Texas GOP seems to have the same playbook as Rafael Edward Cruz: Try too hard at being funny.

Seriously.  Everyone has known that completely awkward guy who tried to be funny, and every time....it was just sad.

That guy is the entire Texas GOP now, I guess.

Let's see....

Try to insult a candidate for office in Texas by:

referring to him as the #3 on the Whataburger menu

drawing attention to the fact that he was in a rock band when he was young

pointing out that he once wore a dress while a member of that band

I mean, I guess that's more complex than saying "Beto's a pretty cool dude -- you don't want anyone cool representing you in the Senate, do you?  Of course not -- avoid that risk, and vote for Cruz!"

I'm not a kid.  I'm nearly 50.  And everything they're pointing out about Beto at the MOST gets a shrug from me, and more often, gets a "well, there's a real person. We haven't had a real person in the Senate in a while, I think that'd be a good change."

I think it’s critical that these young voters vote early.

The young are much more likely than the olds to look at a long line on Election Day and say “fuck this I ain’t waiting 30 minutes to vote” and the leave without voting.

Yep. I was this way.

Samesies.

Beto is neat, I am digging him. I like him.

That said, I was with a bunch of peers this past weekend in an upper-middle-class suburb (not a tony one full of big monied people, just youngish professionals with young kids, mostly, until they trade up as they age) at a non-nondenominational church homegroup dinner. I tell you all that to give the context. Anyways, a bunch of these guys and gals, who are prime Beto demographic as far as age/hip-and-cool, were begrudgingly and sad about "having" to vote for Cruz over Beto because of some fundamental (gays and abortion) reasons. They'd much rather vote for the cool guy but don't want to be complicit in the degradation of culture/society. Just an anecdote to be sure, but it makes me wonder how many people are out there like that.

Personally I think that the culture wars are over and the water has dredged, so there isn't a worry about the "silent majority" who will begrudgingly vote for Cruz (like they did for Trump apparently) and that the Christians have lost Lewbowski.

Pretty much, except instead of Oakley's, the big hit was the guy who got some brand new Smith Chromapop's and we call passed them around and ooh'ed and ahh'ed.

Anecdotal, but two older members of my family, both white, female, and in their 60s, and both having voted for Trump/against Hillary, have said they are voting for Beto.  One, because she hates Ted Cruz for not standing to Trump up for his wife more, the other because she's never liked Cruz.

Again, anecdotal, but just odd as hell that both would openly tell me that.  I was expecting something along the lines of "I hate socialism, rawr! etc." parroting what Cruz says when he meets 50 people at the Lufkin Five-and-Dime.

I keep hearing about phonebankers and canvassers running across Trump supporters who claim they will either not vote for Cruz or even maybe vote for Beto because Ted Cruz is “a pussy”.

My mom is in that age group and voted for Trump. Typical level of casual racism for that age (build the wall, scapegoat the immigrants, etc), and is from the midwest and bought the whole pie in the sky bring the jobs back bit hook, line, and sinker. Also was on the lock her up train. Believes everything she reads on the web, which is a lot of fox and other propaganda. I love her, but she is a classic low info voter. We don't talk politics much because it's futile. To my surprise, she is really excited about Beto. I'm not even sure why, because I'm not sure she knows who Ted Cruz is. Maybe it's because of the Trump-Cruz feud during the campaign. Maybe it's just because he's not in power and she wants to stick it to the man. Who knows, but I'll take it.

Holy fuck that Texas GOP Twitter is getting owned.

They’re gasping for air. They’re getting KO’d and it’s only round one out of twelve.

I even read a few “republican” people saying that these smear campaign tactics are low and that they (gop) should be better than that.

I especially liked all the GOPer mug shot replies after they posted Betos.

They. Are. Desperate.

No, you had dinner with a bunch of morons.  Quit hanging out with morons. You have to be an absolute idiot to vote on abortion, because ain't nobody elected looking to change those laws, and you have to be a complete asshole to be against gay rights, because what the fuck is it to you if other people get to have the same rights you have?

And because of that ted Cruz is a Canadian who hates Tim Horton’s, a fake Texan who hates whataburger, and a republican who stabbed the orange god in the back at his very own convention.

The next big reveal is that while ted might be a Christian, he in fact really hates Jesus.

How this guy gets a single vote for anything is amazing.

The key word is probably "she".  I have a theory that Beto seems to do it for a lot of older ladies.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that any young professional who still is on the fence about gay rights is pretty firmly the opposite of Beto's target demographic.

If we are going to look at younger pics of Beto, just one look at a younger Ted Cruz should tell you everything.

I grew up in Mo City, but haven't that direction in a while. I thought it was being overrun by AZNs. Now, I am completely surrounded by exactly what you describe in The Woodlands/Magnolia.

Look, I don't go to the suburbs because they are the suburbs, so I just picked one out of a hat. Feel free to replace Missouri City with Cypress or some shit.
