God forbid I provide a bit of level headed sanity to this super productive and super logical pointless teeth grinding. Please, don't let me interrupt. Continue. I'm sure you'll discover the cure for cancer and solve for world piece.

If my aunt had testicle, she'd be my uncle.

jeez man. It is the internet, nothing about it is productive since probably 2001.  If you want to end the thread by saying WE DON"T CONTROL ANYTHING ON SURLY, JUS LET IT PLAY OUT!! then maybe the internet isn't for you.

Yeah, thanks for the tip. You're right. God bless you and your infinite wisdom.

I will endeavor in the future to fully embrace all aspects of internet dumb fuckery, particularly on Surly and stay in my lane as is it pertains to any and all thought that aren't in line with other.

The playoffs begin this Saturday at 2:30.

apparently according to the media, they began about 10:30PM on Oct 19th.  we are in the 4th round.

The only plus that a 10-2 Texas has is they will have wins over the teams that took down Tenn, Ole Miss and Bama.

It may not be enough due to lack of top 25 wins unless Florida/Vanderbilt get some late season upsets, but we didn’t lose to Arky, Kentucky or Vandy

You jest but I Personally feel like this is legit point.

We beat all the teams that took down top teams and only lost to some top teams.

Meanwhile most of the top teams each lost to trash. We didn't lose to trash.

Didn't Indiana also cancel an OOC game against Louisville to stack wins (in their defense, probably hoping for a bowl and not the playoff when the AD made the call).  Indiana's schedule is group of 5 worthy outside of this one game Saturday.  Period.  If they get smoked by 3 TD's, they should take the same nosedive BYU did and frankly behind BYU if BYU wins Saturday.  Because BYU would have 3 or 4 better wins than Indiana.

If Indiana gets blasted by osu on Saturday they should absolutely, and likely will, drop like a stone and unless there are some upsets. A bad loss probably puts them just outside needing an upset or two to get in. They’d need Texas to beat aggy and then another sec team to get a 3rd loss.

The should also be punished for that non conference schedule, just like ole miss should be for theirs. But at least ole miss played wake. With a loss to osu, they’d probably find themselves wishing they hadn’t can the game with Louisville looking for something to call a quality win.

This is so fucking stupid and is exactly the nonsense that I was talking about upthread when I said that for some people the lack of a clear cut top tier in the sec equate to everyone being awesome. @TrashMaster G

This equates to nothing more than “I think uga and bama are awesome so their losses don’t mean anything.” And not only does uga losing twice not mean anything, but ole miss and tenn must also be awesome since they beat uga and bama. And we’re again supposed to just ignore losses to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Arkansas. He went so far as to call out LSU as a good win. LSU fucking sucks. Southern cal beat LSU week 1 and absolutely no one will try to claim them as a quality win for psu or nd.

Do I think Indiana would be favored against bama? No, but they’ve smoked everyone they’ve played, didnt play Mercer in November, and they also didn’t lose two games including fucking Vanderbilt.

The bad losses have to mean something but to the sec slobbers it either gets flat out ignored or “actually Vanderbilt, arky, and uk are all really good teams despite what their records say.”

I agree, losses should matter.

I think it’s ridiculous that committee has Bama and Ole Miss ahead of Georgia.

Georgia has two quality wins (Texas and Tennessee) and no bad losses only two quality losses (Bama/Ole Miss)

Bama has one quality win (UGA) and one bad loss (Vandy) and one quality loss (Tenn)

Ole Miss has one quality win (UGA) and two bad losses (LSU/Kentucky)

You're putting a lot of words in people's mouths and I'm not sure you've done much of a deep dive on some of the scheduling stuff. In fact, you're pretty much awarding Indiana a high ranking BECAUSE they're schedule is dogshit.

What do you think IU is sitting at if they had already played Clemson, Bama, Texas, Tenn, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Florida?

Penn State has lost to the one good team they've played. Ohio State is 1-1 against quality opponents. Indiana hasn't played ANYBODY.

Some of the B10 scheduling is a joke this year with those teams. Sure - so is the SEC Nov FCS shit - but outside of Texas all of the 2 loss SEC teams have had a much tougher slate than any B10 team in the top 10. Let alone fucking Miami who the CFP has 8.

Are you going to sit here and with a straight face tell us that Indiana is still better than all of the 2 loss SEC teams if they lose to Ohio State?

I'm not sobbing over the SEC. I'm looking at this objectively - like an adult - and seeing where a lot of these teams sit in the most predictive metrics and concluding that this set of rankings sucks.

Jesus Christ on crutches, we aren't losing to those sheep fucking weirdo aggys. Good lord.

They have, again, a shit QB, no offensive identity, no RB, no WRs worth a shit, no TE, and an average defense.

Quinn with a puss, er I mean abdominal strain could beat them. We are literally better in every aspect. I don't give a shit if it's at night in that bat shit covered stadium, we aren't losing. None of those morons on that team know what it's like to play us. It's just another game for us to beat them in. They can hype themselves up all they want, but remember, they barely put up 38 points against NMSU, and it was 7-3 in the 3rd qrt.

Man, y'all gotta stop worrying. You're starting to sound like Bobby and Gerry against Michigan, ou, Vandy, and Arky. Just trembling that an upset can happen. No shit it could. Will it? Fucking mo.

Neither you, nor that asshat in the video that you said you couldn’t disagree with was talking about Indiana after a loss to Ohio state. This set of rankings is looking at where Indiana is right now. And where a bunch of 2 loss sec teams with bad losses are right now. And they are rightfully below Indiana.

Indiana’s schedule is all in front of them. If they beat osu on Saturday they’ll be playing Oregon for the 1 seed. If they lose close to osu they’ll probably have to go play a 1st round game in Athens or Tuscaloosa. If they lose bad, they probably need an upset to get in at all.

