across the sports world. Twelve months later, the program was coming off a nine-win season that many thought was years away, its first bowl game appearance (and win) in four years, and all the positive momentum in the world.

Eighteen months after Elko first signed the contract to become the Blue Devils' head coach, King reinforced her commitment to the 46-year-old's vision for the program with a restructured deal that would keep him in Durham through the 2029 season. The new agreement included commitments to the program's assistant coach and support staff salary pools that would "future-proof" the financial deals with not just Elko but the people around him that have turned the results on the field around in record time.

"Over the last 18 months, Coach Elko has cultivated and executed a plan to push Duke Football forward with tremendous attention to detail, energy and a persistent commitment to excellence," King said. "His passionate dedication to the Duke experience sets the standard, and we are fortunate to have him and the entire staff developing the young men in our program into elite student-athletes and future community leaders. Coach Elko's vision acutely aligns with the principles of the university, and I could not be more excited to have him guide Duke Football well into the future."

While the exact details of Elko's contract are unknown due to the university's private status, multiple sources have indicated to TheDevilsDen.com that he and his assistants are considered to be compensated in the top third of the ACC for now and the foreseeable future. The question of whether that financial commitment to the program is enough to keep Elko in Durham with the astronomical nature of college coaching salaries these days remains to be seen, as Elko's name has been considered for nearly every Power Five opportunity that has come open since the carousel began.

It's not wise to be definitive in this job of reporting on athletes and coaches in sport, as it seems like things can change at a moment's notice, but myself and Jeff Tarpley from GigEm247.com have been hard at work gathering information on where things stand with Elko. After talking to numerous sources, we feel comfortable reporting that Elko has indicated to multiple people, including his players, that his intention is to stay in Durham as the head coach at Duke.

After this Saturday's season finale against Pittsburgh, Elko is expected to be on the road recruiting his 2024 class including in-home visits with commitments as soon as Dec. 1. The following Saturday, Dec. 8, a number of those commitments will make a trip up to Durham for what is being termed "Homecoming" in order to welcome the 22-man class in to the program. I have been in touch with every commitment in the class, and they all plan to be in attendance that day unless they are still participating in the playoffs with their high school teams. They are all operating under the expectation that Elko will be their head coach next season.

At this time, I feel comfortable stating that will be the case.

Fisch refuted a lot of the above info...

in case anyone was curious, top third of 14 teams = top 5 overall = he is making <5 million / year

image.png.e1cba5e2b997be12d046d3c998062ca5.png

5th sized assistant pool (excluding Miami and Duke) is also <5m per the USA today database (Clemson at 7.75, UNC at 6.6, FSU at 6.5, NC State at 5.8, Va Tech at 5.1 + Miami is going to be over $5m also)

and if Elko actually says "uh, not thanks" then that is a HUGE black mark on the job or shows that those idiots are going to pay $76m only to to cheap out on staff and coach pay is fucking hilarious. they need to clear the decks in the AD at this point - if that happens

Whomever they hire will end up with same ole 10 win ceiling, 7-8 win average season.

That's who they are.

Nick Saban caliber coaches don't want to coach there.

They need to accept their fate.

They'll going to hire a flashy G5 coach and be in the same position in 3-5 years.

Watch.

College Station don't even have a pappadeauxs/ Baylor people.

Has Johnny Fucking Football shot bar and vomitorium though. Thats worth something.

People will live anywhere for millions of dollars. Baton Rouge. Memphis. West Virginia. Starkville. List is long
If Fisch does take it, he won't last long.

He don’t care as long as that buyout is nice.

They use the term Sumlin 2.0 without realizing that Sumlin is their ceiling. They should want Sumlin 2.0 because that is as good as it gets.

if you want a very real laugh, their top 5 coaches by win% since 1950:

  • RC Slocum: 72.1% --> fired
  • Kevin Sumlin: 67.7% --> fired
  • Jimbo Fisher: 65.0% --> fired
  • Jackie Sherrill: 64.8% --> cheated, forced to resign
  • Emory Bellard: 64.0% --> fired

they only have 1 other coach since 1950 that won even 60% of their games; Bear Bryant won 63.4%

If they could claim any part of Bryant's national championships they would.  The fanbase already does.

Yes…except an Oral agreement can be considered valid if evidence can be shown supporting it’s clarity and validity, where a gentlemen's agreement can be assumed to tell aggy to go get their shine box.
