The only thing I can think of is they think Bama's defense can handle Mateer easily. I think OU wins that because Bama's offense can't do anything against the Sooner defense.

I mean, that’s the way it’s played out the last two times. Of course, my best rule of thumb is that if a betting line looks like easy money to me, I should probably go the other direction.

Notre Dame lost 2 games by 4 points total to two playoff teams and then won 10 in a row and Miami gets in?

Which of those games should I watch to convince me ND is a playoff team?

Notre Dame got punished for relying on their strength of losses. Similar resume and lost the H2H be Miami. Fuck them.

Agreed.  While the Alabama loss is a data point, it isn’t everything.  ND’s schedule was shit.

Conference championship games don't matter except when they do
Scheduling matters except for every team that scheduled multiple fbs teams
Head to head matters except when it doesn't
Money is the most important thing so lets make sure we have 21 pt underdog Tulane in the field

This is fraud. What else needs to be said? This is not a playoff, it's a bullshit invitational ran by a committee fueled by Ensure. There is no way this format remains the same next year. No fucking way.

It is but it isn't.

It's basically all bullshit outside the top 4-6.

There's no logic or consistency to it. The Bama, ND, BYU, Miami moves the last 2 weeks prove that in multiple ways.

Ultimately the Kentucky and Miss St games are probably what screwed Texas as much as anything. Yes, they were wins, but they were bad ones by eye test and computers.

True. But the same kind of thing was true during the BCS era.

Well, we used to get called "soft" by the media and other fanbases, but at some point in the 90s we started scheduling really salty nonconference games, and it helped dispel that perception.  Now that it's clear those games do not help should a team lose, fuck it.  Cancel them all.

I wonder if having a second grab at the apple after Bama reviews film of their first match makes a difference. I.E., what new wrinkles can Venables bring to the table, if any, or was it just a case of Bama's OL and QB are simply unable to win regardless and a repeat of the same.

Bama needs healthy running backs. That's the only way they beat OU's defense as we've seen Simpson folds against good defenses.

Surly can quit bitching about P5 auto bids in relation to Texas not getting in. The committee still had ND, BYU, and maybe Vandy ahead of us.

Vandy was behind us. And if there actually a spot up for grabs, BYU wouldve been behind us too. We were #12 for all intents and purposes with ND at #11. They just didnt want to ruffle too many feathers by dropping BYU below us because nothing was actually at stake.

The AP poll moved Vandy back ahead of us. Yeah, that makes sense. Jesus.

We were behind vandy last week in the AP.

no movement.

2 voters moved us up. 10 pts behind them last week, 8 pts this week

You just lit that money on fire lol. No way Mateer survives the playoffs throwing 2 ints a game.

It’s a quarter of the amount I tip your mother. Ain’t no thing.

Because I think it's more likely that this CFP will have its highest ratings ever than its lowest.

The reality will probably be somewhere in the middle.

I’d say based on matchups it’s much worse.

Bullshit. It’s wins and losses.  That’s it.  Stop thinking so hard.  Texas had a 3 in the loss column. Don’t matter who they lost to. That’s it.

I think the second round should allow the 1-2-3 seeded teams to pick their opponents. Then follow the bracket system. Would be funny to see who picks who and create some more tension.

Trying to decide if I’m gonna go to this game.  Probably will.  Went to Oregon v OSU last year.

If you go to their forums, they honestly think the deck is always stacked against them.

They have no self awareness.

That's true of any fan base including this one.  Posters on here last night think there's a deliberate effort to keep Texas out of cfp....

That game is in Norman. You're thinking Indiana vs. OU/Bama? I'm happy a Big 10 team is going.

\Realistically speaking, there are only 2-4 teams every year that are actually good enough to win a natty.

Ohio State was #6 in the final CFP rankings just last year.

While I am gruntled to see ND finally get hosed (after decades of favoritism) I do wonder if this exclusion helps fix this system, which has now become as much of a farce as the prior beauty pageant.

part of me wishes JMU was out, so we can get Chesney here and working on recruiting/portal.  But the fact that we landed a CFP coach can’t be a bad thing.  I’ve liked what I’ve heard from him so far.

Simpson has turned into early season Arch.  That isn't something they can gameplay around.  That and Ryan Williams has disappeared this year.

Field needs to be increased to 16 next year.  Then either start the season a week earlier or start the playoff games the weekend after the field gets announced. Playoffs should be starting next weekend anyway. The only reason they don’t is because of Army/Navy, maybe the most overrated, overhyped sporting event in the history of sporting events. They can kick that shit off at 8am and have the playoff games kick off at 11am. Problem solved.

I have been following college sports for decades, and fans consistently posit that expansion of the field will solve these who  gets in, who gets left out arguments.  Whether it's March Madness, the CFP playoffs, or whatever, it never does.  It just shifts the argument to slightly less capable teams.

The selection crtiteria are the problem, not the number of teams.

I didn’t expect Miami in over ND but Duke winning probably changed that. Gotta get that ACC team in somehow!

If true, it's not just evidence that this committee is dumb, this is plain corruption.

Texas was a Nibblet away from not being able to accomplish that either. Not the best insult.

And OU cheated to beat Auburn and gets a home playoff game. It's about the W not how you got it.

BYU is dogshit and would be a bottom feeder in the SEC yet they are the second team out. Texas has BYU's out of conference schedule and we would be in and have a home playoff game.

ND: "But, but, Lou Holtz! But, but, Rudy! But, but, the natties we won wearing leather helmets! But, but, our NBC deal!"

The number in the field isn’t the problem. It’s the committee and their biases. And the fact the committee changes each year means a different set of biases and emphasis on criteria.

Vandy was behind us at 14 due to the head to head.
