This kid can get bent. I desperately hope that UW is able to force him to stay and they should bench him after he’s played enough games to use up his eligibility that year. Start a whisper campaign about attitude and character, locker room cancer, etc. I’d do that if I were Fisch. He’s gotta have fuck you money by now.

This is probably a stupid question but if he signed a contract on January 2nd what was he doing in the portal ?

I thought Sark didn’t let people come back after they hit the portal?

He’s better than the Cincy QB that went to Tech - so, yes.

Williams was never in the portal. Like Isaac Brown he announced an intention to enter the portal but never actually entered.

Seems like neither he nor his representatives understand the ramifications of signing a contract.

I agree.

But things have changed, evidently, and maybe Boom wanted/needed him back, so Boom got Sark to take him back?

I think some of it is being able to maintain a close connection back to the islands as well as having teammates that are from there. I’ve found that it seems to be a really hard adjustment for many of the Hawaiian football players when they go further east to play. I hope Sagapolutele does well at Cal, but he’s definitely a QB that could step right into a top 10 team and be the guy on day one.

Agree, I think he is a potential #1 pick in a couple years. Cal is going all in on having Poly coaches, keeping Rolovich as QB coach with his Hawaiian background and recruiting heavily from Hawaii (I want to say 6-7 current players are from there) is not hurting. Plus they are making him the centerpiece of the team. They promised him that if he stayed, they would get him all the players on offense. So far a top WR, TE. An RB with a high potential OL and rumors of 2 more top end WRs, another RB and some good OL pieces to come. He threw for 3k this year with absolute dogshit around him. The Cal WRs dropped, literally, 10 TDs this past season. Outside of JKS,DeJesus and to a lesser degree, Raphael, they fucking sucked on O.

Cal is going all in on avoiding relegation to the G6. They had $20m roll in within 24 hours of Lupoi getting announced and more money has come since then. And there is other behind the scenes stuff brewing that I will believe when I see it announced. I expect them to have a monster portal class and potentially contend for an ACC title next year. Shit got real in Berkeley…

If he signed that contract I would absolutely hold him to it and make this as hard on LSU as they possibly can. I realize this portal stuff is somewhat lacking in any real rules, but man that’s pretty low to do that on Kiffin and Williams.

NIL contracts aren't employment contracts, there's nothing Wash can really do to stop him from going to LSU.

All they can really do is squeeze as much $$$ in damages out of LSU/Williams as possible.

Unless damages are specified in the contract, what are they if they never have to pay him?

How long until Robertson portals and Goosby announces he’d rather be a late 1st round pick?

Good perspective from a poster on IT who has had some inside info in the past:

So, people are losing their minds tonight because portal success is falling short of their expectations. Do they have a point? Let's examine the facts.

In Sarkian fashion, Texas came out of the portal gate this year firing only at the very best transfer prospects in the nation - some only testing the waters, and some holding a one-way bus ticket out of town.

Five days in, the staff has scored some nice wins but none yet on offense where they've racked up a series of L's with two high-profile RBs and also one olineman that they targeted heavily.

The common denominator? These were all among the very best players from serious football schools in major conferences.

Did Texas get wildly outbid (or even just outbid) because they're not ALL-IN? Nope. Texas came with big offers and players ruminated but ultimately got big new contracts with their schools and elected to stay home and withdraw from the market. Or they never entered in the first place.

The expectations among fans were sufficiently high that many thought we would land most if not all of these guys. But did the staff? Important question. At least we can say they were optimistic enough that they took their very best shot with them.

Two years ago, nearly the exact thing happened at our most important position group in the portal, defensive tackle. Sark attempted to do the same thing he did this year - go try to steal the baddest MFs he could from a wobbly major program, Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham.

The staff was reasonably optimistic, thought we had a decent shot (a moonshot, honestly), and took them. Two swings and misses, they both stayed at Michigan. And then were drafted in the first round.

The ultimate outcome for Texas? We raided the portal for four DTs and ended up just fine. Would Sark tell you today that he regretted taking his shot with the Michigan DTs?

I might argue that we are taking moonshots at major difference-makers again this year and so far are being defeated not by rival schools outbidding us but by the prospects' home schools beating us on a tilted field. Again, these are not pure economic decisions. Factors like relationships, loyalty, legacy and inertia weighed heavily.

So Sark & co, five days into the portal, have underperformed a lot of fans' expectations. That much is clear. But have they underperformed their own expectations? Not as clear.

But more importantly, did Sark and the boys F up by taking moonshots on some of these guys at key positions of need?

I don't know, I need to see where we end up and then assess the opportunity cost of their spending the first weeks before and after the portal opening focused on these high-profile targets.

