Oh what the fuck ever. Vandy is better than multiple teams that Miami has almost lost to.

Fucking aggy is better than Miami.

We moved back to 1st in FPI after yesterday's games. We're 4th in Sagarin.

Y'all need to get out of your feelings. We played like shit and beat a team on the road that beat the team that beat the team that we lost to.

The Canes beat Lousiville by the same margin that SMU did and beat FSU by less than SMU did. They haven't had an impressive result all season.

Agreed. Unfortunately, mounting losses tend to knock one down in the polls, but also think Vandy's ranking is due to their historical reputation. I.E., they probably should have been ranked better than 25 when we played them.

Obviously the people bitching about falling 1 spot in the polls. And obviously if the offense plays like it has the past 3 weeks there isn’t a playoff.

Meh. No one is playing very consistent football right now outside of Orgeon. We had a lull last season before blowing Tech and okie lite's doors off.

I don't love where Quinn is at right now but our D is better than last year and have shown up every single week. They give us a high floor.

And Oregon wasn't playing consistent football at all to start the year.   There really isn't a dominant team this year.  It's all about who can survive and make the tournament and then play your best ball at the right time.

I think Oregon and Georgia stand out as the best teams in the country, but not by a whole lot.

I tend to agree.  But Oregon looked pretty pedestrian first 2 weeks of the season as did UGA back to back against Kentucky and Bama.    There have been about 5 or 6 teams look like the best team at a point in time and each has had a week or 2 where they kind of stunk it up.  Going to make for a great playoff.

I don't understand so much of the rankings.  Vandy beat #14, and would be favored or pick-em against 15-25.   Feels like they should still be ranked.

Don't lose to a 2-5 Georgia State team maybe

Nonsense.

SMU would commit no more than 4 turnovers against them and make it a coin flip at the end of regulation.

Completely agree.  Instead, do something like beat the then #1 team that in turn beat the current #2 team.  Also, don’t stop there, keep going like taking the #6 team to the brink.  Those are just examples of what Vandy should have done.  Oh wait …

This has us losing to Georgia in the SEC title game and then facing them a 3rd time (possibly) in the bowl #oof

Not a fan of teams playing 3 times unless the 3rd time is in the CFP Championship...

I won't be surprised to see conference championship games being eliminated soon...

Doubt that happens. A lot of money tied up in them.

Not to mention being an automatic entry into the playoffs.

The automatic bids go to the top 5 conference champions. The conferences decide how they crown their champions. Doesn't necessarily have to involve a CCG.

And conference championship game money is money they don't have to share with other conferences or G5.

I wasn't arguing that point. I was merely contradicting the suggestion that the CCGs were necessary for the playoff autobids.

They lost and dropped from #25 to #26.  Doesn't seem like a big deal.

Yeah #5 seed is ending up looking like the spot to get. It’s been that way since the announcement.

#2 and #6 are better, the way the playoffs are structured #5 will always be a juggernaut but they play the top juggernaut early.

Meant Aggy 2 loss with LSU taking the rematch in Atlanta. The rest is accurate you can take it to Vegas if you're into that. I tried to edit my mistake but got sent to a page saying that thread no longer exists which is weird because I do feel like I made that post on a different thread

I know they aren't a "blue blood" and have a week OOC but how is the only other undefeated P5 team in Indiana not in the top 10 and less likely, by the current data/polls, to make the playoffs than Army, Boise State, aggie, Notre Dame and hell.. Miami (who I think most agree is a ref supported paper tiger).

It's just weird, because they've won all their games in strong fashion, don't have an OOC worse than Miami and I don't have a loss to NIU.

I know they are a perennial barely ran but.. it's perplexing and shows the system is still broken and a lot of people voting aren't watching all the games.

We're going to hear the same bullshit that we do with the NCAA tournament every year. There's absolutely no way that it's going to be chalk all the way to the finals. My guess is two of the top four don't make it. CFB is just too wild with such a degree of variance that any of these top 12 teams could win on a given day.

I never suggested the ccg was the ONLY way for auto-bids.

But 2 teams going head to head for it is certainly more “exciting” than no ccg.

And, as the obvious has been pointed out multiple times, conferences like money.

Yeah, I'd much rather who makes a playoff and their seeding in said playoff be determined by on field head to head rather than Kirk fuckhead Boles and similar idiots. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't. I mean, I guess we could skip the entire regular season, see what the poll voters think and start the season with playoffs in December.

It's the wrong thread but I think ultimately that's what we will get once all the realignment stuff is done. See the BIG/SEC partnership and OOC scheduling that is being worked on.

Agreed. End game will not have polls factored in. Good.

Here’s your path, can you make it happen. Period.

I agree it's going that way eventually. It will take probably 4-5 years for the dust to settle but the polls will slowly factor out. At least that's what I'm reading in the tea leaves.

/thread off tracking

I'm waiting for the day the conferences expand their conference football playoffs. They already run conference tournaments before March Madness and the College World Series.

They wouldn't do that. BIG/SEC are already pushing for 4 guaranteed spots in the CFP. The 12 team format is only for the next two years. I'd bet it expands to 16 beyond that with BIG/SEC getting 8 combined guaranteed spots + potential for at larges.