Even your guy in the video says how he normally has the stance of losses matter but… and then goes on to say that because he thinks the 2 loss sec teams are good and Indiana and Penn state aren’t, that the losses don’t matter. And that’s just fucking stupid.

I hope Indiana makes it in. I’d love to see them somehow end up hosting one of the 2 loss sec teams. Bama, ole miss, and tenn have all shown that they are capable of losing to teams that are worse than Washington or Michigan. And while IU doesn’t have a win like any of those teams, they don’t have a loss, let alone 2 losses.

Wait. Was there a sign up? Did I need to stand in line somewhere?  Because this was not happening in my household, and even if it was I’m not sure why it would have caused the football team to lose.

People were trying to say they’d be favored after LSU. Laughable. I think we get 7 at least

Early line opened at UT -4.5. We’ll see how it moves after Saturday. I’d guess it’ll end up around 5.5 or 6 unless A&M loses.

These people are so fucking scared that we are going to ruin college football and I am here for it.  We are going to ruin it cocksuckers so get ready.  Maybe it will be this year and maybe it won’t, but fear not we are here to stomp it out of existence.  Those that doubt us SUCK COCK BY CHOICE!

It is not our fault we played an easier SEC schedule - blame the conference schedule makers. Michigan was a marquee matchup before Harbaugh left. Texas is beating teams they should and only dropped a game against a top 5 UGA. We do not have losses to unranked SEC teams (like Bama and Tenn and Ole Miss) or 2 losses (like Georgia, one of which was an 18 point loss and the other, they were down 30-7)

You’re hired!

You seem overly defensive about this. Ryen Russillo is not an "asshat". You can agree with him or not but he's a multimillionaire and - in my opinion - one of the best voices on cfb and the NBA that there is going today.

I'm happy to revisit this with you after the playoffs where I'm assuming that the SEC will dominate.

When there’s that big of a difference in schedule, you can’t punish the team that actually played reasonable opponents. When Indiana loses competitively, say by 7-10 points, to Ohio State, they will have absolutely no argument that they deserve a playoff spot over a team like Tennessee or Bama or Georgia or ole Miss. If Indiana gets rolled, you might as well be arguing that mizzou is a playoff team.

If Texas loses the SEC championship game, I hope we get to play a 1 loss Indiana or Boise State. Theyre the weakest teams in the conversation

Posted

Per Klatt: the argument that hurts Texas is that a playoff contender’s ceiling is demonstrated by their best win. So far, Texas’ best wins are Michigan or Vandy. That’s our problem. If the Horns win out, Texas’ best win will be TAMU.

Seems like everyone’s only viewing this IU/OhSt from the angle of IU and them losing. Is it beyond the realm of possibilities that Oh St loses on Saturday? I mean they haven’t been some juggernaut either. If they were to lose, where will they be positioned amongst all these 2 loss SEC squads? I could see them dropping pretty far themselves

Not everyone views it this way. I've offered to take IU and the points to any comers multiple times. So far no takers. I'm of the opinion IU wins, but I'm a fool with money.

Ohio State has helmet bias and their 2 losses would be to two top 5 teams, with a win over another top 5 team

I think they’re safely in even if they lose. I think Penn St may end up the odd one out if 4 B1G teams don’t get in, but I think they will

Him being a millionaire has nothing to do with this specific stupid take. He might be great at nba, I don’t know, I’ve never heard of him.

He just has a bad take that losses, and bad losses at that, don’t matter for the sec teams just because he thinks they’re good teams.

It’s not just him either. There’s a number of people that are of the mind that quality wins are the only measuring stick. That somehow having multiple losses including bad teams makes you more deserving than IU, psu, or Texas just because you beat uga or bama. It’s just a dumb opinion to have. The guy even knows it when he says that he’s normally of the opinion that losses matter, but not this time. And then he uses wins over arky and lsu as decent wins.

strength of record:

IU - 6

bama - 7

Tenn - 10

ole miss - 12

Indiana is probably worse than those teams. But the results on the field matter.

At the end of the season IU’s strength of schedule number wont look wildly worse than ole miss or Tennessee. IUs remaining strength of schedule is 4th, ole miss is 49, and UTs is 70th. Outside of uga, ole miss does not have a good schedule. Tenn at least got uga and bama. But both take a cowardly approach to non conference scheduling.

It sucks for IU that UM and UW fell off as hard as they did.

At the end of the day I’m not going to lose sleep over whoever gets left out. If it’s a 1 loss IU, well you shouldn’t have ducked Louisville ooc. If it’s a 2 loss sec team, well you shouldn’t have lost to vandy, Arkansas, or Kentucky on top of another loss.

I think we shuold win.  But they have a pretty damn good front 7 and that has been our biggest problem post Michigan.  Our OL is going to have to play a lot better than they did against OU and UGA (and Vandy) and Quinn can't get rattled when we inevitably have some busts that lead to sacks (i.e., we need Florida Quinn and OL play that shrugged off OL bust on first series costing us points).   Kentucky solid up front as well so will be a good gauge of where we are offensively headed into that game.

I don’t know if it’s surprising or right on brand that UGA and Tennessee fans have picked up A&M’s juvenile antics and proclaim Texas paid for or heavily influenced the SEC to give us this schedule.

Its like those people live for conspiracy theories because it’s easier than just applying logic and reasoning.

If Aggy/UGA/Tenn really believed that Texas paid for a better schedule, the first thought should have been, "Why did we not think of that first?"  NOT, "look at them Austin folks influencin' and buyin' the outcomes."  It's not like those programs are poor.

Logic should have taken them to at least ask the question and conclude, "Oh, yeah.  Probably not the case."  But, logic is the key word here...
