I've got two episodes left (finished the prison break episode last night -- and WOW) and I'm going to savor every last minute of them. This show is exquisitely good. You might be on to something about ANDOR being "best Star Wars" ever created.

I finished a few weeks ago and was legitimately bummed for a few days afterwards that there were no more episodes.

Broke down and watched the last two episodes last night. Spectacular show and, like you, I'm a little bummed that we won't get new episodes for some time probably.

It was a good show, but I was waiting for it to get dark…and it never did.

Nothing dark at all about imprisoning people perpetually by freeing them from their level of the prison, only to let them go...to another level of the prison for life, all while electrifying the floors to shock anyone to death who dares not obey all orders on time.   Nope.

Nothing dark at all about braining dudes with a blaster because they won't tell you about your sister.  Nope

LOL yeah.

Also - I posted this way up-thread, but it's funny to me when people are like, "Finally a 'dark' Star Wars..!"

Here's a few things that happened in literally the first Star Wars movie:

  • The Empire pursues and kills nearly an entire ship of people because they suspect the ship may be carrying plans to the Death Star.  They don't find the plans but go ahead and kidnap and hold a member of the Imperial Senate anyway.
  • In the process of searching for the plans on Tatooine, they murder and entire tribe of Jawas and also two moisture farmers, none of which have any idea what the plans are or where they are.
  • They brutally torture the kidnapped member of the Imperial Senate because they suspect she may be in league with the Rebel Alliance. When that doesn't work, they destroy her home planet, literally killing billions of people as an interrogation technique.
  • They are attempting to destroy ANOTHER entire planet killing untold numbers as a counter-insurgency method.

Holy Crap.  I just finished the last episode and I fucking loved it!  I'll have to re-watch it to find all of the things I missed the first time.  It started out pretty slow, but goddamn it picked up there at the end,  That was easily the best SW stuff to come out since Rouge One and it's not even close.  I loved The Mandalorain and Obie Wan, but this was sooooo much better than either of those.  I can't wait to see season 2.  Well done SW people, well done!

Thank Tony Gilroy, who's also responsible for Rogue One.

What was surprising with Andor was how incredibly bleak it is at points. The Narkina V arc has a triumphant ending, but we're seeing slave labor under the guise of a justice system, and men being worked to their literal death. We see someone get tortured into a catatonic state by the government with the chopped n' screwed sounds of women and children being slaughtered.

And yet, it's all so distinctly Star Wars. Every episode is so dense with tiny painstaking detail that it's like jumping into the old EU paperbacks, but the writing is lightyears better! And the VISUALS and new settings really expand the universe and paint a beautifully tragic picture of how unbridled growth and authoritarianism will invariably oppress those living under it, even if they just want to be left alone like Cassian did

This was the first series in the whole Star Wars universe which showed how utterly cruel the Empire was. All previous offerings only hinted at the cruelty but then used Storm Troopers as comedy bits in how inept and worthless they were. Empire Strikes Back tried to be dark but they got shit on because it wasn't happy enough.

Gilroy didn't care about appealing to kids and keeping with the mostly kid friendly theme. He made an adult series. Not surprisingly it is THE BEST Star Wars content ever created.

Will the following SW content be so bold or will they straddle the line between kids and adults show and don't do either well.

Most Disney+ SW content will stray to the Mandalorian/Obi Wan style. The next series is Skeleton Crew which is more like Star Wars Goonies. The one that should be good and hopefully more adult is The Acolyte as it delves into the Sith lore from the High Republic era.

The problem is its the adult star wars superfans who act like children because they have invested too much of their time and do weird things like review bomb the shows or harass the people behind them on social media.

do you think that graybeards are the ones out there review bombing shows because John Boyega was a black stormtrooper or Daisy Ridley was a lady? come on man.

the real superfans were the ones who read the books before they flipped over to Legends - and continue reading the books now.

people who review bomb stuff are just assholes who happen to like a show. assholes are always going to be assholes and should be called out as often as possible.

Rewatching this - it’s remarkable how much they invested into Mon Mothma’s backstory. Her terrible relationship, the stress of being early in a rebellion, risking everything. Such a wonderful detail that underpins a fantastic show.

