  1. It's always fascinating to me how smart people fuck up once, and people use it against them for all eternity, discrediting everything else they ever do because they were wrong that one time. Meanwhile, stupid people get to continue saying stupid shit after stupid shit, and it's never held against them.

  5. She will win 65% of the vote bc she’s a Republican and she’s a Huckabee. She will govern like a fatter, stupider Trump, embarrass the state and get re-elected in 2026 with 75% of the vote because Arkansas is full of fat fucking retards who vote Republican.

  8. Yesterday was a day filled with the entire emotional spectrum. We received our new puppies and the joy they brought us from the first time we saw them filled our hearts. Watching the brother and sister run around the yard playing put smiles on both of our faces. To know they will be our responsibility gives us both a sense of responsibility and purpose which being a good pet owner should have. Both of us have long term sobriety and they will never see us drunk nor want for anything in terms of their care. About an hour later, my daughter in law in California called and was crying hysterically. She was able to tell me that my son Clark was gone. I asked her what she meant, and the replied "He is dead. I can't wake him up, he is cold and not breathing. I called 911 and they are coming." Clark has been an addict since a teenager, been in treatment several times, and had never been able to overcome his clinically diagnosed depression. For the last six months he has been abusing nitrous oxide and slipping deeper and deeper into the abyss. His wife had to leave the house Friday night because he was off the rails and abusing her emotionally. When she returned on Saturday, he had died. This morning through my tears, I chaired the 7am zoom meeting for my group. I spent the better part of yesterday calling members of my group and telling him my son had died because without help, it is too much for us. God provided His angels yesterday through the phone and this morning at the meeting. Though my heart is broken, it shall be mended by the process of living life one day at a time, practicing the principles of recovery, and helping another alcoholic who is seeking a way out from under. I have learned that rather than drinking or doing other things to change my feelings, I can feel them instead, even when I wish I didn't have to. Clark is no longer suffering and is free from the bondage that kept him in pain for so long. The last words we said to each other this past Wednesday were "I love you and can't wait to see you again." Soon and very soon, this to shall be. One day at a time, very soon.

  14. Right, so in my youth I was in the first gulf war. I served my country, but I never really got the feeling that I served/protected my fellow citizens. I mean really? Were my friends, family and neighbors really in danger? Covid is different. Covid is local. Covid is fucked. I'm probably not in danger of death, but others are. And the economy is falling apart. I feel much different about the need to volunteer in this situation. This is got damn critical. I've had 4 friends and one family member dirt nap from this shit and I'm tired of doing nothing. I'm taking a leave of absence from my day job or will just quit if they say fuck you. I still have a part time night gig teaching at UT so we'll be fine. A little internet sleuthing found this article (https://www.kxan.com/news/coronavirus/hospitalizations/volunteer-group-of-ut-austin-students-faculty-and-graduates-ready-to-fill-medical-staffing-shortages/) about The University of Texas Medical Reserve Corps stepping up to help with vaccine delivery. I'm not a medical person but they take non-medical surly bastards like me. To sign up, you have to join The Texas Disaster Volunteer Registry (https://www.texasdisastervolunteerregistry.org) and then select the Medical Reserve Corps in your area. I'm a 5 minute walk to campus so UTMRC is now my org. Like all .gov websites, it's unclear about next steps beyond UTMRC contacting me in the next couple of days about being assigned to a local mission. Until then, I see there are some courses to take so I'm jumping in to learn the lingo and command structure. I'll keep y'all updated. Aye aye fuck it.

  17. Let’s break this idiocy down. She explicitly sets out to explain the origin of a famous cliche, and then proudly explains only its meaning. Which was never in doubt. She rattles off a bunch of dates that are ultimately irrelevant to her point (and I use that term very generously). She claims the Bill of Rights is “the first ten or so articles of the Constitution.” I can’t even with this lady. The original, unamended constitution is organized into seven articles and none of them are part of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments. She then betrays how little she knows about the Constitution substantively, by claiming that it gave power to the people. That is completely backwards. The Constitution explicitly grants certain, limited powers to a new federal government. The Bill of Rights clarifies some limits on the government’s powers (what we call “rights”). She claims that President Trump “signed the Insurrection Act.” WRONG. That law was passed in 1807 and signed by Jefferson. Even if Trump had used his powers under the Act, it would not have resulted in the dissolution of the Biden administration, as this woman seems to believe. Tl;dr - We need a better public school system in this country.

  25. It really is something how after the trump admin did nothing to combat the virus, and pushed disinformation that intensified the pandemic, you target Fauci as the wrongdoer. You're right, it's not debatable but here you are making ted cruz level intellectually dishonest troll posts anyways.

  32. His unit (Combat Command B of the 14th Tank battalion) happened upon a bridge at Remagen a couple months later that was not completely destroyed by the Germans. They hoped to use the Rhine river as a defensive barrier. His tank “Blondie” was one of the first tanks over that bridge into Germany. He walked in front of his tank in the dark, guiding it around holes in the bridge floor, while snipers pinged away at them. He said the German counter-attacks to retake the bridge and destroy it was worse fighting than the Bulge battle the previous December. Amazing he made it home.
