In my fantasy world, I'd like to see him return zionist Adelsons' money. Then attack Cruz for his large AIPAC donations.

Texas Democrat James Talarico has built a national profile railing against GOP billionaires in politics — but has quietly accepted funds from a PAC backed by one of the wealthiest donors in the Republican Party. The single biggest donor to Talarico’s state House reelection bid last year was a group funded by casino mogul Miriam Adelson, according to state campaign finance data.

1.) billionaires own politicians in both parties, and I think thats bad

Also

2.) My largest donation came from a billionaire known for supporting GQP politics, but she's giving to me because she wants gambling in Texas.

Lulz. What a fraud. Next up

Off-topic, but I didn't realize Axios was dumb/right.  A couple of the media bias sites have it rated as truthful with a middle bias.

I don't read it real often, but what I have seen seems to fit that.

Also, Jonathan Swan's (second?) Trump interview was one of the better examples of someone standing up to the bullshit.

But, whatever.

Sex work is work.

Get a job and stop sucking up welfare!

No, one of the jobs from this list.

I'm not sure about them but I think this is more dumb than right wing based in early primary season. Of course the Republicans would love to face Allred so I guess it's possible they were involved.

But instinctively it feels more like typical holding Democrats to moral standards that the media never holds Republicans to. In this case, though, it's a huge swing and a miss by the media in thinking that a representative communicating with sex worker constituents is somehow immoral.

They used to be a lot less right-leaning, iirc

Counterpoint: these type of things will sometimes be leaked by the subject candidate around this time in an effort to innoculate him against the issue later.  It could be that Talarico's team saw that he's following a bunch of porn stars on the Gram and decided to get out ahead of it.  Had this come out two weeks before the primary . . . that'd be bad.  Two weeks before the general election--catastrophic because of the aforementioned reality that we hold Democrats to a ridiculously higher standard than we hold Republicans.

Let this come out a couple weeks before Thanksgiving, and it's completely forgotten by Christmas.  But if anyone tries to bring it up in February, it just gets dismissed as "old news" and Talarico's people would say "this came out months ago and nobody cares."

Axios is a seemingly-mainstream mouthpiece for Republican ratfuckers. If you have any media literacy, it’s not hard to tell that their political sources are almost all Republican operatives and they’re one of the GOP’s favorites for reporting “Dems in disarray” narratives.

From my feed, I get the sense Axios thinks what's-his-hair from Palantir is the new special boy life coach 2.0 rock star substitute all the cool kids should be listening to, but is gaining less traction than Musk in his heyday, who's fading into Saucy Jack era.

Certainly true, but the Plattner stuff has me thinking that even Dem voters are beginning to recognize that the perfect candidate doesn't exist, not that this particular issue with Talarico had any legs to begin with.

How dumb do you gotta be to take money from the woman who destroyed the Mavs?

Fuck off with this disingenuous bullshit.  She donated to every politician who she knew would be in favor or legalized casinos.  She gave Talarico’s campaign……wait for it….$59,000.  The horror.

I'm surprised it wasn't for $47,000.

He still may be the best candidate, I just think it's an interesting line of attack from Allred (as if he's clean on this front)

As the story clarifies, Allred has billionaire backers and neither candidate has pledged to decline funds from billionaire backed PACs for previous political campaigns.

Beto was the best chance to unseat any R in the state for senate. We are a lost cause. I’ll still vote of course. But no Dem can win in Texas now.

I don't think this is true. Things were not nearly as bad in 2018 as they are today. Abortion has been illegal in Texas long enough for a whole lot of voters who might not have previously cared to at least personally know someone who has been fucked over. A lot of people can't afford beef. A lot of people are going to see their insurance premiums double next month. Beto proved on a national stage that he's not that strong of a candidate. It's certainly possible that no democrat can win in Texas, but I like either Talarico or Crockett's chances a lot better than I ever liked Beto's.

It will depend on 1) how bad things get by then. What motivates people to vote is not good times but bad times 2) if it's a free and fair election

that's a big fucking "if" in a state like Texas.

Cornyn will just use the same old ads of Dems like open borders, woke, antifa, pro abolition and they’ll tax you until you’re poor. Plus, I’m endorsed by Trump. Then he’s in. Same o, same o. Works everytime. Only way a Dem is going to win is strong turnout. I really don’t think we’re any closer. It’s hard to get your hopes up.

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I'm a bit underwhelmed by Talarico in the first 30 minutes.  He's serving a lot of canned data points and anecdotes and I wish he'd do more to get to practical ideas.  I still like the guy and now I'm thinking the primary with Crockett will be a good test to sharpen the messaging.

SIAP, but this is infuriating (yet not surprising).  GOP operatives falsely inflated pro-Crockett polling to stroke her ego into running, in order to weaken the overall D chances against whoever ends up the R nominee.

Quote

Following the NRSC’s polls, other surveys began to include Crockett and showed similar results: She was surging in the primary.

The NRSC then worked to amplify those polls and is taking credit for helping “orchestrate the pile on of these polling numbers to really drive that news cycle and that narrative that Jasmine Crockett was surging in Texas,” the source said.

Crockett herself even admitted she was encouraged to jump into the race by all the positive polling she was seeing ahead of her announcement.

“The more I saw the poll results, I couldn’t ignore the trends that were clear,” Crockett said during her announcement speech.

Crockett did not return a request for comment.

But the Republican efforts didn’t stop there. In what the source dubbed an “AstroTurf recruitment process,” the NRSC had “allies that were seeding these new polls pretty aggressively into progressive digital spaces.”

There were several recruitment phone calls and text messages that went out to Democrats and high-propensity voters across the state that would urge voters to contact and advocate for Crockett to join the race, the source said.

“That was really a sustained effort that we orchestrated across the ecosystem for several months,” the source said. “Not only was it getting positive news coverage, but her office was directly having traffic driven to it in terms of phone calls urging her to run.”

It was posted either here or on the Crockett thread previously, and personally it’s pretty low on my personal GOP infuriation index.

If Talarico can’t beat Crockett in a primary he’s not getting past Paxton and same for her.

I think the bigger issue is that she's leaving a House seat to run for Senate, which means with the new maps, the GOP may pick up 1 more spot than they would.

Happy to eat my words on this if I’m wrong because I haven’t taken a look at the redrawn map in Dallas, but I doubt the GOP drew a map that a) would be intentional about flipping a black majority electorate district into a district more attainable by a Republican or b) look at Crockett in particular as someone they might want to get rid of.

I don’t think she’s high profile enough for the latter and more useful as a DPT boogeyman (errr..woman) to help rile up their base.
