Yep. My bingo card just fucking sucks. Didn't have "Police called in to calm out-of-control golf hooligans".

You stay classy out there on the links, 'Murica.

The World Cup is going to be a 500 alarm tire fire. Stephen Miller’s Gestapo raiding tailgate parties is going to be a national disgrace. Let alone fans and players trying to get in and out of the country for the tournament.

I am not quite where you are, but I do miss the days when we just did generic patriotic stuff at sporting events....you know...last year. Now the bullshit is starting to infest my sports bubble and yeah it fucking sucks.

Trump shows up at the Ryder Cup. Keegan Bradley does the Trump dance. Scheffler talks about how nice he is to everybody in the golf community. DeChambeau is Trump's BFF. Fuck this shit. Yeah, I play golf. I know the community as always been Republican/conservative. But fuck you. After Trump showed up, I spent all weekend cheering for Team Europe. Not because I dislike the American players, but because of what this country's leadership stands for now. The American fans are a fucking embarassment. I'm fucking ashamed.

Have to say that’s where I was on the RC. Always pulled for the home team especially when it was here but that was just such a bad touch in so many ways. I saw that the Euro players trolled Trump during their locker room celebration and I absolutely loved it.

And I know full well some MAGA morons are reading this and they’re contemplating saying to you/me/us that we’re “traitors.” Let me just save time for anyone who is contemplating that:

if you really think that exchange will have a happy ending for you, you’re either a bucktoothed fool or you really haven’t been paying attention.

I’m a Red Sox fan. If it can’t be the Sox then I’m pulling hard for the Blue Jays to win it all.

I finally quit on Longhorn football when they lined up tight formation on the goal line on fourth and goal and ran yet another QB sneak for no gain against Ohio State. I said fuck this bullshit, turned it off, and haven’t paid attention to it since. If Texas wins, great. If not, I don’t really care anymore. I had no idea we had a bye this past weekend. My life is better for it.

I won’t root for an American to win anything for the foreseeable future. If you fly an American flag, I just think you are a fascist asshole. The anthem pretty much makes me sick to my stomach now.

Fuck ‘em all.

I went to the Savannah Bananas game on Friday night in Houston.  After the game, one of the players got on the microphone and talked about how the goal of the Bananas is for all ages and all types of people to come together and have fun.  It's genuinely a wonderful idea, yet I looked around me and couldn't help but notice that likely 80%+ of the crowd (and 90%+ of the players) were almost assuredly MAGA and it made it hard to take the message seriously.

I don't know how to put Pandora back in her box, but god damnit I hate feeling this way about everything.

I think live music has been affected. Didn't Bad Bunny decide against an American tour because he feared ICE raids at his concerts?

I'm not a big fan but don't forget that the UFC is hosting a PPV on the grounds of the White House.

EDIT: If someone doesn't think that won't be a full-on Trump rally, they're crazy. You know that Trump's entrance will be nothing short of something you would see in the WWE.

Sure. But not quite the same as a months-long tour. I hope he uses the pub he's getting from the SB appearance to shed more light on why he didn't do that tour.

Yeah by February we may be at a point that just not saying something perceived as anti-Trump, isn't enough. You may have to thank President Trump as those in North Korea have to acknowledge Dear Leader at every turn or face the consequences.

Let's set this up correctly.

1. Trump and MAGA infiltrated sports. Politics and sports should not intertwine. But they made it happen.

2. Athletes/coaches being ignorant to politics is not a valid excuse anymore. The world is on fire. This country is on fire. Mass shootings weekly. ICE deportations. The economy sucks. We are in a psychological Civil War.  Tensions haven't been higher in American society in my almost 50 years on this planet.

3. Trump's "fake news" and turning the media into the enemy has amplified the assholeness that emanates from the sports world.

- Trump shows up at the Ryder Cup.

- Quinn Ewers wearing Trump stuff. Fuck you, man. You should know better.

- Detroit Tiger players doing a Trump dance on the field when he was in attendance. Fuck you. He'd deport half your ballclub if he could. I laughed at their long losing streak after.

- Coaches aggressively snapping at the media/reporters. Fuck you. Yeah, the media can be tedious and annoying. But act like a fucking professional. It's part of the gig.

- World Cup in America? Cool, fuck you. I hope it's a failure. Same with the Olympics.

EDIT: And how can I forget Portnoy and the Barstool Bros. Fuck you. DraftKings ads everywhere? Fuck you. Paul Finebaum might run for US Senate? Get the fuck out of here. Fuck you.

