So trump's in trouble, right? His polling numbers are gonna tank? Nah, he said he doesn't know anything about it. Hunky Dory.

We already have one Brisket.  If you're going to just shit all over any decent news, it's not worth engaging.  Jump off the ledge already.

God damn, Democrats are such fucking babies.  All the time.  Big dooming babies.  If it was reported Trump had a heart attack, 70% of you would spin this as good news for Trump.

Dems don't need to lie about Biden. The message is simple. Yeah he's old, but he's still fit for office. See his incredible fucking record on the economy that keeps looking better and better. And he's a stubborn old bastard who will keep serving until he can't anymore, and if that happens during his second term he'll hand over the reins to Harris as things are meant to work.

Trump on the other hand is a certified pedophile (cue up Not Like Us here) who had a lackluster economic record even before covid, whose bungling of covid got a million extra Americans killed, and he stole nuclear secrets that he probably tried to sell to foreigners. All of that is fucking true and easily substantiated.  And he's a fucking lunatic who wants to be a dictator, who will ban abortion nationwide, and who will use project 2025 to try to remake America into a theocracy like Iran or Afghanistan with different window dressing.

I'm not the one who retitled this thread the "Doom" thread because of a bad debate. I'm also not an elected democrat going on social media undermining my party's incumbent candidate. The chicken littles are the babies. Also, am I wrong? Has trump lost any support in the polls with this new wave of Project 2025 information?

This is a good point. Does the American public still care about optics or how things look? Or are they all-in on "silencing the doubters" and "all he does is win" and "nobody is gonna tell me what to do" attitudes? I legitimately do not know.

Some people seem to think that democrats should really really really care about the optics of the president looking and sounding old, but the optics of trashing your own candidate, looking disorganized, and having in-fighting aren't very good either in my opinion.

All things that could have proved useful to bring up in a debate. Alas...

This news conference tonight is being talked about like some kind of huge challenge Biden will need to tackle in order to silence the doubters. A news conference. Answering some questions. "Can he do it?? Will he be able to finish all of his sentences??"

The debate is over. Move forward. A fucking debate isn't the only forum these things can be said in.

I think I've made it pretty fucking clear over the past several years here that I wish we had better candidates and better messaging from Dems. But this is what we've got to work with now and Biden can absolutely still win if the Democratic party will stop shooting its own dick off.

Who is the Tom Hagen of the Democratic Party that can go have a conversation with Joe “Frankie Five Angels” Biden about they did things in the Roman times and how they’ll take care of his family when he steps down?

Support Harris. Threaten everyone who steps out of line I guess. It is hard for me to fathom that there was no backup plan for defeating Trump. It’s like watching a team prepare a few weeks for a Title game and right before it starts forfeit (aggy)

It's not so much as "voting for Harris" as it is "voting against trump" for me. Not voting IS an effective vote for trump, and we CAN NOT take another four years of that child rapist in charge.

Is this true? I know the lefty media is having a meltdown, but is this really the number one issue out in the hinterlands?

A lot of people are convinced this isn't true and that's now what the main question going into his NATO unscripted "big boy" press conference was. Instead of being able to go do a 10 minute presses every day because it's clearly beneath him and he's a very busy president we settle for an appearance weeks removed from one of the worst brain mush things we've ever seen.

Yeah Joe Biden needs to have the best day since he turned 80 to convince us he's got any kind of juice left.

Changing courses now would 100% guarantee a Trump victory.  Sticking with Biden probably improves that to 65% or so.  Don't be stupid and change.  It's a horrible strategy.

As others have said, hype the economy, trash Project 2025, hammer on 34 convictions + civil trial losses + Roe V Wade.  In short, act like people with spines.

Project 2025 gives so much fucking ammo. They want to ban football on Sundays! All Biden needs to be able to do is read from a teleprompter and he's made it pretty obvious he can still do that.

I think bc all of his predecessors at this point in their presidencies have had double the number of pressers (modern era.) Last night flipping around channels one strategist I saw  cautioned not to set the bar too high for this. All indications are Biden is continuing to fight on. The wait and see more shitshow crowd is getting to see more of him ensuring every single appearance is ranked and rated against the debate. Keep showing us they keep saying!

For those who want him gone they need to speak as plainly as Fetterman has been when advocating on Biden’s behalf or they need to shut the fuck up. Don’t  speak at all. This wait and see more crowd speaking word salad can get bent. Either get behind him or get behind one replacement candidate.

