  4. This is probably more info for another well known thread. I’ve had the heat set on 73 all day to help keep the pipes warm. Earlier the lady decided to clean her sons room while he is at his dads house. I helped her pull the bedding and start washing it and went about my business. Two hours goes by and I am noticing it get cooler and cooler very rapidly. So I bump the thermostat to 75. Still getting cooler. A few minutes ago the last of the bedding from the boys bed is dry so I go to take it into the room. Open the door and it is COLD. The window is OPEN! ”I just wanted to let some fresh air in”

  10. JFC, one of our players gets in a car accident and he gets called stupid and hard to tolerate by posters without any info at all. Fuck off with this shit. Sorry his existence triggers you so much. He got into an accident and thankfully it looks like he’s ok. If you don’t care about that fine but maybe sit out bringing in your own bullshit that has nothing to do with anything.

  11. Had some bacon lying around as men do. Cooked it. Had some leftover chili. Cooked it in the bacon fat. Added some eggs. Why? Because I live in a country that put a man on the moon and invented the gloryhole. For those of you who have sons...show them this when they are ready to become men.

  14. If you have bored children, we used to take advantage of the cold weather to do some neat science related activities. We're a nerdy family that way, but it was fun when they were smaller and we all enjoyed the time together. Plus, cold weather and outdoor time wears them out; always a plus. Blowing bubbles outside in freezing weather either with solution you have on hand or google a homemade one. Out in Amarillo, if you have a banana those temps may be cold enough to do the freeze a banana into a hammer trick (in hs they always use liquid nitro, which has the speed and wow factor) but the other way is cheaper and safer for younger kids. My youngest liked to take his little 'mensies' (plastic army men, I have no idea why he called them 'mensies' ) and place them in various empty containers he filled with water then set outside to freeze like little Han Solo people. He would then get the ice out of the container and set the frozen blocks in various places on the patio. As a teen, he still takes some ribbing about that one. They often float, but I can't remember how he got them to stay submerged but I do know that kept him busy for quite awhile figuring it out. Blow up a balloon indoors, tie it with a knot and then (I put it on a string so it doesn't blow away) put it outside, watch it deflate, then bring it back inside to inflate again. If you have some food coloring handy, find an area with there is some ice built up (hopefully not from frozen pipes that have burst) and add some to the top. As the temps warm back up, watch the food coloring in the melting ice as it forms ravines. The little ones like the colors, but the older ones can observe all sorts of things. It doesn't get super cold here, but when we lived in Wisconsin we used to do the trick where you toss the water in the air to watch it freeze before it hits the ground but that one you have to be really careful with if you do it with boiling water (google it for the best way) and definitely needs adult supervision. Keep it fun, keep it safe, keep the memories. Science!

  18. I watched just about the whole thing. It was like watching Texas destroy Colorado in the 1995 Conference Championship game except Texas was declared the loser because of the unnecessary roughness call. The only difference was, a lot of people thought this would likely happen. Snacks and McConnel are easily beaten back by evidence presented by the brilliance of the house managers. One bit of evidence: in the times of the Founders, all actual impeachments involved persons having left office. Second bit of evidence: John Quincy Adams stated that he considered himself a possible subject of impeachment so long as he live. There was much more. A person should have listened to more than the arch-cynic, -liar, -traitor, Mitch McConnel. The house managers' oratory and command of their case was beautiful and interesting to watch. Their arguments were not in the least diminished by the scorn, theatrics, occasional incompetence, and disingenuousness of the defense. To watch all of it is to fully appreciate just how shameless those who voted not guilty are. Not only shameless, but completely unconcerned about the fate of the republic when held against their own fates as office holders. This was an attempt to overthrow the institutions of US government. This was a murderous act organized by the kind of person we facilely label as a "madman" in totalitarian states. A final time: Schiff is a great man. He took on an even more difficult attempt to preserve the republic which came to inevitable failure. He was the shining beacon on a hill trying to warn the republic to steer away from the shoals and fatal reefs. He is Cassandra who saw the future but whom no person would believe. As the rocks shatter the hull, it will be bitter for him and us to take satisfaction in having been proven correct. My lifetime likely won't be long enough to see the final fall. If I'm possessed of my faculties many years from now as death approaches, I'll be sad to be the begginning of the end of living memory of a democratic America. I have no children, but I will lament for the generations left with this broken, selfish, self-destructive country.

