Go Pack. So excited for him to be a Packer. Excited for Golden as well. Haven’t had a Longhorn in the Pack since Jermichael and Ced.

I'm afraid that guys like Barryn will be lost to Texas Football History by future generations.. He's one of those guys who was never a big name but to people who watched these teams will know that this guy made winning plays every game. He got better every year was a good teammate and was vital to turning Texas Football around.

I hope he stays healthy and makes 10s of millions of dollars.

Well, maybe to the average fan. But to us obsessives they're never lost. I'd like to think we have a new generation of obsessives coming through.

Sark has built a fucking Death Star here.  I’ve waited 20+ years for a coach to maximize the potential of Texas.  We’re going to get Cooper and Kirby is going to cry about how unfair NIL is.

5* QB, RB, OT, and TE incoming.  Another defensive haul with top 100 and 200 players all throughout.  Yeah, I'm drinking the Kool-aid.

Brandl was the best prof I had while getting my MBA. Dude cared about his students and was incredibly passionate about econ. Love to see this.

True. And he’ll probably find some random ref and screech in his ear about it with plenty of spittle.

I'll add that Michael Brandl himself is a great, great guy.

And if his name was Michelle Brandi, she would be a hot slut.

I see the annual May “errbody” prognostications are ramping up. I look forward to the July/August “the sky is falling” news, until we settle into a solid top 5 December recruiting haul.

Much like the aggy football rollercoaster, our recruiting cycle is ridiculously predictable.

The way it seems early on is Sark wants to go back to back number 1 classes. Maybe some of the old timers like @closetojumping can refresh us but I don’t recall us having a cycle where this much elite talent from around the country is scheduling OV’s and coming in on these types of UOV.

Any updates on Tyler Atkinson? Last I heard he was expected to give us an official, but I don't know if that ever got locked in. Maybe UGA or Clemson has lapped the field and I missed it.

I think there was a report on him this week or last. We're still in it.

Nation's No. 4 DL Vodney Cleveland has a Texas OV set with the Longhorns in his top group

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

"I would say Florida and Texas have really separated themselves."

(Per author, likely behind Florida, though ... )

Spoiler

Nation's No. 4 DL Vodney Cleveland has a Texas OV set with the Longhorns in his top group

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Birmingham (Ala.) Parker Top247 defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland is one of the Longhorns' top targets on the defensive line board.

At 6-foot-3, 305 pounds, Cleveland is currently ranked as the No. 52 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Alabama according to 247Sports.

One of the nation's most coveted trench prospects, Cleveland holds over three dozen offers but has narrowed his list down to five schools for official visits, with his schedule reading: Auburn (May 16-18), Florida (May 30-June 1), Georgia (June 6-8), Texas (June 13-15), and Miami (June 20-22).

With the spring evaluation period in full force, Cleveland has had several coaches come through Parker High School to see him, including Texas.

"Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Auburn and I know Florida will be through here before the end of this week."

The nation's No. 4 defensive lineman is focused on the little things as his recruitment inches closer to official visits.

"It's been good," Cleveland said of his spring. "I wouldn't say hectic, but it's been a blessing to have all these coaches come through here and evaluate me. And also evaluate some of my teammates and give them a look. As well as off the field it's been great, grades are A's and B's — honor roll. Staying on track with school."

What was it that got the Longhorns on his official visit list?

"Coach (Kenny) Baker and Coach (Steve) Sark(isian). Coach Baker is a real energetic guy. He knows what he's talking about with his D-linemen and he knows a lot."

The Longhorns are in the tentative top two, as the Alabama native the burnt orange when asked if any schools have begun to separate from the pack.

"I would say Florida and Texas have really separated themselves."

The Longhorns might be a bit behind the Gators as things currently stand, as Cleveland has only been able to see the Forty Acres once whereas he's been in Gainesville nearly half a dozen times.

"
Really it's everything," Cleveland said about Florida." With academics, football, Coach (Billy) Napier and Coach (Gerald) Chatman and just everything. I see the development that Coach Chatman puts into his guys. As well as Coach Napier just trying to build the team up not around the portal but more high school guys so all the guys can come up together. The route and path Florida's going on, they're looking to be a playoff and hopefully national title contender."

The Alabama native already has a few factors in mind that'll help him narrow things down to just one school come decision time.

"Really just knowing am I comfortable there with the academics, schooling, football, coaches? Just all around atmosphere and the life outside of football, what they have planned for me. Also just knowing that I'm going to get developed when I go there."