Credibility means nothing anymore, zero, especially to people who are supposedly still on the fence in this election. Also, there is no democrat, not a single one, who can "annihilate" trump. Half this country is set that fascism and Project 2025 is a great idea. Or are paying so little attention they don't know the fucking difference and will default to whatever lies and misinformation Putin puts on social media in October.

It is more that 1/3 are set on fascism, the remaining republicans are on auto-pilot or have been programmed to deny reality via their propaganda networks.

It's funny, because our percentages are fairly similar but I have the scenarios reversed.

This isn't a scandal that gets better with time.  It's just who he is.  Every single time he opens his mouth or takes a step is a new opportunity for "Biden is old!" to be hammered into the heads of anyone remotely paying attention.   I think removing far and away the single biggest target on your back is a smart strategy.  Sure, the right will find new attack angles but there will be a limited amount of time for those to take hold.

That being said, this slow drip-drip-drip march to the guillotine is absolutely the worst way to go about it, and any chance of success will require Biden to get behind the change, which it is increasingly becoming evident will not happen.  So, in short, doomed.

But the valid counterpoint is that Trump is old, and has suffered all kinds of mental lapses and verbal mishmash.  It's not really a distinguishing factor between the two.  While I wouldn't bring up age w/o provocation, at least fight fire with fire.

That's been tried and it won't stick. Trump seems vibrant compared to Joe. That's just the way it is.

In reality that may be true, but it isn't close to being true in the public's opinion which is what matters in a popularity contest.

Not true.  He seemed more vibrant in the debate, but other than that, it's a horse race.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the primary party messenger be the President of the United States? Like it or not, it's one of the President's primary jobs to be a salesman and sell his accomplishments and the positive direction the country is headed in.

Biden has real accomplishments and policy successes. Biden has a ton of ammo to he could unleash against the cruel and inept Trump GOP. But he sucks at that part of his job, even before the debate. Most of us just don't have faith anymore that he's capable of getting things back on message, where the should be. Every time he speaks, it's going to be rough.

How. Trump. Behaves. Doesn't. Matter.

I cannot believe people are still "but Trump!"-ing. His voters and undecideds don't care. 34 felony convictions didn't move the needle. Enough with what "should be". That time has passed.

Trump is still Trump in the eyes of all voters. Biden has changed. Adapt or die.

I really wish if the people who want him gone would ALL come together in one moment and do this swiftly. As many of us have mentioned this slow drip, drip, drip, and  this newly mouthed word salad that continues to happen from those on the Hill is weak and pathetic and quite frankly pussy.

Either finish come together in one voice and finish off his chances for a run OR get behind Kamala.

It’s not that hard for me. At all. I don’t think he can run 4 more years. And I’m not sure he can run at this pace for the next few months.  But as many have said it is about the party and voting against Trump. This slow taking potshots at him on a daily basis is sad. It is devoid of courage. Either have the courage to tell him to go or have the courage to fight for him to stay. This middle of the road show us more is bullshit.

This is heartbreaking to watch for many of us.

The middle of the road afraid to speak their mindset is the equivalent of the below:

Anytime Biden goes off script from the teleprompter it's usually bad.

Those that think Trump is either evil or at best an idiot is already baked in for the most part. Biden needs to drive people out to the polls. At some point he needs to demonstrate he can think quickly on his feet and inspire people.

We'll see how the big boy presser goes.

I find this to be a hilariously off-point take.  His voters don't matter.  Undecideds are that -- undecided.  I mean, it's the fucking name.  Democrat turnout needs to be epic.  That's the only chance.

You think Gavin Newsome could somehow take over the ticket and win?  That's a monumentally stupid idea, as would be anyone else.

I didn't want him to be the nominee in 2020 because I thought he was too old and shitty at political messaging then, but it's a little fucking late for the entire party to just suddenly realize that now.

Trump is old and deranged, but looks like a spring chicken next to Biden.

Put Kamala in and if Trump debates her, people's eyes will finally open regarding Trump's lack of competency and old senile bullshit. We need contrast, not a continued choice between two dinosaurs.

What Biden locks jump ship if there's a different nominee? Biden "loyalists" are just people who hate Trump at this point. No one's going to be butt hurt that they don't get to vote for an 82 year old anymore.

Undecideds, in a substantial number, want ANYONE (that can cobble together multiple coherent sentences) besides these two options from a major party. They want a way out.

Using Hillary is a terrible example. She is/was hated by many and a long time political insider that people were tired of. I held by nose when voting for her.

And I'm not saying Kamala would destroy Trump in a debate. But the simple contrast in appearance and cognitive ability would be striking.
