Kash's biggest problem is that he is not white.  Easy to get rid of him.

Gretchen Whitmer has a super fan:

I mean, that gal sounded exactly like the measured, sane, rational MAGA types we all know and love.  But I quibble very, very strongly with one thing.

She said Gretchen Whitmer has an ugly butt.  I strongly disagree.  From what I can tell, she has a lovely and tasteful age-appropriate tuchus.  So, that was just uncalled for.

As a former adult leader and long time acting Scout Master, those assholes pretending that the BSA charter mandating no political affiliations does not matter makes me so ragey.

Unfortunately, MAGA is deeply embedded in scouting right now.

I mean, the source problem here is that Kash is solely a sub-par sycophantic social media influencer who was suddenly put in charge of one of the most complex apparatuses in the world -- a challenging mix of legal, intelligence, and law enforcement functions/challenges.  And the often unrecognized fault with such people is that they are SO incompetent that they've never had access to real power (or wealth) before, so when they are handed the keys to the kingdom, they can't HELP but abuse it and loot it for personal gain, like an undisciplined kid given the keys to the candy store.  And in terms of running a complex system, it was like putting a monkey at the stick of an F-35; it was always going to crash, it's just a question of when and how.  The fantastic thing is that the rest of Trump's "hires" are little better.  Kegbreath, Bondi, Homan.  Incompetents and grifters.  Literally the only thing they bring to the table is complete, slavish loyalty to Trump.  Which, not coincidentally, is the only attribute on the planet that he values.

I will stick with the source yiddish, thank you very much.

As a current Scout leader, I have seen much less of this.  Like any volunteer organization, I suspect it strongly depends on the quality of volunteers in your local unit.  I can truthfully say that amongst our leadership, I'm not entirely sure where everyone stands politically.  Be we all stand together in the focus on our youth.  Going camping, cleaning up parks, and generally having fun while doing good works should not have to be a political act.

Interesting timing, just got an out-of-the-blue text from one of our cousins (married into wife's side of the family).  He's military academy-educated, served as an officer, and has worked in defense-adjacent fields for 20+ years (no, I don't know exactly what he does, he can't tell us).  My reply was because his text followed an OLD exchange about, well, dinner.

This cousin has long been a "I know it's bad, but it's not THAT bad" guy.  He's smart as hell, an engineer, and on the conservative end.  He bailed on the GOP a while back, but reluctantly.

I didn't get the Orienteering of the Innerwebz merit badge.

I never understood why Steve Martin’s stand up was funny to people.

Well, when I first saw this bit I was five.  So physical comedy was my jam.   I thought Mr. Bill was the peak of comedic humor.

There should be a generally sad reaction.  For texts like this when generally good but misguided people realized they fucked up.  Like this, but in a reaction:

Asked him what prompted this epiphany.

He and his wife have been involved in refugee assistance for many years. They are conservative and a bit bible-y, but they do walk the walk. He’s a moral guy, so he never had any good feeling for Trump, has always thought he’s scum. But this is a turn for him.

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but which of today's refugee things?  Getting rid of TPS for Somalis?  Americans being detained, shot at and shot for being brown?  I'm sorry, there are just too many options here.

Noticeably missing is "anti-vaxxing", "QAnon", and my personal favorite "ICE Assist"

My son sensed that, and I didn't coach him whatsoever.  He didn't last past Webelos.  He was very uncomfortable in Scouts, and frankly didn't have much fun.  I'm glad I will never get bombarded by tree limbs as I sleep at Lost Pines.  Fuck the asshole that runs that place.

https://www.theverge.com/transportation/829284/republicans-want-to-get-rid-of-car-safety-features-like-aeb

Republicans want to get rid of car safety features like AEB.

All cars are currently required to have automatic emergency braking by 2027. But that mandate could get tossed under a new plan by Senate Republicans to eliminate certain safety rules, in the interest of making cars more affordable. Also under scrutiny are alarms warning if there’s a child left in the rear seat. Weirdly they’re not targeting expensive creature comforts, like heated steering wheels and wireless charging. Just the safety ones.

Same.  I'm part of two different Scout groups - one Boy Scout and one Cub Scout.  I'm a den leader for the pack and on the parent committee for the troop.  I've been on many campouts and other events and I can happily say that politics never came up.  I have occasional thoughts about where certain people stand politically, but it's not germane to what we're doing.  Both groups have a lot of really high-quality people running them, so we've been lucky, I guess.

The thing that pisses me off about kids like this- 100% chance the troop was super lax about merit badge qualifications.  Some our sticklers for checking all the boxes for each badge (like my son's was), and others are like, meh, close enough.  I guarantee you he was in the latter group.
