I know more than just a few liberals who you could say are scared of muslims, who roll their eyes at non-white and/or female presidential candidates and are completely at odds with the general left sentiments for some or all things LGBTQ+. When the consultants trot out their failed strategies, I get it. There is a segment out there that hangs with Dems by a thread for wins, and sits out enough to be a major factor in many losses.

Anyone who thinks they have a handle on what Dems should do going forward is probably wrong. Oue electorate is a fucking mess. It isn't just the morons on the right that don't understand the issues, hold strong prejudices against one or more out groups and are generally underinformed. There's quite a few left-leaning morons as well. The best play might just be to nominate a bunch of Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Camachos up and down ballots.

What makes these people you know liberals since they don’t hold to much of a liberal worldview?

I was wondering the same thing, maybe better and expanded social programs for all, expanded Medicare, education, labor unions, higher taxes to pay for it, etc, etc, but latent racism,  homophobia and transphobia.

You only think it's a falsehood because it makes you feel bad. I could go on and on and point out the many, many instances of Islamophobic rhetoric and action coming out of the Democratic party in recent years, but it would be better if you actually learned about liberal Islamophobia on your own.

If you actually care to learn, which I sincerely doubt, perhaps I could suggest a book.

They vote Dem, hate Trump, talk a good game about racism and many other liberal priorities, and call themselves liberal. When you see polling where 10% of registered Dems are for something that makes you scratch your head, it’s those people.i just happen to know several

Im not defending them or saying they’re good people. I’m just reminding y’all that there’s less homogeneity left of center than we’d like on even the issues we’d most like to prioritize.

Recall the controversy about Go Set a Watchman’s Atticus Finch vs. TKaMs AF. AF represents the kind of people I’m talking about. They look quite liberal when the fight is about broad strokes racism, but the script nearly flips when you dig deeper.

I mean, the worker, whose votes Dems need and probably should be getting, can be complete troglodytes on just about everything but labor issues, which is why so many of them have voted Trump recently, and unions flirt with him.

One thing that cracks me up, though, is it is scurrilously bad to paint with an overbroad brush on Muslims, but perfectly A-Ok to do the same thing about "Christians," who have a lot of the same problems, with less violence, and are probably more diverse from a "who calls themselves Christian" standpoint.

Nobody ever claimed the "left of center" voting block is homogeneous.  There are always outliers.  To imply that all liberals are scared of Muslims is fucking ridiculous, full stop.

Liberal Islamophobia is not a fringe element. It is pervasive in our society, and liberals are certainly not immune. Yes, obviously it is worse and amplified among conservatives and liberal politicians (who are largely conservatives themselves). I linked you a very good resource to learn about this from a respected academic who has spend decades studying it but, again, I suspect you have no interest in learning anything beyond your current point of view.

The Islamic religion has a lot of problems that make many of its adherents problematic.

The precise same thing can be said of Christians, and the problems are very similar in origin (ancient texts selectively interpreted by uneducated clerics and followed slavishly by uneducated adherents).

The difference being that often, practitioners of Islam are brown, while practitioners of Christianity are white.  But even this isn't really true so much anymore.

And Islam is not a minority religion.

It's kind of like what is actually antisemitic and what is legitimate criticism of Israel.  Curiously, hardly anyone levels criticism at Judaism, per se.

I mean yeah, all religious fundamentalism has this problem, including orthodox Judaism. Read about Kach and Baruch Goldstein sometime. That's not something you would ever learn about in Western curricula.

Lolol here it is

https://abcnews.go.com/Health/rfk-jr-wearables-benefits-risks/story?id=123422287

Wearables in less than 4 years

Wearables have been a tremendous thing for type 1 diabetics. They’re expensive without health insurance and have a lifespan of only 2 weeks.

As a T1D, the pancreas is defective and does not produce insulin; you have to inject it. The question is: how much insulin do I need?

The traditional solution is to puncture your finger tops with a blade, squeeze a drop of blood on a test strip, put the test strip into a small device, and the device reports your blood sugar. That’s a lot of gear to carry around all the time and your fingertips get worn badly after 3-4 tests everyday over the years. 30 years in my case.

The wearable solution is to attach a device to your tricep area that pairs with an app on your phone. I can open the app and get my blood sugar at any time. It can send me alerts if I’m at risk of low blood sugar.  It can show me day over day trends using graphs and charts.  I discovered I have a thing called the “dawn effect” when my blood sugar is normal overnight and starts rising when it’s morning even though I haven’t eaten anything.

A manual test 3-4 times a day simply can’t do any of this.

There are drawbacks: it’s expensive if your health insurance doesn’t cover it, the device has a lifespan of only two weeks, the adhesive makes my arm break out in a rash so I spray some allergy spray on the skin before adhering the device, it’s too easy to bump off doing normal stuff.

Judaism, at least in America, tends not to constantly point out that if you aren't part of their club you are totally fucked in this life and the next.  If that was the case there would be lots more antisemitism here than there is.

Israel profoundly fucked up their response in Gaza.

Repercussions.

Islamophobia is a whack term.  It’s usually deployed in one of two ways:

1. As the accepted term for anti-Muslim bigotry (which is a real thing), although “anti-Muslim” would suffice.

2. As a subtle way to try and blend the lines between legitimate criticism of some types of Islamic belief and practice with anti-Muslim bigotry.

Among some types of academics and commenters there is a pervasive effort to make people think they are talking about 1) when they mean 2); and to use it to immediately silence any justified scrutiny of Islam.

Similar playbook to “Russophobia,” it’s possible to be an anti-Russian bigot who hates Russian people but “Russophobia” as a concept is just a way to try and silence any legitimate criticism of the Russian state, Russian state ideology, and Russian behavior.

You were the one who implied all liberals are scared of Muslims.  Maybe go take a writing course at some school other than Texas Tech.

By the way, those anecdotes included growing up around dozens of Muslims my family would host when they came to the US to attend the engineering school my dad taught at.  They would break bread with us, stay with us, obviously take courses from my father, etc.  I learned about Lebanon, Iraq, Iran etc. in a very real manner, and without question my family was not an outlier.  It was a very common thing for university employees to bring those immigrant students into their households (as well as students from other parts of the world, primarily Asia).  So MY experience is that you're full of shit.

Politicians give endorsements all the time to candidates in other elections. Why the president can’t give his thoughts on an election he couldve easily been voting in is square in a circle thinking.

You could have just said “religion is inherently fucked.” Because that’s the truth of the matter.

I said this in another thread, but Muslims and Christians in a spiritual sense actually have more in common as an Abrahamic religion than either do with Judaism (again, as Abrahamic) in a fundamental sense, despite the closer political and social commonalities between Jews and Christians.

In all three cases, if you are actually "doing the religion correctly" as in, actually living out what the precepts outlined for how to live if you are to call yourself an adherent, to put it coarsely, you are going to necessarily be an extremist IMO.

I think that's the conflict. The conflict with adhering to a prescriptive religion in a secular society and it is, from what I can understand, actually a built-in conflict that is a feature and not a bug.