  26. We have a large flood easement behind our house that goes all the way down to a creek bottom, heavily wooded. A fair number of dead oaks from the 2011 drought. So, the boy and I just took the chainsaw and cut a shitload of wood in the creek bottom (figure the more heat we get from the fireplace, the less power we’ll draw from the grid). Then we had to carry it in a dozen loads up all the way to the house, with ice covering everything, lots of flat stone to walk on. We had to wear yaktrax (we have them for Canada visits) for grip to keep from falling - they were money. Light snow falling on us most of the time, but we still worked up a sweat. Then, some of the logs we cut were really big. So we spent a while splitting a buncha wood with an old axe. We now have a shitton of wood stacked up in the garage. We could be manlier, but I'm not sure how. Who knows, we may go shoot a moose later.

  29. October 17th, 1964 - Memorial Stadium: Defending National Champion #1 Texas playing #8 Arkysaws Pigs, with 1:27 left in the 4th after Ernie Koy scored on a 1 yard run to bring the Horns up to 13-14, then an easy 2 point conversion pass from Marvin Kristynik to Hix Green hit the turf about 2 or 3 yards short of his hands at the goal line. After that excruciating defeat to the despised mouth-breathing pigs, UT went the rest of the season without losing another game, wound up ranked #5, and defeated #1 Alabama & Joe Namath 21-17 in the Orange Bowl. Final ranking was #5, a monumental letdown after the Great 1963 National Championship team. Texas went on to three straight 6-4 seasons, which caused a lot of doubts & dissatisfaction with DKR until he turned it around in ‘68 with the introduction of Emory Bellard’s innovative Wishbone Offense.

  31. I've seen lots of bad losses, been at some crushing ones but the thing is while it hurts there is tomorrow to improve. That would make my most heartbreaking moment January 5, 2006. I woke up very sleepy and hungover in West Hollywood and as I sat there basking in the glory of what I witnessed the night before I realized very quickly as a 30 year old man at the time that I would never again experience something like that in my life. The confluence of being there, it being the first championship in my life, the undisputed quality of the teams, the undisputed quality of the venue, the way the actual event exceeded the over the top ridiculous expectations and of course the fact that we won. I realized sadly...I was there, that was amazing and it's never going to get better than this.

  32. So I was just watching Lindsey Graham on Fox this morning getting interviewed by Chris Wallace and based on his answers it may be time to designate the Republican Party as a terrorist organization because they are hell bent on destroying the United States. When asked by Wallace if he spoke with Trump since the impeachment, Lindsey said yes and he went on to say the party needs to move more towards MAGA and Trump is the greatest. When asked if Trump had anything to do with the riots he gave an absolute NO answer and when on to say they will be impeaching Kamala Harris in the future once they take back the House. He even threw McConnell under the bus for his speech after the impeachment saying Trump was responsible for January 6th. They will not stop with this MAGA movement and will continue towards the path of being a party that supports an autocratic government versus a Democracy. It sucks that the Dems are so weak as I fear they will do nothing but let the Republicans in the Senate obstruct progress for the next 2 years and then lose the Senate and the House without getting things done. This is the Dems chance to do what the Republicans have done and change the way the game is played (add PR and DC as states) to make sure the minority party in the country no longer rules over the majority.

  35. Dude, I generally like you as a contributor but if you’re saying Ewers is a system QB then you haven’t watched his highlights. Guys who do this for a living, at the college and nfl level, say he’s the best HS qb since Tevor Lawrence. He was injured AF in the playoffs and still played great. Just stop. He’s a stud, let’s not pretend otherwise.

  36. Fuck everyone in the senate. Trash american government for trash americans. If you are a longhorn and support this, you need to find another site. I'm done fucking around with this absolute garbage. Fuck every single person that supports insurrection against the United States of America. Seriously fuck you if you would have voted to acquit. Stop coming to the site. Stop pretending that you care about anything that actually matters. Caught dead to rights with an acquittal is the death of everything we hold dear in a democratic government. Fuck fuck fuck. I'm so mad.
