The one thing that really makes me mad about this thread and people saying Quinn is holding us back and Yadayada is the fact that people are daring us to run on them and perfectly willing to take whatever rushing numbers we get if it means not letting us throw over the top on them. That is out of respect for what Sark is doing. We couldn't just line up and bully teams with numbers in the box. That is a result of effective passing. People here don't seem to understand that.

Kentucky game says maybe we can?

I don't think @Thatguy is saying anything different. He is just responding to folks calling Quinn the worst QB ever.

Ok, so actually no one is doing that. And you only have to go back 2-3 months to see talk of him being a top 5 pick and 1st QB taken in the NFL draft.  I think that sums up why this thread is a shit show and people are all over the place with their opinions on Quinn. It's an absolute roller coaster ride with him.

But as an olive branch towards @Thatguy and you other clowns (/s), I will post the roller coaster scene from Parenthood and try to have Grandma's attitude about it. For now.  Hook'em.

So you can predict a certain number of completions.  Cool.  Now as it turns out Quinn has completed 68% of his passes this season, good for #15 in the country.  Either you're not so good at predicting completions or you're lying (again).

I would expect him to have a high completion percentage with all the swing passes and other short throws with 3-5 yards of the LOS.

Explosive plays win games

We've had a real problem creating explosive scoring plays starting with Oklahoma. We've only had four TDs longer than 30 yards in the last six games -- all but one of them (Wisner's 43-yard TD run vs OU) came in the Florida blowout. Long drives are great but they're not as reliable because there's more plays that have to "work" to methodically move down the field. Hitting on just one deep ball per game makes the game much, much easier.

I think what you are seeing isn't Quinn being afraid to take shots its Quinn only taking shots when the numbers are right. Can you remember Quinn throwing deep into double coverage this year? I cannot. All those shitty deep ball misses appear to be when we get 1v1 matchups. Also, Sark was an OC in an aggressive defensive conference predicated on running the football. I don't think he ever saw a 3-3-5 flyover until he came to the Big12. I think once opponents saw how effective it was vs what he wanted to do it became the go to defensive scheme for one Steve Sarkisian.

I think one part glossed over from sark’s time at Alabama is the quality of receivers. Have we had a waddle or smith while Quinn has been qb? That team also had Najee Harris and Brian Robinson jr toting the rock to the tune of 2k yards. If we don’t lose Baxter I don’t think we are even having this type of discussion.

This isn't all that complicated. Why does Sark play so few receivers? Can we agree he trusts certain guys more than others? Has he proven to be good at that? I would say so and that has played out on the field. The QB position isn't any different. Everyone has seen that Arch doesn't have the full playbook. There are less motions and less plays. There is a reason for that.

Yeah, not making it complicated.

We are 10-1.  Sark played QB.  He’s got a 3 year starter.  I don’t think he sits on the shitter all day thinking about does Quinn or Arch give us the better chance to win.  It logically begins with Ewers is the guy in his mind.  In support of my thought that he likely believes both can win, he put in Arch in the biggest game of the year.  And let him throw.  It’s one thing to let Ewers reset.  It’s another to run the 2 minute offense rather than try to run clock with the 2nd guy.

He trusts Ewers so you don’t need to consider the trust in the 2nd option.  QB is nothing like any other position.  And it’s not like one hasn’t been the starter.

Im interested in this limited playbook/motions narrative.  Has Sark said this?  I don’t listen to press conferences/post games so have no clue.

? If you're just talking just about touchdowns, maybe. But otherwise, no. The one thing we consistently do well is create explosives. Definitions vary, but I think pass plays 20+ yards and run plays 15+ yards are commonly considered explosives.

OU -  8 explosives (including TDs of 36 and 43 yards) (61 plays)

Georgia - 3 explosives (yuck) (78 plays)

Vandy - 7 explosives (including TDs of 27 and 25 yards) (69 plays)

Florida - 12 explosives (including TDs of 29, 22, 50, 32, and 34 yards) (64 plays)

Arkansas - 4 explosives (including TD of 20) (73 plays)

Kentucky - 5 explosives (77 plays)

Also, I have us at 5 TDs over 30 yards over the last 6 games, not 4.

