I said it in the vandy game thread but Collin Simmons is a problem for refs. Michigan held him pretty much all game. Can’t call it every down which sucks for us. Penalty stats are useless because they’re subjective and bias. Each ref sees a penalty different whether it’s holding or PI. Only thing I pay attention to is holding on both sides. If they call it even or don’t call it either way that’s what I’m looking for. Yesterday holding calls were 6-0 against us going into 4th qr. that’s the bias and bullshit. Makes us undisciplined but really they just weren’t calling it even.

The good thing about Simmons is he draws the chips and doubles. That allows the other end to get loose and play above their head. Simmons is why 2025 Ethan Burke happens, and Simmons still gets off 11 sacks and 16 tackles for loss.

I had to go back and listen to the broadcast, because in real time, I thought, "There's no way he said what I think he just said."

With 6:15 to go in 4th quarter, they show the turf rash on Arch's hip, and one of those bozos remarked that it was going to hurt to take a shower, and the other one says, "You can't just rub some Robitussin on it?"

Maybe I’m being over-dramatic, but yesterday’s game was the first time in a long time where I felt like our QB put on a cape and willed his team to victory. I guess the MSU game was similar, but Arch wasn’t able to finish it . . . and they’re not exactly a premier program like Michigan. Really looking forward to next year.

I don’t traverse the sec universe at large, but if we are in a grown up conference now then the other grown ups will see us much differently than our previous partners, bar aggy of course.

Two legendary programs. We (and Michigan) sort of learned what it feels like when somebody like Michigan or Texas roll into town to play a non-blue blood. The win carries prestige beyond other games.

I thought I saw that on the field from both teams. Until it got a little chippy towards the end, I felt like I was seeing respect on the playing field. Sideline clowning ain't shit.

Has the SEC won a national title since they brought on Texas?

I can root for a team or against a team….or both at the same time.

Really don't like Mark Jones, but that was a nice Chris Rock reference.

This is quite an example of "fine writing." Has somebody changed the grammar rules for quote marks (yellow)?

stephen-colbert-air-quotes.gif

He may use them correctly once to show scorn for "top team" although the Wolverines are ranked in the top 20. The rest? Putting quotes on a pronoun is particularly bold.

Then I noticed the use of ellipses (blue). I bet he's revered as a smart guy in College Station, but is insufferable for anyone else to listen to for even a moment...

They are a “top-tier” University.

NIL has democratized CFB, the SEC bag game with tOSU and a few ACC teams no longer dominates. Now it’s which program’s billionaires will pony up enough cash. When $500,000 payments became legal and $50,000 bags became irrelevant, it created an even playing field for those with resources while leaving some southern programs behind.

I hate Mark Jones almost as much as Beth Mowins. In fact I may like her more. He is such a beating. He loves to throw in several big words that you can tell he’s been rehearsing that week.

Glad I turned the audio off and listened to Craig. His call on that play was pure gold. “Say goodnight to it - Arch Manning with a DAGGER!”

He's like the Don Lemon of sports announcing.

I'm sure it's been discussed ad nauseum here, but I've been busy. On the surprise snap that cost us 20+ yards and at least 3 points, we were pissed not about a missed timeout, but rather Michigan's simulating the snap with clapping, correct? Seemed obvious from just watching the coaches and players but broadcast clowns were looking for an attempted TO call.

That was my thought watching the broadcast.

Yes. The announcers (and the refs who didn’t call it) were idiots.

He said this after a slam dunk in a ‘90s college basketball game and I’ve never forgiven him.

Buyer’s remorse?

On the Arch run where he got the road rush, the announcer said something like “he only had Trey Weisner in the backfield to block for him…” Huh?

I said it on the Arch thread but will say it again. Arch is a generational QB. His early season struggles are primarily the fault of poor OL and play calling. Arch came more into control of the game as the season and play calling altered and his confidence grew. I thought he did the same thing against aggie and Vandy, but I agree that once he started firing, this game never felt in question. I actually texted a friend that "Arch is driving the bus, we are winning 100%" midway through the 2nd with the Endries TD. It was a very VY sort of feeling, it was very nice.

No. We don’t give a shit about the conference. I hope they all lose all their games.

I said it was a feeling similar to his time here. I did NOT say he was VY. I think it perfectly reasonable to acknowledge that for the first time in 20 fucking years I had absolute and complete confidence in a QB to win a game. Yes, sometime I felt it with Colt, hell even some with James Brown. However, that feeling of confidence has been missing for 2 decades. I'm not saying he is VY, but it's nice to actually feel that level of confidence. So to sooth your concerns let me help. Unlike VY who I knew would overcome the issues of MB and GDGD. I said so to a friend post game after beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Unfortunately, I do NOT believe Arch can overcome the ineptitude that is The Sarkisian Effect for an entire season. I hope I'm wrong.

Feel better now?

The first part might end up being correct but let’s not totally change the story on the second part. It definitely played a part but he had the yips and something going on in his head, he was throwing seven yard quick passes at receivers feet or two yards over their heads. He got past that and I fully expect a great season for him next year if we get the right offensive parts around him.

Yeah he shoulders some blame for the early season play. Kudos to him getting more comfortable and crushing the back half of the season. 25 TD total, 2 picks

Bro, that wasn't just directed at you. I've been seeing a lot of that and it's a little irresponsible considering I think VY is the greatest college QB to ever lace them up. That dude was superman out there. Closest comparison to that was Vick almost willing VTech past Florida State.

Well bro, you responded to me so...

I do get your bigger point though. There is VY then... well... I don't know of any other QB who went full, I'm doing this, you can't stop me.

You've been consistently shitting on Arch every chance you get since OSU. There is no opportunity for meaningful engagement as you refuse to acknowledge some realities about our team and coach. The OL was beyond bad to start the season and Sark created a game plan that made those issues notably worse for a 1st year starting QB. Yes, Arch was the player making the mistakes but his HC, OC, OL coach, OL, WRs and RBs did everything possible to make it as bad as possible.

I did respond to you. Probably because I find you to be the most reasonable, logical, and approachable of the ones I saw doing it. I would surely not approach the one that shall not be named. Lol.

No one is shitting on Arch at this point or much at all since he turned the corner. You can’t just ignore the fact that he was pretty terrible at the throwing part of being a quarterback at the start of the season. Game planning is tough when your quarterback is throwing errant passes left and right. Also dumb ass shit off-season crap to argue about at this point.