Right there with you man. I've got 52 years rooting for the Americans in everything hard-wired into my brain -- but I think it finally came to a head during the Ryder Cup on Friday and Saturday. Trump showing up and most of the US team openly slurping him off coupled with their disastrous play led into Saturday's bloodbath and ridiculous US crowd treatment of the Euros might've ended that. I was low-key rooting for the Euros on Sunday but equal parts enthralled by the US making an amazing run back from the brink. My wife openly screamed in joy in the house when Lowry's putt at 18 found the bottom of the cup.

At least I'll go out doing something I like with people who are cool. Thankfully most of "my" musical artists are woke liberals. Most of Hollywood that is worth a shit is too.

Another positive is that my all-time favorite pro franchise (SA Spurs) was basically built by Pop, one of the most "woke" dudes in sports.

Not sure what that has to do with him not having a U.S. tour due to fears ICE would be grabbing his fans. Or, do you think the crowd at the Super Bowl is going to be full of Bad Bunny fans that aren't here legally?

They still bring her up as an example when railing against trans athletes. They literally think she’s trans, and either disbelieve the proof and explanation that she isn’t or choose not to believe it, or their bubble is so impenetrable that they haven’t seen any mention of it.

something visceral happened when I was watching the Ryder cup in the background and trump came out. Before that I was begrudgingly rooting for our guys because USA. But 1) they are pretty unlikable already, but 2) their adulation of trump sickened me.

Add that to all those comics going to Riyadh, wwe moving wrestlemania to Saudi Arabia, and just all the shit going on in the world and the state of Texas and at the university. Everything is going the wrong direction and I'm the one taking crazy pills.

It's tough to fully compartmentalize any longer. I'm starting to just watch football games I don't care about and admire the athleticism. But even then you got to wade through all the fucking jingoism that's become dog whistles for trump supporters. It fucking sucks.

I went for my first Rangers game last week at the new ballpark.  I was completely unprepared for the "moment of silence for Charlie Kirk" followed by the SSB.  The "moment" went on for nearly a minute (felt like an hour), and I had to resist sparking a conversation with the wife lest I get thrown out.  Also, for the first time that I can ever recall, I did not put my hand over my heart for the SSB.  Just felt cheap and compulsory.

My own little protest.

I don't watch golf, so I don't know what happened there.

I watch about 110-120 MLB games per year, as much college football that is realistically possible and same with NFL.  I also watch college basketball.

My rules for watching, regardless of team, even if it is my favorite:

1. no pregame.  No fucks given.

2. no postgame.  Upon the final whistle, channel is changed or TV is turned off.  I don't want to hear what anyone has to say.

3. Halftime- muted or change to another game.  Time to grab a sammich or beer or fold clothes.  Anything besides listen to the talking heads.

4. Very little sports talk during the week.  I have listened to about an hour total of Colin Cowherd on the season, and he generally avoids the bullshit.

I couldn't tell you which games the alleged dignitaries have attended or refused.  I hope they stay away because it further disrupts things for the real fans.

Attending a game in person, I will always stand for the SSB and any prayer or moment of silence.  It's just how I'm wired.  I don't expect that from anyone else, and I respect that it's their deal too.  I will agree that at a certain point things feel much more "forced" than they used to.  I'm not sure what the answer is, but I definitely feel the vibe being discussed in the thread at live events.

Don't get me started on the Rangers playing "God Bless America" or "America the Beautiful" during the 7th Inning Stretch rather than the "Cotton Eyed Joe" or "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" like we did in the normal times. The Rangers are also the ONLY MLB team to not do a goddamn thing to honor LGBTQ+ during Pride Month.

Posted

I will also posit that I still stand for the other team's school song at high school games too.

Not everyone does.  I don't sit there and pray for lightning bolts to hit them.  It's a choice.  It's part of attending a game, IMHO.

Oh that was another thing.  Forgot about that.  I actually did comment on that.  They started with "God Bless America", and I said something like, "I miss Take Me Out To The Ballgame. Why can't they go back to that?"  And then they played it right after.  LOL

Dana White is almost as big of a piece of shit as Trump is.  He'll cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipe and swallow the gravy.

I haven't attended many Astros game in the last couple of years but they previously would play Take Me out the Ballpark followed by Deep in the Heart of Texas in the 7th inning stretch. Both of which can be fun songs to show people singing or dancing on the big screen.

The only exception would be God Bless America on Sunday game's 7th inning stretch. I guess there was some connection that since it's church day and the song had God in its title. Who knows, maybe they sing God Bless America every day now.

I've never understood the need to play the national anthem at sporting events. Except that now any team that didn't play it would be labeled as anti-American. Which makes zero sense. I find the song's main purpose at games is for those who want to virtue signal and don't get me started when someone goes after someone else for not removing their hat. Snowflakes who just want to get mad at someone.
