Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Now We Have a Machine Gun

What’s the story with LSU recruiting suddenly getting so strong? They’ve fired their defensive staff and yet they flipped Aggies late and are out of the gates strong in 2025. I know they used to push for early commits and probably still are, but with that said, they don’t typically lose many that do commit early.

Don't forget their OC dipped for ND and they still don't have a replacement. Feels like boosters seeing UT/OU coming in strong and Ole Miss/Tennessee on the rise and being scared of getting lost in the middle of the SEC. Not making a 12 team playoff spooks them I imagine.

The big time in-state guys I haven't seen confirmed yet that we like are Moore (IT mentioned they think he'll come), Lockett, Armstrong, DJ Sanders, and maybe Kelshaun Johnson?

Same school as Derek Williams. Maybe he can give us a layup since Brian Kelly can't field a defense, and we actually have one with recruits getting drafted, and making the CFP with Sark in year 3. Joseph has been good to us in that state, just sayin...

I'd try to avoid driving over any bridges in Louisiana over the next few years. Sounds like they're scraping together every bit of change they can find.

Apparently they're best friends. I feel like Jaboree has visited most of our home games this year as well.

Justin Wells: 2025 five-star OT Michael Fasusi breaks down his recruitment, visit plans

Quote

Even though his offer list continues to grow, 2025 Lewisville (Texas) OT Michael Fasusi stays the same. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive tackle and On3 Industry Ranking five-star is growing into a more vocal leader for the Farmers in 2024. And he doesn’t take that role lightly. “This year we’re going to have a really young team, and we’ll need leaders to step up, and me and my fellow teammates are going to do just that,” Fasusi told Inside Texas. “For me, it’s about being a good leader on and off the field. Make sure I’m doing the right thing so others can follow.”

With 30+ offers including Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and LSU it appears Texas and Oklahoma have separated themselves from the pack.

Fasusi is looking at several junior day visits over the next few weeks. He’s scheduled to visit Texas A&M this weekend, and he’s a maybe for Austin on January 20th. He’s getting to know the new staff in College Station, and he stays close to the OU staff. But Texas continues to set the pace. “(My relationship) with Texas is going great,” said Fasusi. “Coach (Kyle) Flood and Coach (Steve Sarkisian) are amazing. I stay in contact with everybody. That’s what I’m really loving about Texas and OU, it’s the communication. Coach Sark and coach Flood talk to me every week.”

He’s been to the local schools, and now he’d like to see a few from afar. “Definitely Oregon, I’m trying to plan a visit there on the 27th,” Fasusi said. “Missouri is really coming on. LSU, I’m liking LSU too.” Fasusi is a dual-sport athlete who also excels in tack and field where he competes in the shot put and discus. His personal record in the shot put is 46-10 and his PR in the discus is 115-8.

He’s the No. 14 overall prospect and No. 2 offensive tackle in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Texas. On3 ranks Fasusi as the No. 35 overall prospect, the No. 5 offensive tackle, and the No. 8 player in Texas.

The Skinny: The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder will be a Michigan vs. the SEC battle. The DFW area quick and powerful tackle’s father lives in Michigan, and he has made multiple visits to Ann Arbor. Texas leads the pack in the SEC over Alabama and LSU.

Hasn't Flood's MO been "you can't teach size," ?

I feel like they're comfortable enough with how the line is coming along that they're prepared to take a developmental prospect. Wasn't Cam Williams the same way, or was he more developed as a prospect? Either way I'm on board with TURST THE CORCHES, hell it may take defends long enough to run around him that technique won't matter. They sure as fuck won't be moving him.

Honestly, he looks like Cam Williams in high school but with heavier feet. He plays straight up because he is over 100 lbs heavier than everyone and has no need for technique just like Cam did. I think he would be a mauling guard after 2 years with Flood and our S&C program.

Hey, I'll join the "trust the coaches" crew...maybe he turns into the next Longhorn legend.

That said, I don't see the comparison to Cam Williams aside from both being really large humans.  Cam was a beast in HS and seemed to be a lot quicker out of his stance.  Plus he's a tackle.  I'm not a fan of having 6'8" guards because they effect the QBs vision and throwing lanes.

1st year he may only need to be in the C program

Octavious went to my hgh school (Spring Westfield).   He was a freshman when I was a senior.  Really sweet kid, I was happy to see he got his doctorate and found success after college.   I think the story was he couldn't read when he got to high school.  The coach at the time was Emory Bellard and he helped him out as a freshman.

I know a lot of people around your age from Westfield - Mark Mancini, John Graff, Rick Phelan,  Scott Heindel... I think they are a little older than you, though.

I graduated from Westfield in 1990.  Not sure when those guys would have, but the names dont ring a bell.

Yeah, they are way older - about 5 years. They were mostly engineers at UT and most of their families moved out to the Woodlands later in life.

OSU expecting to get him as well. Their DB coach is proving to be as big of an annoyance as Hartline to recruit against.

I'm pretty sure that UT didn't push for Sanchez and isn't this kid originally from up there?

Correct. Less a Hartline-style recruiting witch and more a uniquely Ohio-centric pair of Texas DBs.
