Blake Baker might be announced as the new Tulane HC as early as tonight. I doubt it will ultimately shake anything loose with Anderson, Henderson or the rest but we will at least find out rather quickly. They seem  set to hire the Mizzou DC (kind of funny since that is where they stole Baker from) as a replacement per the rumors.

The bigger potential impact is if Baker manages to take that DL coach with him to join his Tulane staff.

edit: just worth reminding everyone that it really doesn't matter if people sign or not. That shit is basically symbolic now. We had multiple top players sign on ESD and end up elsewhere last year.

The hold Nike holds on the youths is slipping.

It really is. Adidas seems to be the more popular brand now. Adidas is signing big time athletes and Nike seems to be focused on fashion.

It should be stated the going to rehab part is unsubstantiated. And most of the of the rumors in that thread comes from a lunatic starving for attention.

It should be known that once the word "football board" came into the equation you are dealing with a sub species of of fan that lack the basic intellectual capacity to realize they aren't the most intelligent person in the room.  Which is especially hazardous when the IQ level of the average football board poster is only superior to the infernal vermin who populate the cloak room......

About half the posters in said thread could very easily be a burner for Ketch....yes that means that Ketch is more intelligent then the avg person on that board....

Overpaying for high school “potential” seems silly in the portal age.

Especially when we have 1 more year of Arch and then serious QB question marks for the next 1-2 years, at minimum. $ needs to be allocated for win-now portal guys

There's 1-2 or high school receivers who are as close to locks for stardom as you can get every year.  Henry is this years version.  If you are going to spend a ton on a wr recruit, he's the one.

Yes! We should use the process that always works!

Add that to the strategy of getting players that are good from the portal, and we have a juggernaut!

Isn't this why Ohio State develops WR's so well allegedly?  Jermiah Smith, Egbuka, Harrison (he was lower ranked but definitely had the genes from his dad), now Henry are the can't miss 1-2 prospects and they bring them in.  I am pretty sure Texas, or any school would have turned the same group of WR's into superstars since they already were superstars coming out of HS.

Yeah, they find the best wr prospect every year and then sign them.  If we signed a Collin Simmons type edge prospect every year, we would suddenly be the school for edges.

Well, we look to be fast approaching that school.  Sorrell got drafted.  Burke and Moore should this year as well.  Simmons will for certain.  The young guys are progressing nicely.  Hook ‘em! 🤘

Friday - Bobby

Quote

Friday

By Bobby Burton

I’m starting to do my overall breakdown of the 2026 recruiting class.

I’ll be releasing three each morning and each afternoon until I’m finished.

Here are the first three players.

QB Dia Bell

Known: athletic, accurate, intelligent, maneuvers well in in the pocket, good size and requisite arm strength. Seems to have an unhurried feel for the rush. Extends a lot of plays while keeping eyes downfield. Looks to pass before run. Competitive. Strong performance bloodlines at an elite level.

Unknown: He has all the physical skills except maybe plus size. The only real question is, does he have the “it” factor of an elite QB at the college level? It’s the intangible every QB must possess but no one knows for sure until they show up on campus and play in an actual game.

RB Derrek Cooper

Known: elite power on contact, elite speed, plus size, good vision, subtle skip moves in the hole. Excellent acceleration through the hole creates some separation. Extremely elite toughness on contact. Good, natural hands out of backfield. Displays big time physicality and football IQ on both offense and defense.

Unknown: as a runner, can he make people miss at the college level, does he have both patience and vision, or is he primarily a downhill, one-cut power back? If he has those traits, he’s a 10 out of 10. Otherwise, he’s a solid 8. Hard to imagine him not playing early at Texas no matter which RBs return or who Texas pursues in the portal. Too violent, physical and speedy to think otherwise.

RB Jett Walker

Known: highly productive, hard-runner, does not shy from contact. Finds a lot of extra yards with combination of vision and contact balance. Good long speed for RB combined with good short-space quickness. More make-you-miss ability than many expect.

Unknown: do his short space quickness and contact balance translate enough to the college game? Hard to tell against competition level. His upside is that of a starting RB. Downside is rotational player, third-down back long term with immediate help on special teams.

**

Jalen Lott inked with Oregon yesterday.

Still waiting on a couple to announce today while tracking exactly who else the Horns might be recruiting.

Regardless of the recruiting outcome, Texas has been prepping for the portal behind the scenes for months.

That will be the personnel focus of the next month at least.

We could see other 2027s jump on board in the interim, too, with junior days already set for month of January.

Jett Walker's tape is just 5 minutes of him running straight ahead through holes you could drive a truck through. It's not even a 1-cut running style, it's like 0-cut. He does have good size, decent straight line speed, and doesn't mind contact. I suppose he's a guy that's happy to come to Texas, play school, get 30 carries a year trucking defenders from SHSU, and be a motherfucker on special teams.

Ohio State has had 5 WRs drafted in the first round in the last 4 years, including the top player taken at the position in 2023 (smith-njigba) and 2024 (Harrison Jr). They've had 14 WRs taken in the draft since 2015. Texas has had three DEs drafted over that same period of time, none higher than Ossai in the third round. I'd love it if we could be the Ohio State of EDGE, but I'm not sure I'd characterize our progress as "fast approaching". More like, "emerging from incompetence".

He plays LB in high school too, right?  Could he be used as a situational fullback?

Is lsu actually involved, or just a hat on the table?

I want to say the latter, but LSU promised lane Kiffin a giant NIL war chest, and this would be a massive proof of concept get for them

I saw that image and thought "man, we're just a hat on the table here". Maybe we're both right? Did this dude ever even visit Texas?

Not many visits to speak of and none in season this year. The Oregon and a PSU visit in 2023 were the only in season visits for Henry

Without a flood of flipped CB picks coming in (plus Lott sticking to Oregon), the assumption is OSU here I guess?

Likely tOSU with Lott sticking at Oregon yesterday,

Agree with the consensus that we were taking a flier on Henry and now can spend our resources on a proven portal WR and/or other positions of need like IOL.
