Below we have YOU, a member of the bar, liking a comment from another fellow member of the bar, applauding a call for ethnic cleansing -- a fucking war crime.

It's kind of rich that you're more concerned with a single dead executive than you are with 2 million people, ~45,000 of whom are now dead a little over a year later.

Let's see if you all have this same big dick energy about 'righteous homicide' the next time some religious nutjob takes out a doctor performing a legal abortion.  We either live in a lawful society or we don't.

You’d be ok with that. This is just a large part of the country’s version of that. I don’t get why that’s hard to understand for you.

You're starting to get it!  We are not a polite, lawful, or "civilized" society.  Adjust your expectations accordingly.

Plenty of folks have listed their reasoning, not their fault you've parsed their words poorly or ignored the context in which they have presented their views.  Additionally, this is Surly so there is always a degree of edgelording and misanthropy for a thread/event like this.  I often think of an alternate universe where we could have liveblogged/Surly'ed 9/11 as it happened, just for the raw emotion and the way too soon comments/jokes. (though I am sure that thread exists somewhere in the previous Texas sports related message boards).

Embrace the dark.  Just like Helen Keller.

The example you provided is that of a nutjob killing a doctor over something that he had no business butting into.

Your analogy would be more fitting if it were the husband of the patient murdering the doctor over an intentionally botched abortion that resulted in his wife's death.

We don’t live in one. We have a convicted felon as president elect. Americans have decided they don’t care about the law so 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think this is what it boils down to for many on this board and angry social media in general.  The person you (and I) wanted to win the election didn't so now just blow it all up.  I think it's a pretty pathetic position to take as allegedly educated and productive members of society but that's just me.

Man you think this is about an election? Jesus. There's literally no recourse in the system against corporate interests. Because we made it this way, people are going to snap like this because there is literally nothing else that can be done. Politicians sure aren't doing anything.

You are right. But I see this murder getting a similar reaction no matter who won the election. Think about the reaction when some parent snuffs a child molester. There is a level of loathsomeness that if attained by a victim, nobody cares. Seems like Insurance CEO snuck over the wire into "child molester" territory, if molesting children were technically legal. I didn't think about them at all before, probably because my insurance is not complete shit. Those with shit insurance appear to feel differently.

I mean, what else is there? It's not just someone whose policy positions are disagreeable to some. It's someone with zero policy positions, multiple crimes and convictions, and who won on rhetoric of hatred towards large swaths of people who are about to face a world of hurt. Oh, and its the side that calls anything that might change the health insurance system socialist traitors. So yeah, blow it the fuck up, the side that at least tried to hold to the rule of law lost, by a lot. It's already been blown up. I literally don't care anymore if the response is violence, the alternative has failed.

You know goddamned fucking well the "quality of the candidate" had nothing to do with anything, and of course you only hold one side to this standard either way. Antivaxers for health and human services and pro wrestling executives to head education, way better than someone whose policy on what exactly was problematic? Inflation? Gas prices? Gaza? I see you're still sticking to your guns on disingenuious bullshit.

What if, now hear me out cuz this gonna get a bit speculative. What if the killer set up Luigi to be the ultimate fall guy? Catfished him into coming to New York staying at a hostel, traveling places by bus in an elaborate game of catch me if you can for intimate reasons. All the while the catfisher was plotting to kill the United guy, and frame Luigi. Luigi’s family was the care facility owner, that wronged said catfisher a long with the united insurance guy,  and he plotted Luigi take the fall. All the catfisher had to do was get off that first bus and get a rental to follow Luigi until the right moment. That moment was a McDonald’s known for old timers hanging out. It’s like a Michael Crichton novel he added his name to, but didn’t write.

Give me a fucking break. There are plenty of corporatist Democrats who are just as beholden to our broken healthcare system as the GOP. This issue transcends party. Attribute it to a single election all you want, doesn't make it so.

Sometimes things are clear. Sometimes things are various graduations of gray.  Not moving to the back of the bus is not an assassination.  Being forced to sit in the back of the bus is not the same as legitimate healthcare being denied your loved one…and so they die.

And there is this: the  electorate of the country just said we don’t really give a shit about the rule of law.   You might be engaged in some old timey type thinking.

Seems the bombing of abortion clinics has gained approval from a lot of folks around here.

wrong.  Neither case is legal.

being anti-abortion=/= pro-bombing.  Take your brush down a few pegs.  However,  the fact that you are partially correct is exactly the point of my initial comment.

Appears to be the real manifesto. At least it matches up with some of the media quotes...

https://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/luigis-manifesto

“To the Feds, I'll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience. The spiral notebook, if present, has some straggling notes and To Do lists that illuminate the gist of it. My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy. United is the [indecipherable] largest company in the US by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart. It has grown and grown, but as our life expectancy? No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allwed them to get away with it. Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty.”

Sure, why the fuck not. We've decided as a society that the rule of law and basic civility are bad so do whatever the fuck you want. I'm far more outraged by police killings and that half the country cheered on the acquital of a teenage murderer because they didn't like the people he killed so who fucking cares when its a health insurance CEO whose industry directly causes thousands of preventable deaths every day and a lot more suffering. History is littered with revolutions against the ruling classes and extreme wealth inequality. Doomscrolling on social media might be delaying the inevitable but there is a reconing coming one way or another and this asshole dying doesn't bring me an ounce of sympathy. Maybe a decade ago but we've chosen our path. Full cloak room so I'll stop there.

*reckoning

and yes...

Got it.  So first degree murder now fine and dandy as long as you agree with the political or social motivations behind the killing. Victim not alleged to have done anything illegal?  Fuck him - worked for an evil corporation so he deserved it.  2 kids left without a father?  Fuck them too.  Pathetic.

I have no doubt we'll see some massive hypocrisy from several posters when this plays out under a different set of facts and the killing does not align with their personal political/social belief systems.

we see that already. i'd wager a lot that there's a significant crossover in the venn diagram of posters with the vapors over the general 'meh' reaction to this murder and posters that had very similar reactions to a punk gunning down some guys in Minneapolis. or a guy pardoned for actively looking for trouble in Austin and finding it.

yeah, not great bob...but we are already here, we've been here for a while, and it's only been reinforced of late. so...yeah.
