Didn’t Goosby’s brother commit(basketball)? I don’t think there is much to worry about there.

They turned down unmatchable BYU $$ for Austin to play for Miller, but they’re going to uproot Trevor for a year? Seems rather unbelievable. Why the fuck are all the 995ers turning into fcb this cycle?

All the 995ers stink right now, even the ones we normally trust.

i was told we were playing the portal to win this off season? how is the loss of the best olineman on the team to the portal playing to win?

It was pointed out in another thread that Portal isn’t the issue with Goosbey. It’s the NFL Draft.

People on this thread are complaining about players entering the portal who have not entered it and bitching about how we haven’t taken anyone from the portal when the window hasn’t even opened yet. Pull yourselves together

Indeed.

What people are talking about is the IT report up above about Goosby potentially portaling.

More realistically, we should have been in the playoffs this year but for a wasted offseason where the coaches identified and strengthened none of our glaring O-line and RB room weaknesses. In other words, the same thing we're worried could very well repeat itself this year.

But hey, if you want to place the blame at the feet of the committee after watching Connor Stroh stumble around for 60 minutes against a dismal 4-8 Florida squad, instead of questioning the multiple poor coaching decisions that led to such a situation, that's your prerogative.

Woah woah woah. Connor Stroh only stumbled around against Florida for ~ 20 minutes before Nick Brooks took his place at left stumbler.

I'm a little disappointed in you satya. That's a detail that opens up so many more doomer angles: the future of our OL is fucked, Flood's whiffing on his big time recruits, it was a red flag that UGA let him get away, etc.

LSU's entire OL seems to be hitting the portal, Lane must be clearing house. They're going to be active competition

Well nothing has happened yet, so there’s that.

Yep. As usual a lot of this board is already panning the movie before anyone has seen it. Find a seat and wait until it starts.

The 20% rake for the agent assumption is absurd if it's accurate. That's a magnitude higher than what they should be making

Surely he and Wingo are 2A/2B (after Arch) for retention, right?

I would add Simmons and Arch, and then go Goosby, Wingo, and then take your pick.

Worked for them the first time but it's boom or bust, nothing in the middle

Concepcion actually had solid d1 game stat sheets. Wilson has 12 catches.and only one game where he played worth a shit. 🤬

Not seeing the comparison. Wilson is by far riskier.

And probably more expensive

The recruiting board turning into a quasi football board has been a hilarious development this last week or two.

It worked for Jelani McDonald. We'll see what kind of athlete Terry is on NYE.

Typical is 10% for an average player. Top players can negotiate a lower fee.

It's been like that for the 11 years I've frequented this site!

Worked for JT Sanders too in the sense that he was designated athlete, but I’d srgue that’s different because he was an athlete bc he had 2 positional fits that were clean- one on offense and one on defense and a fist fight over who got him in their room.

That’s different than the “this guy is athletic but we don’t know that he has any traits where he’s going to succeed guy”.

Also- a problem with “athlete” in today’s CFB world is when those guys do develop it often comes late. When guys aren’t on a clear track now it seems they are bigger portal risks. I’d guess in the new world you don’t have many guys stay for year 3 and 4 that haven’t made a decent sized impact on the field by year two. The clock starts ticking earlier than it ever has on guys now.

In the past you would have bad days, around national signing day or a big decommitment. But overall the board was much more sane. This long window before the one portal and a lack of anything to play for has poisoned this board with regarded takes.

9.95 has been one of the most dumbass heavy places on this website since the websites' inception in 2018. Made creepier by the nature of old dumbasses obsessing over teenage boys.

Our fans have been nothing but bitch made whiny pussies the second we lost to Ohio State.

Miserable failure of a season, why haven't we gotten anyone from the portal yet??? (It's not open), why isn't Flood fired yet??? (we might need a couple people coaching the bowl game this week), blah blah blah

Texas has gone 12-2 (Big 12 champ and CFP semifinals), 13-3 (SEC runner up and CFP semifinals) and 9-3 (so far) in 3 seasons. After the shit sandwiches we were fed for a dozen years, our fan base expected us to immediately jump into Georgia/Ohio State/Bama under Saban territory.

2025 wasn't what we were fed by our $9.95ers, but 9-3 with wins over OU and aggy ended up pretty satisfying, and we can still hit double digit wins. And we have shit blasted OU 3 of the last 4 years and embarrassed aggy 2 years in a row.

