When does Texas get the first cool front this year? Hoping it will protect us from a late September/October hurricane.

Maybe not soon enough.

1. Showers and thunderstorms over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and
western Cuba, associated with a surface trough, are showing some
signs of organization. This system is forecast to move slowly
northwestward near the Yucatan Peninsula on Tuesday with limited
development. Upper-level winds are forecast to become more
conducive for development on Wednesday when the system moves over
the southern Gulf of Mexico, and a tropical depression could form
on Thursday or Friday while the disturbance moves across the
western Gulf of Mexico. Interests across northeastern Mexico and
the coast of Texas and Louisiana should monitor the progress of
this system. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall and gusty
winds are likely over western Cuba through Tuesday.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

I think Florence is heading to Hendersonville, NC.

I read this the other day and... nuthin'.  Oh well.

Looked at it for 2 seconds today and chuckled (and gave a like).  Brains - how do they work?

So far my area (10m NE of D.C.) isn't panicking - yet.  If Florence makes a N/NW turn around that big high sitting above it in the Atlantic (many time hurricanes curve around the circular edges of highs, they really like that) and shoots north just west of us, it could be a nail biter for me, doing work to fix up this house.  Nothing like a huge tree falling on the roof or otherwise fucking up the place. Yeah RIP mom still "has" house insurance for a bit longer, but don't want to go that route.

Otherwise I'm planning to take in the Temple-Maryland game in College Park this weekend - but not under 8 inches  - of rain, that is.  They'll probably cancel it is what I predict.

Got dammit this thing better behave.

Isaac tracking low, no guarantees, but it's acting like a Central American landfall storm.  Of course everyone (especially I) thought Harvey was gonna do that and blew it off.

That possible X is gonna fuck up the Yucatan.

No doubt.  Just saying that mass evacuation orders never go well.

True, good thing it's the end of the season.  Guys who live  here on the Outer Banks are figuring once they leave (mandatory evac. for visitors tomorrow morning @ 7:00)  It'll be 2+ weeks before they're allowed back on the island, and anyone who stays here could be confined to their homes and not allowed outside their property for up to 2 weeks.

Florence gonna likely make landfall as 4. Storm surge could get above 20 ft in some places.

And a LOT of that coastline is really low lying.  Yikes.  And she is expect to hit the brakes when she makes landfall.  The rainfall totals could be historic.

Keeping a close eye on this bitch Florence.

I’m supposed to be heading to Savannah on Friday for a conference. It’s still a go as of now but even if it makes landfall north of there, I’m sure travel to anywhere along the coast is going to be a nightmare.

Thanks to the smarty pants weather folks in this thread for the information. It’s much appreciated!

So....I'm seeing that we'll be playing USC during a tropical storm?

That should be fun.

And as a side benefit, it gives Herman and the Horns another excuse for a sure-to-be-shitty performance.

Can't believe I'm going to this one, but what the hell, been a long time since I've been out in a tropical storm.

even if it goes north, travel is going to be a cluster fuck. you are guaranteed to have one or both of your flights massively delayed or canceled.