A lot of consternation seems to be driven by FOMO as prospects like Adam Mohammed - whom everyone fell in love with over a 24-hour period - traded away. But the staff showed no real interest in Mohammed. And previously unknown high-value prospects continue to enter the portal as I type.

We as fans just don't have much visibility into the staff's position boards or contingency plans. I know a year ago I couldn't have named any of the DTs we ended up signing.

So, again, what was the ultimate opportunity cost for taking these big swings early in the portal? And what does that tell us about Sark's strategy?

I know I won't be able to answer that until I see how the class comes together over the next few weeks. And I can't begin to predict it.

I think that players getting paid (not big NIL, but some) for their announce for certain teams with certain outlets as a "scoop fee" or something is coming. I know I've tossed around the idea of hogging every single NFL and portal announcement in and out of Texas this way instead of doing Burnt Ends. It wouldn't take all that much to buy the exclusive and become the outlet for that exclusive. This is how it works in the NFL and every other major sport where there's dealings with major media outlets. I almost offered this to Jack Endries to get the exclusive on it, but because of the contract non performance and a bunch of other shit I didn't really feel like it was the right time to push for it.

247 says we're "expected to be interested" in Quincy Porter doesn't feel real to me though

Once former five-star receiver Quincy Porter is officially in the transfer portal, the number of suitors will be plentiful.

Sorting through them will come swiftly for the former Ohio State Buckeye, who has a short time to make a visit or two and then decide on his next school.

And in speaking with sources, the suitors are expected to line up and stretch from coast-to-coast and be from each of the Power Four conferences.

According to sources, the number of expected options are plentiful. Those sources said Michigan, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Auburn, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Miami, Florida, Oregon, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Washington and Cincinnati are expected to show interest.

night crew hearing mixed signals… night crew FlightAware on the fritz, Harris is apparently doing jack shit with no direction from his boss and our opponents are using the fake nfl sark news against us. The good news is we’re fucked in more ways than one but it shouldn’t get worse

If they miss on Coleman I could definitely see them being interested. Porter is 6’4” 210 pounds and unlike any other WR Texas currently has on campus (assuming Michael Terry sticks at RB).

These are high school highlights, but he didn't play too much last season, so...

LSU is in on that Wisconsin Guard as well.. Gonna be another fight

Porter wouldn't make much sense. That is basically like getting another Lockett or Ffrench from the portal. Total unknown who is asking for big money based only on his former five star status. Probably a really good player and he definitely fits the larger bodied profile of what I would like to see us add in the portal but that is just too much risk in one position group. Get someone proven even if its a lower ceiling player.

IT poster has good perspective but poor facts (I think, correct me if I’m wrong on the following). Let’s look at the case though because it’s interesting

After missing on Graham/Grant in 2024, we only signed one DT in the winter portal window: Tia Savea. The staff had the benefit of the spring portal window, where they signed Lole and Norton (after missing on Damonic Williams) for a total of three DTs. The springs window no longer exists.

I think it’s worth noting that the interior of the defensive line turned out great in 2024 primarily because of the development of Broughton and Collins. They were the real disruptors. Savea was a bust (another advantage of the spring window). Lole and Norton were somewhere between good and great in their rotational roles.

The biggest issue is that we don’t have a Collins/Broughton for each of the IOL spot. I can be talked into Robertson as serviceable and a Baker/Brooks combo of some kind on the right side of the offensive line, but Kibble was the only other guy that I’ve heard get positive buzz at an IOL spot. I guess it’d be Chatman or Cojoemat LG? It’s not great that every potential guard is a currently tackle. And the leap of faith requires belief in development that we haven’t seen at IOL, another stark contrast to DT going into 2024 (though we were switching from Davis to Baker).

That said, the need levels in the two cases are pretty similar. The issue, imo, is that the calculus doesn’t seem to have changed in the last two years despite: A) an opportunity to learn from 2024 and B) the lack of a spring window greatly reducing the margin for error. I think we can be fine with 2 OL, but that’s opening up a lot of risk if either busts or injuries happen. OL is also unique because they’re often hampered by the weakest link. We need to recruit to the point our fifth guy is solid.

It’s still too early for me to get worked up but it’s not looking great.

Edited by UpperWestside

I don’t think anyone really understood or could have predicted how big of a shift the single portal window would have on retention. Texas isn’t the only fanbase frustrated they haven’t been able to lure high end talent into the portal. Not an excuse for where we sit at OL at this point, more of an observation looking around CFB.

It’s like Christmas when your parents started you with a stocking and then you opened up underwear and socks and a sweater or something like that before getting to the good stuff.
