Jeff Bezos has hired an investment firm to examine the possibility of a bid on the Commanders, according to a report by The Washington Post.

The paper reported that Bezos hired the boutique investment firm of Allen & Company, the same company that conducted the sale of both the Denver Broncos last year and the Carolina Panthers in 2018.

Bezos, who owns the Post, has not yet submitted a bid for the Commanders, but this latest move signals a higher degree of interest in possibly making one. Others involved in the process have anticipated him getting involved at some point. Because of his net worth of $119 billion -- making him the world's third-richest person, according to Forbes -- Bezos could outbid any of the other groups.

The only known bidder to date is Josh Harris, who toured Washington's facility last month, according to multiple sources. Harris, who grew up in the Washington area, owns the Philadelphia 76ers as well as the New Jersey Devils and is a limited partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At least one other group, and possibly two, has toured the Commanders' facilities.

In November, owner Dan Snyder and his wife, Tanya, announced that they had hired Bank of America Securities about possible transactions involving the team. They have not said whether that means selling all or part of the team. Multiple sources have said they anticipate a full sale of the franchise.

Washington no longer being a laughingstock is bad news for the Cowboys.

Washington will always be a laughingstock. It will take a lot of time to undo the losing culture they have had for over 3 decades. They were terrible for the years leading up to Snyder buying the team, too.

Washington and Detroit are the 2 teams who out suck the Cowboys the last 3 decades. Still the only 3 teams who haven't been to the NFC title game since 1995.

Dallas doesn’t have the level of suck as most seasons are above 500 and total ineptness in the playoffs. More frustrating than a general overall suckritude like the Redskins.

That stadium is worse than what most hbcus play in. Bezos could change that shitty name. Maybe the PrimeSkins. Bookworms. BezosBozos.

Dumbasses building an open stadium. Won’t ever have a Super Bowl. Not that they ever would. The NFL needs more lodging than the Travel Host on the Highway and the Howard Johnson downtown. It’s such a depressing shitty rust belt factory town. They should have moved to Vegas before the Raiduhs.

I love that the Bills are keeping an open air stadium. I wish all the northern teams would do this. It’s criminal that the Vikings and Lions don’t play outside. It’s a huge advantage in home playoff games. Who cares if they don’t get one Super Bowl every 20-25 years.

Spending that kind of money for 9 games a year isn’t good business for the tax payers. AT&T has some kind of event practically every day. Lucas Oil Stadium anchors the convention business of downtown Indy.

The NFLPA surveyed all the players and gave report cards for every team, to assist free agents on potential places to play.  There were 8 categories, ranging from support for family members, travel, strength staff and facilities.

The Vikings topped the report card as the highest ranked team.

One of our core jobs as a union is to improve the overall working conditions for our players, which includes the daily experience of players at the team facilities away from the lights and cameras.

1,300 of our players provided information to share with one another about their current club, to not only help them make important career decisions, but also help raise standards across the league.

Our goals were to highlight positive clubs, identify areas that could use improvement, and highlight best practices and standards. To learn more about the background of this initiative, read a note from President JC Tretter here.

Edit: Here's an article on this by some SF blogger.  The Jaguars with rats in their facility this past season is fucking ridiculous.

Spoiler

The NFL Players Association released fascinating report cards for all 32 teams Wednesday. Intended to aid players' decisions ahead of free agency, all 32 NFL teams were graded based on responses from players on those respective teams. The conditions were judged on eight categories: treatment of families, food service/nutrition, weight room, strength coaches, training room, training staff, locker room and team travel.

Overall, the 49ers ranked seventh in the league. And only one thing stopped them from being higher: small tubs.

The report noted that the Niners' anonymous respondents were "positive in all but one section: the training room, a crucial area for players to rehab and recover." Specifically, the amount of room available for players both in the training room and in the areas where they submerge themselves.

"The tubs and rehab pool are viewed as small and there are a lack of tables and space in the training room itself," the report reads.

Players expressed confidence that owner Jed York was willing to spend on upgrades, another category where the 49ers ranked in the top 10. According to the report card, "There is a belief that investment will be made to ensure these areas are upgraded to meet the high standards set by the rest of the facilities."

Though the team has been ravaged by injuries in recent years, the players didn't rip the staff's handling of them. The training staff graded out at A-minus.

The complaints were a bit stronger in the rest of the NFC West. The Cardinals, ranked 31st overall, have "the worst-ranked weight room, which some players feel is a safety hazard; an outdated training room and locker room; and a policy of deducting dinner from players’ paychecks should players want to get food from the facility."

The Rams, ranked 25th, decried their lackluster "temporary" practice facility but gave high praise to coach Sean McVay and owner Stan Kroenke. The Seahawks, ranked 11th, were mostly positive except for their travel arrangements, where they're "one of only seven teams that do not offer players first class flights — the only exception being after road victories."

While the Cardinals and Commanders filled the bottom two slots overall, the most eye-opening anecdote came from Jacksonville.

"When asked what the number one thing they want changed at their facility, the answer was unanimous – get rid of the rats!" the report read. "Players reported that for 3-4 weeks this season, there was a rat infestation in the locker room and laundry hampers."

Tiny tubs don't seem so bad by comparison.

Cowboys came out very well and had the only A+ for family support. They got a C- for travel which could really only be the planes chartered. Teams all stay in the same hotels and Cowboys eat good everywhere. They don’t have to share rooms on the road but they’re not getting first class seats. Jerrah ought to buy a 787 with lay flat pods like in business first on Cathay Pacific or Emirates for players and coaches.

The NFLPA article is an interesting read. I have a good buddy that is an agent, so I have a number of NFL clients and have been to and toured several stadiums. We went to Jax two years ago to see a client play and I can confirm that place is a shithole top to bottom. Training rooms, meeting rooms, the family area, etc were all on par with low end colleges. It was amazing where you meet up with the guys after the games. It was tiny so most of the families over flowed to a roped off outside area where fans were walking by.

Derek Carr signing with the Saints.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has agreed to a four-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, two people familiar with the agreement said Monday.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the agreement with the veteran free-agent QB had not been announced.

Carr played nine seasons for the Raiders and holds club records for yards passing (35,222) and touchdown passes (217). But after struggling late last season, Carr was benched with two games remaining.

Carr, who turns 32 on March 28, was released by Las Vegas on Feb. 14 after he declined to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. Las Vegas needed to trade or release him by that date or $40.4 million of his contract over the next two years would have become fully guaranteed.

The knock on Carr was that his tenure as the Raiders’ starting QB produced just two playoff appearances and no postseason victories. Now Carr will have an opportunity in New Orleans to demonstrate that he can get better results with a different organization.
