Of course this is a good thing.  Don't see why there's shame in this.  A triple digit oil would have crushed the world and we may have avoided it.

That didn't stop us previously. I was seriously worried that's what was going to happen. That I was going to head out Sunday morning and overnight the price of a gallon of gas was over 4 bucks. I have seen spikes happen and it flat out sucks. It's not great for the overall economy when it goes negative either. There is so much about the market that rides purely on vibes. What's the quote? The market can be irrational longer than your bank account can stand it. That's not it, but it's the gist of it.

The idiot in chief was lucky to have had his little show of force and so far has only further cemented his dumbassery. It was a risky move that didn't accomplish jack shit except scare me and rile up the hardliners over there.

And hopefully you understand that position is part of the propaganda we have been fed.  The translations are frequently in the most inflammatory ways possible.  Anyone remember Ahmadinejad's "wipe Israel of the map"?  He wanted to blow them up, right?  But it's not a Farsi idiom.  Per wikipedia

And that's not some super-radical idea.  Many countries do not recognize Israel (the government that is in charge of the land) has the right to exist.  That doesn't mean they have expressed a desire to nuke the land and the people.  Nuking Israel doesn't free Palestine or Jerusalem, it just destroys them.  It serves no purpose.  It makes no sense.  It is not something Iran is threatening to do.  In order to believe that is Iran's plan, you have to have already decided Iran's decisions are completely illogical and suicidal.

*Sidenote: Ahmadinejad is probably the worst, total shitstain fucker they've had as President in the last 25 years.  He said plenty of dumb, terrible inflammatory shit, including questioning the Holocaust.  But he never said anything to indicate he would nuke Israel given the opportunity.  It's also worth noting he was elected after we invaded Iraq and were on their doorstep.  We always push them to stupid fuckers like him.

It also bears repeating that not only is “wiped off the map” not an expression in Farsi and not at all what Ahmadinejad said, he wasn’t even using his own words. He was quoting Khomenei from a speech he gave in 1979

You are right. It's like in a board game when you roll a 5 and then move 5 spaces but then land on a go back 5 spaces, so ultimately you end up exactly where you were. There is no tangible or material difference I guess, you are arguing. I think the jury is still out on that, but you are probably right.

However, I think there is a psychological accomplishment. Iran has been talking crazy smack for decades now. They build up proxies to be their little footsoliders and thought they'd be able to sit back and threaten indefinitely. They've been exposed as bullies who talk loud but can't back it up. Like you do with bullies, Iran got punched in the face and their little friends are done.

And for what? A day's worth of work for the military and a reminder to the misfit countries (again, the only countries to come out and publicly rebuke us for this is China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea) about American military might.

Just because we can't get along very well with each other domestically doesn't mean we can't still put the fear of death in anyone on this planet in any location, even if you are 400 feet deep under a mountain.

Holy shit.  You think Iran was the bully in this?  You think Iran is the crazy murderous state in the region?  Wow.

Currently reading mark espers memoir, irans attack today is a near copy of their 20’s response. Essentially just theater with very detail and advanced warning so the US knows not to raze the country. It allows them to save face.

Where it will be interesting is to see how Trump team frames things. They were VERY quick in 20 to claim zero casualties and essentially zero injured/damage. only to find over 100 troops were flown to Europe for traumatic brain injury (which according to esper, trump essentially called them pussies)

Troops should have claimed ptbs—post traumatic bone spurs.

I've been told repeatedly that history didn't start on 10/7.

Right.  Thus my question.  But never mind.

Iran is always on the "wrong side" of American interests, and unabashedly and vocally in a way that their mouths were writing checks their butts couldn't cash-- you know, a "bully".

Terrorism:

- Hamas existed because of Iran

- Palastinian Islamic Jihad existed because of Iran

- Hezbollah existed because of Iran

- The Anti-American insurgency post-Iraq war existed because of Iran

- Houthi terrorists existed because of Iran

- Piracy on the high waters and oil tanker attacks exist due to Iran

- 10/7 happens because of Iran

Not only that, but Iran was a coward (as all bullies truly are deep down). Always avoiding directly doing anything but having their minions do their dirty work. And like all bullies, when punched in the nose, the truth is they are weak and cowards and projecting their insecurities. Iran has comported itself very poorly since 10/7 and should be shamed.

