Huh?  Ole Miss has the "worst" loss of those 3.

Ole Miss lost to Kentucky by 3 in September in a game that went down to the wire. Alabama just lost to blOU by 21 and failed to score a single TD.

Alabama's loss is far worse. 4-8 vs. 6-6 does not compensate for such a big difference in how the games looked.

ND's SOS sucks and their loss is to a MAC team who is 7-5 at Home and their biggest win is aggy.   we would have 2 losses to the SEC champ.  by every available metric other than loss column we should be #5 but Notre Dame will get it because...reasons and get a walk to the semis

Like I said, strong disagreement for numerous reasons (not to mention that Notre Dame doesn't really bring more eyeballs than Texas if that is what you are insinuating) but hope we don't find out.

Big disagree barring a big loss by Texas. They’be been Basically top 5 all year and had to play an extra game. They’re not going to punish them that harsh.

Strong disagree absent a blowout loss.  I hope we don't have to find out but I'm pretty confident they aren't going to overly penalize teams that are actually playing an extra game.

Agreed.  Only way they don’t end up 5 is if Oregon also loses.

This. Texas is either 1,2, or 5.

Home loss to 4-8 Kentucky is worse than a road loss to 6-6 OU in my book.  To be clear, I think Ole Miss has a better case than Miami.  As does South Carolina for that matter.  Miami is a clear #4 out of that group if I was voting.

I'm not sure a team that lost at home to Northern Illinois has a walk against anyone.

The ou loss should have dropped Bama to 16 or 17. That’s when it was obvious they wanted them in regardless.

But they beat Georgia! Who (checks notes) almost lost to Kentucky and Georgia Tech.

3 loss B12 patsy doesn't deserve to jump BSU imo. They've played good ball all season.

Iowa State and Arizona State have 2 losses.

Let's look at a common opponent

Arizona State 48 Wyoming 7

Boise 17 Wyoming 13

My bad.

That's a disingenuous comparison even if ASU played them a lot better. ASU got them at home in August - Boise went on the road to Laramie in November.

BSU has played a slightly worse schedule than ASU and ISU and has 1 loss instead of 2. Another win over UNLV wouldn't be a bad data point.

There is zero reason the B12 winner should jump BSU if they finish 12-1.

I don't really care either way, just think it would make 0 sense last minute to make that change. I don't really rate BSU or Indiana but I don't rate the B12 either. Just give me the team with the best record in scenarios like that.

Elaborate? Georgia is the best offense we’ve played this year isn’t it?

Were they? One of the frustrating things from that game was that their offense was weak as shit. The Texas offense 3 and outs combined with extremely shitty punting was Georgia's key to success.

Boise State has won their games but the Mountain West is worse than the Sun Belt. For discussion's sake here are my conference rankings this season. Reminder since I haven't run them in a couple of seasons, my conference ratings use my ratings and are just a ranking of expected winning percentage for each conference if FBS football played a complete round robin.

1. SEC, 1468-420, 0.778
2. Big Ten, 1391-697, 0.666
3. Big 12, 1227-661, 0.650
4. ACC, 1243-746, 0.625
5. Independent, 194-199, 0.494
6. Pac-12, 106-158, 0.400
7. Sun Belt, 637-1043, 0.379
8. MWC, 513-951, 0.350
9. American, 571-1109, 0.340
10. MAC, 396-1068, 0.270
11. C-USA, 274-966, 0.221

these are the schools that matter

my two favorite schools are in so I’m all for it lol fuck the other schools

South Carolina deserved it over Alabama but it’s not worth bitching about

I get the whole who have you played argument and conference competition (or lack of) point, but I didn't fathom a 3 loss team even sniffing a 12 team playoff, unless they earned it by winning their conference championship.

fuck Alabama

The numbers suggest a power 4 exists but I still don’t see it.

Actually the big 10 has so many dog shit bottom feeders it actually brings them closer to shitty but competitive conferences like big 12 and ACC so that does actually make sense.

What happens if you only run it with the top 4 conferences?

Arkansas actually has a good offense. No idea if better.

OFEI and FPI Offensive efficiency have Arkansas in the 40s, which have Arkansas defense ranked higher than their offense. Georgia top 10 in both offensively.  If you believe in such things.

