I don't know what the fuck lists I ended up on, but I have gotten half-a-dozen Medicare/whatever calls just today and a shitload in the last week, and it's all Indian dudes and dudettes named David, Mark, John, Tom, Tammy, Susan, Jane, Sarah, Lisa, Amy, etc. (surprising very few AI for whatever reason) saying that they've received my information and I'm eligible for this or they need to make sure the information is correct or whatever.  Thankfully my phone is marking most as spam, although I've been letting my kids answer the phone and try to tell them about the wonders of Minecraft or Bluey.  I've also occasionally answered with "Excuse Me Sir, Do You Have a Moment to Talk About Jesus Christ? No sir, my medical care is not more important, it's your relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that is on the line here!"

These people are probably scamming a shitload of seniors, but hopefully more and more are getting marked as spam.

no. But I’m getting lots of texts from people who have reviewed my resume from various sources - and they all think I would be ideal to work for them. It apparently entails an hour of work a day for which they’ll pay me $9000 a month. Seems legit… despite me not having a resume and all.

Lately I've been getting a shitload of spam calls from a 424-287-XXXX numbers (I don't know anyone in Los Angeles), but they either don't speak at all or speak such broken English I can't understand them.

My default rule is every email, text, and call is a scam and I never answer any of them (or open attachments) unless I'm certain I know who they are.

Working at a retail business I get regular calls that caller ID shows as local.  Same female voice on every one says it is Google checking for location accuracy, press 1 or 2 to confirm or deny, neither of which has any response. Dialing back the caller number shown results in dead air.  The idea that someone can call from a nonexistent untraceable number shows what a piece of crap our communication system has become.

For some reason, I've received a boatload of texts over the last week or so, spelling my name correctly, and telling me I've been approved for $40,000 or so whatever loan and they want me to call in and finalize it.

I finally replied with a get fucked text, and within seconds, received a "you have been removed yada yada" text.

The total amount of nuisance texts I have forwarded to the SPAM link so far is at 165 different numbers.  Appears to be helping as frequency is down.   FWIW, contact with Amazon often seems to trigger large amounts of spam and robo calls.

What I think should be a death penalty offense is spoofing numbers to look like it comes from a legit (and maybe important) source.  E.g., this morning, I got a call that showed it was coming from S. Austin Medical Center.  I don't know if one of my doctors is now affiliated with them (seriously, shit like that changes monthly), or someone I know is being treated there, so I answer.....it's some scam offering two free hotel nights if I listen to some sales pitch or some shit.

My other joy is that 1) I am the administrator of my father's estate, which includes two houses, and 2) I live in a part of town that was hammered by the windstorm a couple of months ago, so I get relentless calls 1) asking if I'm selling house A or B, and 2) we're offering free roof inspections in your area.

I actually do answer more of these than I otherwise should, because I have a crapload of client contacts who aren't already loaded in my phone, and I need to be responsive as hell when they call.  But goddamn, it's absurd.  The "do not call" list is an absolute fucking joke.  Shit, I'm pretty sure they use it as a "call these numbers" list.

Every single one of the medicare spam calls I get are spoofed from my cell phone #'s area code, where I haven't lived in like 20 years. It's hilarious.

Why are you answering numbers you don't know? That's what voicemail is for.

Because I'm my uncle's legal and medical power of attorney and he is not capable of handling bills, etc. so I'm having to take that over right now, and because I'm organizing some fundraising and sports stuff for my daughter's school, and so I'm getting all kinds of legitimate calls.  These spam calls are phone calls from the Austin area.

But as soon as I get that SE Asian voice, it's "DO YOU HAVE A MOMENT TO DISCUSS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST? THANK YOU BROTHER OR SISTER ABOUT YOUR CONCERN FOR MY HEALTH CARE, BUT I'M MORE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR SOUL CARE, WHAT DID YOU SAY YOUR NAME WAS AGAIN?"

I'm trying to figure out if I can get one of the online AI's to respond to one of these phone calls.  Kind of an automated version of the old flash soundboards from 20 years ago.

I got 8 of these calls this morning, which is fucking nuts.  Thankfully they aren't leaving voicemails.

I don’t want to miss that call from the Nigerian prince. That wire transfer still has hit my account.

Send them to Daisy. Fight AI and enshittification (or non-AI, don't make a shit) with AI enshittification.

Unfortunately looks to just be in England. Maybe there's a US equivalent.

Or maybe that's fake. I don't know. Should be a real use of AI though.

Probably not a good idea to send these scammers dick pics - but there’s nothing illegal about sending them a Geoduck image.

I downloaded a gay porn gif, and last election season, every time I got a text from someone asking me to vote for a GOP candidate, I replied with the gif.  Every once in a while, I got a reply that said I was unsubscribed from their list.

If it had been underage gay porn, you would have been ADDED to GOP fundraising lists.

This.

If they are important, they'll leave a message, otherwise they get blocked.

I get a spam call now about once every other week.  Fuck those motherfuckers, but gotdam, if they ain't in the contacts, I guess I'll have to risk losing the millions they were calling to offer...

I keep getting calls telling me that my loan has been approved for up to $40,000, but they just need a little more information.  I have been letting them go to voicemail and deleting them there, but I answered one yesterday.  (I was expecting a call from a medical number that isn't in my contacts.)  It wasn't a live person, just the same recording that they leave on the voicemail telling you the number to call back and finish getting scammed, I mean getting your totally legitimate loan.  I guess that if you call back they can argue that it's not a scam if you took positive action to contact them.

My parents are both gone now, so I guess that I just have to worry about my wife and me.  I'm pretty confident that I'll recognize scammers, but my wife?  Well, I'll just say that I'm concerned.