I  wonder why.

Because we live in a world of scarcity and vie for the same resources and our competition uses a fundementally similiar tactic (e.g. an overarching worldview) but in super different deployments and use cases.

That all presupposes that America isn’t/cannot be the bully. That would be a foolish belief

I'm on record as saying I believe we have trended back to a "might is right" global governance, having moved away from multi-cultural and globalist alignments. I have no problem assigning the label bully to "America" as well.

I think the difference is America will talk the talk and walk the walk. Bullies like Iran will talk the talk and....well...it didn't end well for them. They have the spirit and the chutzpah  but they don't have the resources and talent. Not a blue blood.

Well, at least some good can come out of this -- clearing up Ahmadinejad's good name.

Yeah, well, since WWII ended, we aren't exactly batting 1.000.

Basically nothing you said here was correct. Literally every group you mentioned here began as a reflex response to something fucked up the US or Israel did, save for the Houthis who have much more beef with Saudi Arabia than they do with us.

And again, there are so many factors that led to 10/7 and Iran is a fair ways down on the list.

Absolutely ridiculous statement.  Hamas caused 10/7 and Iran is the leading supporter of Hamas in terms of funds and weapons.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) worked with Hamas to plan its 7 October 2023 surprise attack on southern Israel and gave the green light for Hamas to launch the assault on a meeting in Beirut on 2 October. In the Hamas-led attack, Palestinian militants killed 1,200 Israelis, primarily civilians, and took around 200 Israeli civilians and soldiers hostage.[24] In the weeks leading up to the attack, some 500 fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad received training in Iran, under the guidance of the IRGC Quds Force.[25]

According to The Washington Post, the attack occurred "with key support from [Iran] who provided military training and logistical help as well as tens of millions of dollars for weapons."[5] According to The New York Times, Internal documents indicate that Hamas sought to persuade Iran and Hezbollah to participate in its attacks.[26][27] The group deferred the assault from an initial 2022 plan, aiming to secure regional backing. Although Iran and Hezbollah offered support, they were unprepared for direct involvement, prompting Hamas to proceed independently.[26][27]

So second down the list.  If you are lowballing Iranian involvement.

These terrorists groups don't exist without resources; money, munitions, and political cover. Iran gave them these in spades.

Alone without Iran these groups are but sparks and flames. Iran was the immense oxygen that fanned the flames.

That's not a scarcity issue. That's a corruption and greed issue.

Humans are operating on biological hardware that cannot handle our level of technology. The faster technology grows and changes the worse off most humans are. It would be centuries before we could even hope to catching up to our lack of scarcity of resources.

The US is one of the world's most destructive and greedy actors. Giving small handouts here and there (which trump stopped) wasn't making up for all the horror the US causes around the world, especially in the Americas. The US and Russia are the 2 principle global "bad guys" since 1945. We have had our hand in almost everything.

Just look at 2001 to 2025 alone and we're the kings of destruction.

Don’t forget they are fighting us with disinformation and hacking. It cost a hell of a lot less to put 500 Russians in a warehouse managing bots and shit posting than it does to build a B-2.

That's a great point. While Americans are focused on physical military might in the conventional sense, which makes sense as that's what the US uses most of it's money on, the real war the US is losing is the information and psy-ops war. We're getting destroyed so badly in the information war we have a US government administration actively destroying the country on multiple fronts.

Enemies like Russia have exploited the sizable low information, low education, ignorant population in the US to such an extreme we are rendered defenseless against it. It's worked so well there's absolutely no conceivable way to reverse it and repair ourselves. They've trained the ignorant to embrace their own demise and destruction by believing it's a form of "winning".

It all started when the rich decided to pillage America for it's wealth at the expense of the well-being of the common American. They dumbed down Americans so they can't notice who is raiding their pockets. All the Russians and other countries did was recognize this vulnerability created by the American wealthy. Once the technology arrived in the late 2000's it became feasible to exploit it to destroy America socially and economically. All while people like Immamac and Vegas "ohh and ahh" fawning over B2's blowing up mostly empty buildings with excessively expensive munitions which achieved nothing.

Not only is it still a world of scarcity, but it's about to get a lot more scarce when AI's appetite is full grown. That's the whole other thread though.
