How do you figure it's Gundy's fault on the NIL front?  Are you assuming he's not asking for the funding from the boosters?

He only ever bitched and complained about it and it is known that he was on the bad side of several donors because of some of his public statements and refusal to engage in fundraising efforts. If we make the right hire I think there will finally be alignment and funding will open up.

That ship has passed.   Schools now want a head coach who is fully vested into all things NIL and portal.  Gundy either couldn't or wouldn't get involved in such matters, plus his relations with boosters and fans over the past few years was just horrendous.

Coaches are always auditioning for their next gig.  Gundy's age + flunking his audition has doomed him.  He should have taken the Tennessee gig 10 years ago or so.

I figure he will end up on the Fox pregame show News.   FIFY

the reminds me of the corporate world in a lot of ways

you have a guy who built you up to where you are, he did a great job. he's getting old and lazy, resting on his laurels. times change, instead of him adapting he digs in his heel.

everyones thankful, but its not what the business needs to move forward. projects are stalled while trying to figure out what to do.

magically once that person is removed, things move forward. the old guy may be double bitter about every part of it, but no one wanted to toss more money onto something that wasn't working

There has to be some old posts on the Gundy thread where we definitely made fun of his anti-NIL side.  He bitched more than Dabo about it.

The HCs who bitch about NIL are the guys who don't wanna schmooze with the money and help fund-raise bc they think they're brilliant strategists. I'm glad Sark hasn't fallen into that trap yet. Of course, our guys do make it a helluva lot easier for him.

Not that far off. The GDP of DFW is 3-4x what Oklahoma's is as a state.

DFW is also twice the size of all of Oklahoma but yes, Dallas is one of the moneyed cities in America.  When I say Dallas, I mean real Dallas not fucking McKinney or Denton or some shit.

We were talking in the second half of our shit show v Louisville this past Saturday about the job Duzz is doing at Pitt.

I said last year that we completely pissed away the ACC championship in Kenny Pickett’s final season. It’s like we are sinking in quicksand with the revolving door of OCs and transfer QBs.

Duzz keeps striking out at both.

Someone mentioned that the buyout is $20,000,000. I am not sure if that is accurate but, he is not getting it done.

That SMU game was fucking ugly last season and y'all came in ranked. iirc Pitt carried that slide into the rest of the season.

That game is a perfect illustration of where I have issues with Duzz, and his staff. In that game our left tackle was making his first-ever start. Did we give him the help with a tight end, or an H-back? No, we left that kid hung out to dry against a defensive front that was extremely athletic and they beat his ass all day. For me, right now our offense is a “system”, come hell or high water, we are going to stay with “the system”. I am firmly on the side of adjusting your system to fit the roster, rather than trying to force a square piece into a circle hole.

The system is bigger than the roster and it should be the other way around.

I've said for years now; the state will postpone some rural bridge replacements or highway work in order to direct extra funding to LSU for athletics.

Any state that has pine trees, obviously.

No talk of Luke Fickell at Wisconsin?  15-15 overall, just lost to Maryland, and the schedule is BRUTAL. They could go 3-9.

Luke Fickell has a $25 million buyout that only goes down to $19 million at the end of next season. Either would be the biggest buyout in Big Ten history. UW can't afford to sack him.

Besides, they need to replace the AD who goes Fickell first.

Already fired coaches:

Okla State

Va Tech

UCLA

Likely fired:

Arky

Florida

Oregon State

Northwestern

Fired if they dont get to 10ish wins or make a run/look better:

LSU?

Michigan

USC

Baylor?

TCU?

Ive never seen 1) This many big name programs with possible openings 2) This many big name programs with likely vacancies THIS early in the season

Who else am I missing

Out of your first two categories, only Florida is a legit big name program. This is pretty normal for this point in the season.

It seems that LSU and USC have enormous buyouts and may be stuck. Florida is probably going to be the highest profile job opening this year. Second might be Auburn.
