Y’all should go spend time with our newest nationalized citizens and see what they are told about their obligations as a new American citizen and keeping themselves informed on issues when they go to vote.

Bro, for the 3rd time, I'll always be informed.  You can put away your Jump to Conclusions mat.

The Puerto Rico thing is double nice because it both offends huge swaths of voters and causes Trump to back down, which offends the rest of his voters.

They don’t back down enough to not vote for him though.

Preach.  I'd love to stop being so involved with politics.  I thought we cleared that hurdle in 2020 but here we are again...

After the last 8 years, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to disengage again.  Not meaningfully. The consequences are too terrifying.

Spoklahoma.

Spokane is actually a pleasant enough purply-blue city with some excellent golf courses that always seems on the cusp of boom or collapse, and never does either. I have a lot of family history there; g-g-grandparents moved there 125 years ago with their little girl, who grew up and married there and had my grandmother (all three houses they lived in are still there). They all eventually moved to Seattle, though. /csb

The drive from Montana to Spoke isn't bad; it's pretty much through the Rockies the whole way, albeit not the super-scenic parts. It's the drive west from Spokane to Ellensburg that seriously sucks for this part of the country.

It's pretty bad in a blizzard, let me tell you...

I did think Spokane was pretty cool with some of the old architecture from turn of the previous central. Could do without all the meth though.

I don't mean fully disengage, I mean don't really pay attention until it's election time, like things used to be.  I'll always be an informed voter and I'll always vote.

I knew what you meant man. Just speaking for myself. I’m not sure I’ll be able to turn off CR bird dogging fascism.

Honestly, until Trump is in prison or dead, I probably won't be able to, either. I'll want to, though.

All things considering, pretty ballsy of him. Telling shitty jokes that, if Trump loses, make him an enemy of some of the dumbest, angriest people on the planet.

Or, he's also an idiot with zero foresight.

That's the 3rd different explanation I've heard of the joke. The first two were all the trash they couldn't deal with because the hurricane created so much. I forget what the second was. But I believe neither explanation/excuse.

Am I supposed to believe a comedian who doesn't know Puerto Rico is the USA not only knows about the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" but is going to make a joke about it, in front of a bunch of magtards when the rest of his act is cunt and cock and brown people?

Can’t hold back anymore. If you never want to talk to me again I understand. This man is the most horrible person since Hitler and this video shows it. His EXACT words translated to German.  Those who forget history are doomed to repeating it. I struggled to decide to send this. However I could not in all honesty hold back. It is bigger than me. I haven’t even voted since 2002. I did not care. I care now. I voted for people who didn’t try to over throw democracy.

So I nearly pissed myself laughing at Peter Navaro lecturing someone about a bad public performance on TV.  This is the fucking guy that went on national television to outline his criminal scheme.  Holy shit, you can't make this stuff up.

@Js1 regular shit had me busy today, looking into Clarke County now.

He's just the gift that keeps on giving. He could just say it was a racist joke and we do not feel this way about Puerto Rico. Instead, he's JD Vance. And again, this from the people who have grievance after grievance and get offended about everything.

For the record, I don't think the joke will have a meaningful impact. But if Trump loses that guy is going to have to keep a low profile for a while because some very emotional people who don't think things through are going to be coming for his head.

Yep.  I’ll still stay engaged enough to be an informed voter.  But I won’t be paying attention to polls, spending hours everyday poring over predictions and scenarios, and thinking that if things don’t go my way the whole fucking world is gonna end.

I agree in terms of direct impact.

What I love is that this entire event more or less got overshadowed by the joke. Kamala gets a day's worth of ammo for cutting ads, and instead of a coherent closing argument making its way to normies who watch nightly news, Hinchcliff became the story.

Yup.

Same as you fellas; but I'd sure like to disengage.

Was talking to a buddy the other day. "I don't make enough for politics to affect me"

Sighed and pivoted to other topics as I know this dude is a hard headed mofo, throughly mostly progressive.

You'd think the recent wars, covid, and Abortion bans would maybe bring politics home more for some.  Mind bottling.

I think when this is all said and done, the mainstream media will have a lot to answer for.

NYT is finally sounding the alarm 9 yrs too late.

Clarke County GA update per @Js1 request, as of yesterday

22k have voted early - a 25% total compared to 2020, lagging considerably behind most of the state

17k have EV voted that did in 2020, which represents 76.5% of those that did in 2020, not a statistical outlier, in line with general average

4.1k have voted that were non voters in 2020, of that group 3.6k are in the 18-29 demographic

1k of day of voters have also voted

A couple of quick conclusions:

1.  Smaller Counties, like Clarke, with only 86k of voters in 2020 tend to have more day of voting because no one expects the line to be a serious problem.  Given the returns and percentage of 2020 voters and that ev'd this seems to be holding.

2.  Students have begun to vote at an accelerated vote, from 1k this time last week to 4k.  Good, but considering that there are 50k of students, I'd sure like to it see closer to 10k by the end of the week.  As far as I'm concerned, this is a bit disappointing.

What the "comedian" says it's about

Brilliant joke, sir. Hey y'all with zero context here's a joke about an island that's 2000 miles away and their 6 year old problem with -- checks notes -- landfill capacity.

The kid played in Spokane last year. Cool little town. Made the drive over from Seattle. Once you break through the Cascades it gets pretty Saskatchewan pretty quick. We watch the Zags play a spring game. Walked both campuses. A lot of zombies walking around. One tried to sell us an air compressor.

The loss in prestige is greater than the lost revenue.

Bezos knew WaPo was a terrible financial decision. It was a vanity play to show he could put is money towards a good cause, real journalism.

Now he found his morals in conflict with business interests, and he chose to protect his business interests. WaPo is screwed as long as he owns it.