I think most fans believe this is how Sark wants to run his offense, but I don't think so. He's curated it to fit Quinn's strengths. Look at Mac Jones's Alabama highlights. Way more explosive offense. Next year with Arch will look a lot different.

100% this. our offense next year is going to be a completely different animal despite the talent we’re losing on the offensive side of the ball. quinn is sark’s guy so sark has been/is tailoring his offense to quinn and what he’s comfortable with, which unfortunately has led to our offense being extremely risk averse and dink and dunk-y, relying on yards after the catch. next year the offense will be much more wide open, more explosive, and more varied. i’m very much looking forward to seeing our offense next year.

That was like every non-completion in Arch’s career.  Has that ever been done here in the aggregate on anyone?  Even the hated guys who never deserved the amount of scorn they received.

I will be waiting for those posts on that I’ll-advised throw in the UF game to discuss how that was PI and should be removed.  Or like those first two throws in which there was pretty much immediate pressure.  And for a little irony go watch Quinn’s first start.  ULM wasn’t it? A little shaky start against what turned out to be the 118th worst defense per DFEI. Oh, and I think everybody liked Ewers 2nd start.

This thread is annoying yet entertaining.

I didn’t make it through, but it was obsessive to shitty. Who takes a part a kids 1st start? We all remember that shaky ULM Quinn put up and there is no reason to revisit it. Imagine if someone put the low lights of Ou, Georgia, and Arkansas together on Quinn

Because it shows the difference in the low lights, you should know this. Quinn's low lights are missing a read and dumping a pass to his check down and failing to convert a 3rd and 7, Arch's low lights is him throwing into double coverage 30 yards down field on 1st and 10 which is a cardinal sin to an OC. We're talking about Arch vs Quinn in 2024, not Arch in 2024 vs Quinn in 2022 Quinn has plenty of painful low lights but he almost never make blatantly stupid and reckless throws like we have seen Arch make.

Lulz. Quinn missed a fucking wide open Wingo on a crosser that likely results in a TD just last Saturday. Wingo was like in that 5-8 honey spot zone for Quinn. It's not just checkdowns and missed bombs, he's also missing the correct reads and wide open WRs.

Again this is his 3rd year as a starter, and he hasn't gotten better at all, the team around him, especially the defense, has improved night and day, and they are the more apparent reason for 22-3 including 4 games with the backup.

quinn ewers throws a lower percentage of these passes than any qb i’ve ever watched. it’s no coincidence that i’ve never seen a qb throw more deep balls where you don’t need the camera to pan to know that there’s no chance of it being caught. you absolutely could make an hour long lowlight reel of quinn ewers, and all you’d see is the likes of xavier worthy, ad mitchell, bijan robinson, jt sanders, gunnar helm, jonathan brooks, matt golden, etc on the wrong end of those poor throws.

That bolded part is remotely similar to Quinn being the worst Qb ever. I mean it doesn’t get much more clear cut how you feel. Do you do this stuff on purpose?

Arch makes poor passes too, those are included in the low lights but coaches concerns are about reckless decision making which Arch being far less experienced is far more susceptible too.

1st off, I can’t imagine putting together a low light film of a Texas player. Now watch someone do it for Quinn. Is that what we really want? It’s amazingly shitty. So Arch throws a 50 yard pass into double coverage is that better than not hitting an uncovered receiver, fumbling, and giving Georgia the ball on the 10? I could go on. It’s one thing to discuss a play or concepts, but I think hit pieces on Longhorn players is straight shitty. That may just be my feelings, but this is not something I want to start seeing here

Arch fumbled the ball and gave it to Georgia in Texas territory in his only drive of the game. No OC ever wants to see his QB throw a pass into double coverage that's just bad QB play, Sark wants the correct throw made. Quinn air mailing a deep pass to a wide open receiver on a busted coverage will piss off fans but Arch throwing into double coverage and getting broken up or picked is worse in the eyes of Sark and every single other OC out there.
