Terry is a Tweener WR. He’s never going to be a “big back” the way you’re implying. Unless by big you just mean Tall. Think Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

Kinda crazy that Terry's name hasn't come up at all (yet!) in this craziness. I'm not trying to wish it into existence, but a high 4-star that didn't play and doesn't really have a position? Surprised he's not on Kentucky's roster already.

I'm sure Barnes got a nice payday from Kentucky because they are spending like drunken sailors, but none of the other Texas portal players have hit the jackpot so far.

How does Kentucky have a lot of NIL money? I guess horse breeding farms and coal?

OU stupidly paid Livingstone double what we would’ve.

It's the OU way. They are a declining program. This year was their high water mark. Venables will likely be out at the end of next season. Then they will begin the cycle of mediocrity until the landscape of college football shifts again.

He is asking for a lot of money while being unproven. That is the conundrum he has put us in. Blame his agent.

Guys on our own roster shouldn't be unproven to us. If they're going to be good we should be able to retain them for less money than getting players who have proven it elsewhere on the open market.

This all presupposes our staff can evaluate our own players which, based on the OL and RB we went into 2025 with, is not a good assumption. Alas.

200k less than a mil so they got a bargain.

Money. Ball.

So are we down to just needs on offense or is the consensus we need one more starting safety as well?

Did the monkey fucker filling up on specialist and TE replacement the first few days limit the rest of the shit the hive mind will instantly complain about? I get that are going to hear about the angst of needing more OL until the end of time, but what else are we actually looking at? This place has become almost as idiotic as the football board.

Clark is asking for a lot of money based off of one performance against Michigan in an exhibition game. He is unproven against elite competition but wants money as if he is proven.

A Sydir Mitchell meal plan would burn through WF's entire endowment within the year

Is he worth it? We should have more information to decide than any other team.

I'm not talking about Clark specifically. My point is that if we're HS recruiting and developing well we should have guys who are going to be good that we want to keep who are ready to play. It shouldn't be a blanket policy of, "you didn't play last year, here's a 50% pay cut."

Edited by WBT

Clark might be a one game wonder. Ok recruiting over him for Hollywood

They don't play the same role and are very different receivers, so it shouldn't matter.

Guy who rushed for 100 yards in a bowl exhibition game or guy who rushed for almost 1k yards in the ACC in a full season

Aggies have added (4) SEC offensive linemen in the portal. Texas has added (1) OL from Oregon State. Appreciate some of the recent portal additions, but this is a f’ing problem

Smothers is way better than Clark. Who cares

I think "who cares?" is actually kind of an interesting question. On one hand, you're 100% right in that Hollywood Smothers most likely makes the 2026 Texas Longhorns better than Christian Clark does. That's great.

I think what's causing a lot of consternation for fans though (not just here, but social media, Reddit, etc) is that a key difference between the NFL and CFB is evaporating before our eyes. I'm a lifelong Cowboys fan, but pro sports is just about rooting for laundry. Recruiting and player development over a defined 5-year window in CFB offered fans a narrative that doesn't exist in the NFL. There was some joy in having your program identify a Christian Clark, recruiting him, developing him, and eventually seeing him on the field.

…. I watched Hollywood Smothers highlights… and he’s a fucking stud. I’d take him over Baugh given the choice. Dude can house it. As for Clark…. okay… bye. Thanks for contributing to 1 gave over your two years and enjoy fighting for playing time at Kansas. If we end up with Smothers and Brown, all the hand wringing over Wisner, Baxter and the rest of the room will look stupid. I also watched Wisner’s highlights from this season and the difference in talent is eye opening. We’ve gotten used to watching shitty RB play for two years in a row now and it’s going be fun watching NFL talent in the backfield again.

I’m glad you’re “okay “with it. If we get him, you should be ecstatic. He’s only the highest rated RB in the portal outside of the overrated UNT back. Bama went after Smothers hard to upgrade their RB position. Pair him with Brown and we have two guys that can house it. This offense SEVERELY lacked guys can make plays outside of Wingo. And even Wingo’s production I would argue was manufactured by scheme as he’s not a guy that can make a guy miss in space. I’m going to love watching Brown and Smothers in the screen game… assuming we get Smothers. Plus, he has a badass fucking name.

It seems like the Cal Poly lineman is in very high demand.

Thanks. I must have missed that one.

I'm trying to remember... isn't the sec the conference that sucks in bowl games?

Clark is an interesting case. He knows he is not RB1 and we need another RB even with him, but because of his injurhe needs tape to make any more money. I could see a plan as I will ask for whatever, see if Texas pays or gets close or gets shutout for better in the portal. If it doesn't happen at Texas then I am OK going for a lower deal to be a starter and then move back up.

I don't want him to leave but in reality it may be best for him.

Aggy lost what, 4 of their 5 OL. They are taking anyone and everyone that is willing to say yes. We are returning a top 15 LT, a seasoned RT, and a center that played well down the stretch. We also have a young guard in Brooks that is extremely talented and will push for playing time. The situation at aggy and Texas are not equal. Not saying we don’t need a talented 1-2 OL, but they have no one and are taking guys that sucked on the field just to field a group of 5 OL.