This. I want it to be more Dana White (what are the most interesting matchups that will make the best "fights") and less Oscars (treating CFP and seeding as a sort of achievement award)

With a win, Texas’ first game would be the quarterfinal. CFP says they will try to match the conference champs with their traditional bowl- so Texas would go to the Sugar Bowl as SEC champ.

After the quarterfinals, the top remaining seed picks its preferred site for a semifinal game

from the two choices: Cotton and Orange. I assume that if Texas gets the choice, it will be the Cotton Bowl game (Arlington). If Texas’ opponent chooses, it will be the Orange Bowl.

Where do you see this?

I’ve only seen “highest seed” (e.g. Oregon unless they lose Saturday). Nothing I’ve seen says “highest remaining seed”.

And they'll drop Penn State behind Domer if Oregon wins, giving the fucking Domers the 5 seed.

Nobody is getting the benefit of the doubt more than those assholes. They haven't beaten anyone worth a crap and they lost AT HOME to a 7-5 MAC team.

i thought this too until i clicked through on the sagarin rankings yesterday

they're #1 ahead of us at #2

Are you asking if Oregon (or whoever is the #1 seed) would get to choose who plays where in the semifinals even if they lose in their quarterfinal? I'm going to guess that no, they would not. So it's pretty clearly the highest remaining seed.

So I had a loss for us dropping us to 6 behind ND, but I think we might stay 5th. That means we get 12 and 4 which are auto qualifiers and won’t be SEC teams. Helps avoid conferences playing each other early.
Texas v Big 12

PSU v Bama

ND v Indiana

Tn v Ohio state

that would all make sense.

Just wanted to remind everyone here that we will be in our second consecutive playoff and all the other teams can go to hell. I'm not wishing good for any of them. Screw the other SEC teams, Notre Dame and their NIU loss, the Big 12 losers, the Miami trash, the slow ass B1G and all the other garbage.

And a bonus for aggy sitting at home watching us play in Atlanta for an SEC championship in our first year after we went to their overrated tackle box and denied them the opportunity to make it to their first championship game and resolutely knocked them out a chance to make their first playoff. Plus we beat OU's sorrow ass and piggy. All is right with the world.

Alabama has no business in the playoffs. I hate the rankings and am just glad that our team did what they needed to do and didn't leave it up to a bunch of weird ever-changing standards.

Well none of the bubble teams have any business in the playoffs, but one of them has to go in. Almost all of the 80 computer and human polls believe that Bama should be the one that goes in.

Miami lost to Geogia Tech(objectively good team, should have beaten Georgia) by 5 and a good Syracuse team by 3. Both road games. The only reason the ACC isn't seen as a better conference is due to SEC bias and preseason rankings. Seriously, Mizzou fucking sucks. It's not some great win. Yet they were ranked all year and get pumped as a "ranked win" by the SEC teams.

Meanwhile Alabama lost more games than Miami and wasn't even competitive against a bad OU team. Alabama isn't that good.

Are you fucking kidding me? You think Syracuse and Bama are interchangeable? Texas would chokeslam Syracuse. Bama has the potential to beat Texas in a game, Syracuse doesnt. The SEC is way better than the ACC and that isnt bias, it is just fact.

Also, Miami is a 4 loss team on Bama's schedule.

You guys actually meet for days and come up with these rankings??

@CFBPlayoff

Do you actually watch the quality of players, teams, and road environments (we played in one of yours this year ) or just try and make the ACC feel relevant ?? Btw one of your teams paid us not to play again next year. Same #12 spot you guys had Clemson ranked last week. How did that go against the

@SEC

??? Rewatch UGA Clemson closely if you want a reminder of the two conferences. #SpotTheBall anywhere

Pollard has a legitimate point. The 9th Big 12 game is a significant boost to the SOS but is meaningless to the committee which reasons around anything that doesn’t support their preferred outcome. Bama is in for TV ratings, period, regardless of whatever bs they give as their reasoning. It sucks for competition but realignment proved that money is all that matters anymore in CFB and there’s no reason to act surprised or get angry.

I just kind of wish they’d be honest about it instead of always using bs inconsistent reasoning. Here’s all they had to say “Considering Bamas historic popularity and success including their run over the last 15 years, they receive a significant benefit of any doubt. The financial boon they bring to the system benefits everyone so they get the nod.”

Put OU in the ACC this year. You really think they go 6-6 and lose to powerhouses like *checks notes* Duke and SMU?