Speaking of decision time, Cleveland also has a good idea on when that'll happen as well.

"I'd probably say around June. Take all my OVs and then decide."

At 6-foot-3, 305 pounds, Cleveland is currently ranked as the No. 52 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 4 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Alabama according to 247Sports.

Auburn Undercover's Christian Clemente contributed to this report.

Jordan Scruggs then added this in the Q/A, when asked about whether Cleveland was a priotity (he is):

But I'd say out of all of the DL they've offered in 2026, these are the top five guys imo (no order)

Jaimeon Winfield
Vodney Cleveland
Valdin Sone
Kendall Guervil
James Johnson

North Crowley Top247 OL John Turntine III inching closer to a summer decision with June official visits ahead

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

KEY POINTS

Top 4, w/ OVs planned:  Michigan, Tenn, A&M, Texas

Texas OV:  June 20th (last OV, I believe), week after Ojo, same week as Dia Bell

Decision timeline:  Will know after visits (June /July, 4th of July ...)

Great comments re: Texas/Coaches:  "Their o-line is dominant. They had a lot of draft picks this year, Kelvin Banks was a top ten pick. Their coaches, coach (Kyle) Flood is a cool dude and they get after it but he's still a relaxed coach. Coach (Steve) Sark(isian), he's made it known that I'm a priority to him. And really just the relationships, it's just a cool relationship with them." Lulz, re: Tennessee :-))

Most important comment ... for this board 🙄  🙄  🙄  : "I'm working on gaining weight, I lost some weight this season. ..."

North Crowley Top247 OL John Turntine III inching closer to a summer decision with June official visits ahead

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

North Crowley Top247 offensive lineman John Turntine III is one of the Longhorns' top targets at the position in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

At 6-foot-3.5, 275 pounds, Turntine is currently ranked as the No. 35 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

After helping make history as the cornerstone left tackle for a North Crowley team that won its first state title in over two decades, Turntine is focused on getting back to Arlington in December.

"We got over that hump, got the job done last year, but this is a whole new team," said Turntine III of the mindset this spring. "Really just we got to keep working, getting 1% better each day, keep sharpening the blade. We have good players, good talent, but we still need to be disciplined. If we're trying to get back to where we were last year because it's going to take a lot to play 16 weeks again."

The 6-foot-3.5, 275 pounder has a few things he's focused in on this offseason.

"I'm working on gaining weight, I lost some weight this season. Getting faster, stronger, getting better at run blocking and the point of attack. Attacking faster and getting more powerful, really just trying to get better and keep stacking days on days."

Turntine will roll right into official visits following the conclusion of North Crowley's spring ball program, with four trips scheduled on four consecutive weekends starting with Michigan the May 30-June 1 weekend.

"I set my OVs up. I'm going to Texas, A&M, Michigan, Tennessee. So far, those are the four I got planned, and those are the four I've been communicating with the most," said Turntine. "It's going to probably come down to one of them, honestly. Then whenever I go on my visits and stuff, just make sure I'm confident and committed to my decision."

The 6-foot-3.5, 275 pounder then broke down why each school is receiving an official visit:

Texas: "Their o-line is dominant. And really just the relationships, it's just a cool relationship with them."

Texas A&M: "I really like coach (Adam) Cushing's coaching style. The way he talks to the players, I could relate to it."

Michigan: "Winning. I don't like to lose, I love to win, really love to win, committed to winning. So they win a lot and have been a winning program. They didn't have a good year this year but they're gonna get back to where they were with their new quarterback. And their coaches too."

Tennessee: "Of course the coaching, and then the state of Tennessee is really beautiful. They got mountains and lakes and stuff and it'd be cool to be out there if I went to school out there."

With it being the middle of the spring evaluation period, Turntine has seen several coaches at his school over the last few weeks.

"A&M, Texas, Tennessee. All of them were here [last] week," said Turntine. "It meant a lot for them to come by and see me practice and see us get after it."

Turntine is working towards a summer decision timeline.

"During June - July, during that time, fourth of July weekend, I'll probably have a known decision after my visits and stuff."

Instead of having several factors that'll help him narrow it down to just one school, Turntine has one big factor — comfort.

"The big factor, just one thing, making sure I'm comfortable," said Turntine III. "This process is going to be a lot on me mentally and physically, so making sure I can go somewhere and be comfortable and be able to put in work and not stressing myself out too much but still being able to take the pressure the coaches apply and still be able to work hard."

At 6-foot-3.5, 275 pounds, Turntine is currently ranked as the No. 35 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 3 interior offensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