You'd think we finished the year playing in the Pinstripe Bowl, fighting with other top 5 preseason teams to finish 7-6.

Portal update from IT

While anything truly new is hard to come by when it comes to certain portal targets before they actually become portal targets, we’ll do our best to give you the latest. We’ll include a layer of important retention notes as well as a look at what to expect when the portal opens on January 2.

Portal Watch

As we’ve mentioned, Texas would be an ideal landing spot for Florida RB Jadan Baugh. Following Jabbar Juluke to Austin wouldn’t surprise a handful of people behind the scenes. At the moment, the new Florida staff doesn’t really know where it stands with Baugh, according to sources.

New head coach Jon Sumrall spoke with Baugh and his family last week and came out of the meeting feeling like they made their best pitch. Still, there’s growing sentiment that Texas could ultimately be Baugh’s destination.

Juluke was the coach who stood on the table for the Peach State product in Gainesville. There’s a sense the Forty Acres would be Baugh’s top spot if he enters the portal this week.

With a handful of bowl games being played over the last few days, don’t be surprised to see several players declare their intentions to enter the portal who would fit Texas quite nicely—most notably at wide receiver and defensive tackle. We’re monitoring a pair of former TXHSFB prospects and former Texas targets, among others.

RETENTION EFFORTS

Texas still has a few loose ends to tie up before the transfer portal opens on January 2.

The two most notable are Trevor Goosby and Ryan Wingo. Both will be playing in the Citrus Bowl on Wednesday while their agents handle the business side of the business.

Sources tell Inside Texas that both want nothing more than to return to Austin for a national title run in 2026. Both are viewed in the highest regard by the team and staff. Both are considered priorities and would be difficult to replace, however, the school understands it needs to have back-up plans just in case.

There’s some confidence that both situations will be resolved before the surge hits college football in five days—but it’s something we’re still monitoring Monday morning.

Moving on: we still cannot rule out a negative surprise as some lower profile, but still-important negotiations are ongoing. Texas should put these little fires out but you just never know.

LOOMING CHAOS

To be sure, it’s already a chaotic mess behind the scenes.

While Inside Texas remains confident in Texas’ ability to land a great portal haul, a ton of work remains. We don’t get the sense that paperwork is going to start rolling in right as the portal opens and/or players are officially in.

Again, nothing can be “done” until the player is officially in the portal on January 2. To our knowledge, there is only one player who seems like he’s for sure heading to Texas.

The window from Jan 2-16 is likely to be crazy throughout and beyond.

Expect a lot of movement once the portal officially opens, with Inside Texas tracking developments in real time as dominoes begin to fall.

Gerry made an interesting comment on OTF this morning that his Florida sources don't think they will be able to keep both Baugh and Dallas Wilson. Likely only one.

I know this isn’t a groundbreaking thought, but having the sport’s free agency period begin in the middle of the playoffs is the most absurd decision in all of American sports.

So Goosby and Wingo want to be here for next year, we really want them here for next year and are treating them like a priority, why is this suddenly an issue?

Texas: you want to be here next year?

TG/RW: yes. You want to pay us to be here next year?

Texas: yes

I would keep Baugh considering Wilson has already had two foot injuries this year. I say this knowing Wilson went Randy Moss all over our secondary.

Probably because agents are involved.

Although considering how the Goosby family has operated with both Trevor and his brother, I'm assuming they have a good process/representation and aren't just looking for money grabs.

If Florida doesn't know where they stand with Baugh, it means he's already made up his mind to leave.

This is where the NIL world gets silly, in my opinion. If Texas is willing to pay wingo sum A and he wants to be at Texas then he should sign. The issue is his agent floats that sum around and some random school that has saved up money for a wr throws out sum B then it’s in Texas’s corner to match or pass. It’s nonsense but ultimately will probably workout for Texas more often than other schools who are less rich. I may not be understanding it correctly though tbh.

This happens every year with our best players and they never leave. It's negotiation in public and/or 9.95ers drumming up news.

Money grab or not, there is a decent argument to be made if you are Miami beyond dollars that it's a better spot for O Line development. I don't necessarily agree, but Im not Mario Cristobal.

Losing Goosby would and should be the death knell in any faith any of us may have in Flood if not Flood and Sark