It makes me actually want to watch the OT again.

what if obi wan was made in the same vein as andor.  bet it woulda been better.

No doubt.

I finally got around to watching Andor over the last few days.  I agree with what pretty much everyone else has said about the quality of the cast and writing.  The amount of tension built up within each episode and throughout the whole series is fantastic.

During the prison break and Maarva's funeral, even though I knew something was going to happen there was still incredible anticipation.

I followed this up with Obi-Wan and there is such a huge difference.   The actress who plays Reva is particularly bad and her back story makes no sense.  She hunts Jedi in order to get back at Vader?  Also, if Obi-Wan saves Leia's life when she's 10, how does she not know him later?  Just crap.

I don’t really care that I already know what happens to Andor. I finished a re-watch last night and it is fantastic. My only nitpick might be when they get caught in those nets when trying to steal the ship. That seemed a little weird and unnecessary. They could have had them escape the planet a little differently.

The only real question I have is: why didn’t they use some of the stolen payroll to replenish Mon’s coffers? She needed 400K, didn’t they say they stole like 800M?

Maybe they are traceable or something.

She didn’t need the money put back. She needed an excuse for why it was gone in the first place. Accountants Don’t just look at the balance they look at the transactions.

Hornian is right, it wasn’t about replenishment as much as making her money movements look like she was just a greedy politician getting her cut vs a rebel sympathizer funding terrorism.

They talk about it briefly saying his gambling ring could help her muddy her spending.

The same reason she feeds the gambling bit argument to her driver mole while talking to her husband who does have a secret gambling habit.

$400k disappearing and reappearing to unknown areas looks worse than $400k being “funneled”/washed through gangster casinos for her.

The why does she whore her daughter out?  If she can explain away the money to her husband's gambling she won't have to get the money from the gangster.

They thought the gangster would simply take a cut of her money movements as his payment.

He declined and said he wanted to marry his family into political power.

He even declines her offer of 15% of monies moved. He wanted to make the introduction of his son to Mon’s daughter, who just so happened to be heavily into the Chandrillian culture which included arranged marriages.

And she can’t JUST explain away the money to her husbands habit. It simply sent the ISB a breadcrumb so when they looked into it, it made decent sense that yeah he gambles, she’s corrupt the money movement is accounted for… and keeps them from digging more

Right, I get all of that.  But if she can just explain away the money to "gambling", then she doesn't have to whore her daughter out.  She had to replenish the money through a source that not only has the money, but the necessary access to make it seem that the money never left.

She needed another level of money laundering to separate herself from the rebellion. Her money went to the bookie, who skimmed his cut, and he then moved the rest to a nameless accounts (rebels). The Empire wouldn’t look deeper because a known gambling addict making regular payments to his known bookie isn’t suspicious. Previously she was sending money directly into rebel accounts. If the empire truly suspected her, those transactions would be easy to trace.

Finally watched Andor to see what the fuss was about, and daaaaamn, what  an incredible show.

I liked Rogue One better than Empire Strikes Back (unpopular opinion I know) because of its grittiness, acknowledgement that people live in the gray, and we all have to make painful decisions for the greater good.

The highlights of the season were obviously the jail break and the funeral in the finale. Waiting until next year til season will be agonizing but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

In the mean time I’m going to watch Rogue One with my daughter since she can’t seem to get enough Star Wars.

And Bix is hot!

If you haven't yet, you should watch Rebels with her! It's legitimately a great show and it brings much of what made the OT great

2nd the motion.

So many good arcs. Grand inquisitor, Vader, Thrawn, the clones, dark saber, Ezra and his dark side temptations, fulcrum, maul’s arc get closure after like 3 series.

Damn I really liked Rebels

So you probably liked Luthen Rael's little speech, didn't you?

Just a little.

I think we're fortunate most of us don't have to make these decisions.

Using the war in Ukraine as an example, imagine sacrificing thousands of newly drafted AFU soldiers to defend Bakhmut and stall the Russian so you can build up other forces for the counter offensive.
