Didn't Tech already have one of the most expensive rosters with all the transfers they bought? So how are they able to (openly) throw all this $ around? It's not like these deals are happening under the table.

Justin Wells just posted on IT that Carlton is probably gone too. Tech overpaying again.

Wesley and Okpala (he said yesterday on the OTF livestream he prefers edge) are better than Carlton. If PK wants Jamarion, then I hope he chooses us, but as extra filthy Deadpool noted above, edge is in great shape currently.

Again, I can’t even imagine sweating the edge position at Texas right now. Let tech have Carlton too. Pump their chests.

So what about 3 years from now?

Some other school is gonna be real pissed when UT swoops in with their newfound Ojo/Carlton budget money.

I'm not gonna blame him for taking that much money.

$5.1 M, then subtract 37% Federal Income taxes and 3-10% agent fees…so, he just lost 40% or $2 M right off the top.  Still a lot of coin, but they ain’t gonna win and he’ll have to reside in Lubbock….fwiw.

Lance Jackson, Zina, Smith Orogbo, and the kid this year, plus The Portal think you need to unclip your balls from their holster and let them hang.

I bet Joey McGuire is getting a little anxious. Think about all the real football coaches they could hire if they're throwing this type of money around for recruits.

So bizarre - Tech currently has two low 4 stars in their class, all the rest 3-stars (other than Ojo).  So basically, they just threw their entire recruiting budget at Ojo.

Complacency is what brought down MBTF. That said, if Tech wants to give him rediculous money, have fun in Lubbock I guess.

Never underestimate the value of being able to say you beat out Texas for something.

They gonna stop at Ojo and Carlton? Why not send a ton over to Keisean Henderson?

Seems like McGuire saw an article about the ‘big 3’ concept in the NBA and is applying it to a 22-starter sport…

Is the complacency in the room with us right now? Do you think we just got an out of state 5 star edge by being lazy?

They are getting a bunch of picks now for a 5* OT in the 2027 class.  From Oklahoma, #10 national recruit.

I'm referring to the post about our edge room being set. I don't think the staff is complacent.

The composite has 30 5-stars right now and Turntine is ranked 36th. He's not that far off. This board spent so much time shitting on the kid for not being fatter, people forgot he was still highly ranked

I think the 6’3 listing was also a concern, as to what it might mean for his arm length.  In the absence of his actual arm length. Maybe we have they now?

and ojo being 6’6 already as a comparison.

Think about the type of player you’re getting at Tech if he’s been money whipped extravagantly to go there of all places.

He’s someone who doesn’t care that much about championships. He’s someone who doesn’t care that much or believe that he can be developed into a much better player in college.

He’s someone who isn’t thinking about how to properly position himself best for the nfl. He’s taking the short cut of just getting as much money as possible right away and then just assuming the nfl is waiting with open arms.

These are low IQ players, jumping at whatever money they can get and probably don’t have the work ethic, focus, or intelligence to really succeed and exceed.

I see the whole scenario as a way for Texas to weed out pretenders. Now losing players to LSU, OSU, etc is a different matter. But Tech? Pfffft.

5 mil guaranteed yeah you say yes to that.  Longhorns can’t agree to that without destroying the team chemistry for a guy that hasn’t taken a snap.

He’s a known guy with size.  Will be the star at tech and any team playing them will just avoid him so he’ll probably look ok.

Gonna get drafted regardless except of injury so if its guaranteed absolutely you take it.

But not a guy that truly believe iron sharpens iron.  Techs not going to develop him like an SEC schedule and teammates would.

If you listen to national CFB media they have developed a narrative about Texas becoming a title contending program by leveraging NIL to buy elite trench recruits and that’s what made Texas successful. There has been an extreme case of downplaying Sark’s staff and culture leading to players developing to their potential and instead they say Texas just loaded up via NIL. It’s pretty clear that tech and A&M are trying to copy that same narrative format without the critical coaching and culture leadership element.

When I was 22, straight out of college, I got a commission check for $9k in one pay period. When I deposited the check, I kept $3k of it in order to see what that amount of money looked like. I’d seen pots in gambling at gatherings get above $2k, but never higher. I went back to my office and put it down in front of me and counted it like 4 times with the door closed.

Getting offered $5M as a guy who just turned 17, I don’t know how you don’t take that money and never look back. I don’t think that is a low IQ move.  That part of the story isn’t something that causes judgment on my end, at least.

They’re going to play him as a true freshman. That money doesn’t sit the bench. He’s not going to get any time to develop and he’s technically terrible with no hip flexibility. He’s probably ruined his career by making the choice he’s made, so hopefully he’s careful with that $3+M that he winds up with after taxes.

If he’s Kelvin Banks 2.0, he is worth it. If he isn’t, there are a bunch of ways this deals screws up their team.

Saw someone say this on Ojo.

Crazy thing is he was 2nd team all district his junior year and didn’t start as a sophomore. He went to the rivals camp and lost 18 out of 22 reps. That’s the crazy part. He’s getting paid off frame and traits and not ability.

That’s a ridiculous amount to pay if that’s true.

See Fisher, Jimbo.

Fisher had an actual professional agent - Jimmy Sexton - who made sure Fisher's name came up for every new OC/HC/etc. for the past 15 years.  Fisher may be a shitbag, but it was always clear he was looking for more money and more responsibility.

What Ojo did was at a totally different level.  He had signed a contract before July 1 and continued to tell others he was either (1) undecided or (2) on his way to Texas.  Funny, he could have (and may have) actually told Sark that Tech was offeret 3/5.1.  Sark would have said, "That's life changing money.  You should take it."  Kinda like what he did for Dakorian Moore (iirc).

A couple of things cross my mind

  • His agent will never have a signee at Texas - much less anywhere else because of the abject dishonesty
  • I struggle to find how McGuire could have been a player in this deception.  He's a functional moron, so any planned deception came from elsewhere.
  • I am not sure why TT, their collective, etc. would do this.  They're bitter, small people with inferiority complex?  Still butt-hurt over Barnes?
  • We should protest any attempt to play them in any sport - or collaborate with anyone at TTU in any research, etc. (yes, I am petty)
  • Ojo and company should be glad they F-d with Texas and not with tOSU.  tOSU fans are not as reserved, forgiving, etc.  And - rather than throwing plastic water bottles, their fans throw glass bottles and cans (2005 comes to mind).

Ojo is 18 and that level of deceit is not common from someone that age, so he had help.  EDIT to add: CTJ said he and his family are bad news.  Perhaps this is not surprising, but it seems he'll fit in with Joey and Tech.

Rant over.

We'll be fine.

He has the requisite length to play OT in college.  Per Gerry, his wingspan is 84 in. & >10 in hand size.   However, we don’t how much wingspan will shrink if he gains 30-40 lbs :)

Second team all district, second round of the NFL draft... what difference does it make?

Oh I don’t think he’s low IQ for taking $5m. Very few can pass that up. Hell I’d have taken it too.

But, IMO players who are truly great top nfl prospects are confident and focused on getting to the league, and do everything in their power to maximize their odds of getting there. Those types of people are insanely driven and make intelligent decisions. IMO him going to Tech could mean he’s just not one of those guys. He doesn’t have the intelligence overall to be one of those special players.  No shame in that. I just think the best of the best think differently and are motivated slightly differently.
