this is outrageous

Are you saying that people in his socioeconomic class are all R’s?  That’s fucking “Rich.”

No. That's not what he said. Try again.

You think the Masters of Spin in the Democratic caucus will convince people otherwise?

No of course not. Democrats have no idea who the people who rely on SNAP and ACA subsidies are. They’ll talk to each other, they’ll talk to Republicans, and they will talk to The Groups. Under no circumstances will they manage to communicate with the actual human beings whose lives are impacted by all this.
But luckily for the Democrats, those people will mostly blame Republicans because the Republicans do talk to them and the consistent message has been that Republicans are in charge.

Indeed it wasn’t. The only outcomes were going to be who hurt the most. That was Republicans.   were you expecting Chuck fucking Schumer to extract some kind of policy win?

Btw- I love all these true believer progressive Democrats who are mad at their party leadership calling me a clown for getting understanding the play when I literally left the party over this shit a decade ago.

“The narrative” that will change literally zero votes. Yes. Democrats are pussies. Not news.  But they’ve wrung about all the political value out of this shutdown they can. Republicans lost the shutdown because it made them less popular. Democrats were already at their floor.

Maybe the real shutdown was the friends we made along the way.

Dude. Opposition parties can’t usually get anything. But they can throw sand in the gears and they did. They left a little on the table this time but basically accomplished what they could here.

If I was Schumer I would have held them together until the week of thanksgiving but all in all this wasn’t badly played.

The only dipshit agreeing with you is ana.  That’s all you need to know, dumbass.

Only democrats could get away this long with voting against funding SNAP benefits.

I called you a clown because your name is Bozo and you say dumb shit from time to time like tonight. I’m the farthest thing from a true believer progressive democrat. I’ve been voting for 25 years against all republican candidates. I even vote for the shittier third party crazies when the dems run no candidate (which is often where I live) just to vote against rank and file republicans.  All that said you can still be disappointed in the democrats terrible ineffectiveness when given any chance to be a real leader.

Honestly you’re not even anti republican, you’re anti democrat because they hurt you enough to leave the party. And your posts here show that time after time as you bash all the dems because they’re not good enough to you.

The narrative tomorrow will be Trump crowing about how the Dems finally came to their senses/etc... and they're letting that happen. If you weren't going to hold out until the GOP finally decided to negotiate more, then why even hold out to begin with? And now you're throwing away any and all leverage you have for the "promise" of a future vote... where you don't even have the votes to get it passed? I CANNOT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THIS IDIOCY

Correct. And yet they still get my vote by default because the GOP is far worse, and I have no misgivings about that and experience no inner turmoil or disappointment.

This is what a big tent is: a coalition of belligerents who can tolerate each other, accepting the enemy of your enemy as a friend. I can do that. Can you?

I flip friends votes fairly often. To do that all I have to do is convince them not to vote for people who haven’t done enough to keep their vote, which is mostly Republicans. I’m not trying to convince them to change anything about themselves

The democrats were playing Holdem, pulled two kings. Then a third on the flop and a fourth on the River. There’s no chance of a flush.

The GOP pushed all in after the election, and despite the fact the Dems knew they had the nuts, they folded.

The truly sad thing is that there's decent odds some of the Dems actually had that plan.  Shutdown just long enough to see if they can win some off-year elections, then immediately fold and assume the swing voters will continue blaming the Republicans.

If you vote in the Dem primary you get automatically registered as a Democrat. So, unless you have an incredibly strong reason for doing so, I would abstain from voting in the Democratic primary.

And look, that sucks in terms of policy.
But take heart- nobody expected the Democrats not to fold, especially not the swing voters. But the swing voters are the ones who are losing ACA subsidies and snap benefits, and by and large they do blame Republicans. Democrats folding won’t change their mind.

One question: will this version of the CR have enough votes in the House?

House just needs a simply majority, right?  Are the House Republicans stupid enough insist on the RIF and refuse to even hold a vote on healthcare when there's a 0% chance of it passing?

Texas is an open primary state. Registration isn’t a thing. You just can’t vote in both primaries. So most of these ex Republicans on here (in this forum, I mean) have been “Democrats” since they participated in Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” and voted/caucused for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 primary.
Our precinct caucus in HaysCo was Hilarious. I was an Obama precinct captain and everyone caucusing for Obama was like a regular Democrat.  The people caucusing for Clinton were like 1/3 regular Democrats, 1/3 well known Republicans and 1/3 ringers from out of state the Clinton campaign had bussed in and demanding to be recognized before they were physically ejected.

Taking stock of the situation:

1. most here knew, and loudly expressed as much, Schumer couldn't hold a long shutdown together. They were proven correct.

2. Democrats put a target on the backs of Republicans for the shutdown as well as exploding grocery and healthcare/insurance prices. Large cracks in the Republican rank and file on Epstein has now spread to healthcare costs (Orc MTG).

3. Republicans were happy to let everything expire without having to vote on it specifically. Now, all Republicans will have to go on record in a vote. They even have Trump out there tweeting about healthcare plans (lol)

4. The 2024 election was seemingly won on affordability and the party that is perceived as the "common man" champion (somehow it was Republicans). That is not the case any longer and Democrats had a good/great night at the polls, the first voting test since 2024. They look like the ones fighting for affordability and the working class.

John Shitty Brisket is late so he can say he cast the deciding vote to end the shutdown in his campaign ads.

And it’s not about flipping Rep to Dem, that’s not the point. It’s about convincing people who don’t vote that one group actually will help them while the other hurts them. All this does is continue to fuel the “both sides suck why should I vote” people to continue to not vote.