Exactly, Texas needs 1 or 2 legit OL. They need to revamp their entire OL. They're taking bodies right now. If Texas added several of their "SEC" spares this board would be bitching.

I hope we are. I was sent on this train of thought by an earlier comment that big programs should only be paying for production not potential. Even Texas doesn't have unlimited money.

I get it, but the ground is shifting beneath everyone's feet here - fans, recruitniks, coaches, players, admins, writers, etc. You want it to be one way, but it is now the other.

In the end, what we're really cheering for (Texas) and against (all enemies in other uniforms) is the name on the front of the jersey. I'm not close to cutting my allegiance in that regard, so I will do my due diligence in the offseason to understand my team and the landscape, same as it ever was, and then I will be watching and cheering happily for another season when it gets here. We're still a mostly captive audience.

You speak for yourself when you say you'd take Smothers over Baugh. I wouldn't. Texas is going to need a Mr. Inside in some regard, and I doubt that's Terry. Cooper doesn't see himself in that light, either. But, if Texas lands Smothers, great, he's really good, and the other guys will have to embrace their roles.

People offering concern about Clark leaving or apprehension with guys like Barnes and the like, their points are fine. Texas has already shown that they'd rather keep those guys than not. However, they're not going into 2026 relying on those guys to live up to long term expectations as starters. Texas, for all of the pissing and moaning on this thread, is pushing every chip in for this upcoming season. We can disagree with how they're going about it, but they're doing it irrespective of what handwringing dipshits here might think.

They've had multiple guys on campus that have not been named. All announcing players does is drive up prices. They've landed their top target at CB and arguably the best one in the portal. We may not love the ST takes, but Texas signed their top target at all 3 positions. Texas didn't land the first guys they tried to get into the portal at RB, but they landed one of the best options that opted in and they're on the verge of landing another. They landed their top target at in-line TE. Top target at NT. They're fully aware that they need 2-3 more OLs. They've made an aggressive offer to the best overall non-QB in the portal in Cam Coleman. They're after big names at LB and S still.

They are looking at their roster and actively upgrading for the following season. They're then going to work on retention with some guys who don't want to leave, but won't be ready for major roles in 2026. I remain a skeptic, but I will not be surprised if Texas comes out of the cycle smelling like a rose and upgraded across the board.

I can’t decide what what’s funnier. Brauny wanting to add a sunroof to his Elko sized head or Bama mods suggesting they turn Texas into SEC compliance.

Happy Wild Card Weekend yall!

I get the idea that oustide of Wingo, this staff didn't mind losing anybody at the skill positions. Unless they could get them back at a low price where no resources had to be committed. Rightfully so.

"anybody at the skill positions" is a bridge too far. They had no interest in losing Townsend, Winston, Lacey, or Mosely. They made competitive offers to the freshmen WRs. No one is trying show M Terry the door.

Clark is actually in a really awkward player development position. Texas brought in a badass to be the development back and hopefully heir-apparent RB1 in Cooper and brought in a RB1a replacement for Wisner in Brown that is a 5th year SR. Hollywood would be a RB1a/b guy and technically have 2 years of eligibility.

Where would Clark "fit" the the plan if Smothers is there? A Brown/Smothers combo eats up most of his potential carries and leaves him as RB3/4 fighting for reps. The year after, if Smothers stays, Clark is now a JR and would be fighting for reps with Cooper now getting a full year in the program.

I get his asking to get paid, I also get Texas telling him thanks, but no thanks if that is the case.

I think Zion took the last DT spot.

We were looking at EDGE Wendell Gregory - I think that's over. He'd be a backup for us and can get more snaps elsewhere, but would be a great replacement to have next year when Simmons and Spence both leave.

A LB maybe. We are looking good on talent, just light on numbers.

The thought behind another safety is the idea that Muschamp wants a safety at nickel and Littleton moving outside. We might have what we need on the team right now, though. He doesn't seem to be prioritizing the position.

RB feels like we want an impact guy or nothing now. I can't jump into the staff's mind on how they feel about Clark/Simon/Cooper, but we are looking at starting-level workhorses. Raleek can play the slot/motion APB and be a rotation guy, but he's not thought of as the guy getting 20 carries in the second half to close a game. (And he probably doesn't want to get broken in his contract year.)

We need a starting WR and multiple depth/developmental. We just lost a lot this year.

Two more OL is ideal?

Appreciate the feedback. In regards to people questioning Aggie OL portal acquisitions, Aggies have added the #6, #38, & #42 offensive linemen from the portal (247 Sports Portal Rankings). Now I don’t know what that means in terms of quality, but I have my doubts that this equates to conclusive mediocrity. What we all know for certain is, as of this moment, UT’s had more out than in at the position. We also know historically the current staff have preferred to attack the position out of high school and not the portal. And finally, we know that this approach did not produce results last season, even w/ the later season improvements along the line
