It is wild how great of a point you think this is. I can find no other explanation for why you continue to say it despite the fact that it's an absolutely terrible argument. It makes no sense whatsoever, it doesn't advance your overall position at all, and it is at its core completely juvenile in terms of its outlook on the world. Essentially what you're saying is "I admire women because they can do this thing I can't do so therefore we should require them to do that thing." Your argument isn't powerful at all like you seem to think it is, it's actually bewildering. Even from a general perspective, its basis is illogical. Being able to do something that half of nearly every mammalian species on the planet can do in one way or another isn't actually awesome or impressive. Just an awesome pants-shitting performance by a usually intelligent poster.17 points

Awesome. So I presume that you also support things like mandatory paid maternity leave for every single job, government-funded childcare (so mom can work and support herself and her kid), government-funded childcare (I listed it twice, as we also need it so mom can get a college degree and make a good living)? I mean, just for starters. The "pro-life" crew is fucking GUNG-HO about imposing the obligation of carrying a child to term and raising it on women, but is a HARD NO on doing the things that would allow women to do that without losing their jobs, education prospects, etc. Remember, the cruelty is the point.12 points

That.....is complete and utter bullshit. A significant percentage - I suspect a large majority - of people who believe that abortion should remain legal ALSO strongly believe that we should have 1) real-world sex education and 2) readily available, free/cheap contraception. Both of which would dramatically reduce abortions. It’s absolutely political posturing....on the mis-named “pro life” side (most of those same folks love them some executions, and don’t give a rat’s ass about a human life once it’s born, and especially if it is brown and literally running for its life - Catholics excepted, they are actually morally consistent). The rest of us would largely like it to be, yep, safe, legal, and rare. Which we might get, if we had real sex ed and contraception.12 points

The people who would require one life to incubate and be subject to another (against their will) for almost a year are largely the same people who can’t even manage to wear a piece of fabric over their faces without throwing a tantrum.12 points

Go fuck yourself. We live in a country where sex education teaches abstinence rather than protection, and birth control isn’t readily available to everyone at a cheap or reduced cost. Without a woman’s ability to control her body completely, she becomes a second class citizen.11 points

I think it's time for an intermission on the abortion talk to put this here as another classic reminder why this guy is a monumental fuckwad. Among many other things: 1. "There's this place named Franklin's." 2. "The most important thing about BBQ is sauce. If you don't have the sauce right, I don't think it works." This guy had to have gotten his ass kicked in high school on a regular basis.9 points

thank you for this turn of phrase. again, as a woman that has chosen not to have a child despite having THIS AWESOME POWER...i have often pondered just how 'exceptional' it really is. billions and billions of women, since time began (literally), have this 'power' (not to mention every other species in the animal kingdom). juxtaposed with the 99.9999% of the same time period that women have been subjugated, abused, assaulted, denied basic civil rights, seen as 'less than', discriminated against in ways huge and small every day, in almost every culture in history, etc etc...and how some of that has only recently (w/in the perspective of all time) been addressed, and still only in certain parts of the world...i might argue that female empowerment does not originate in me producing a kid.9 points

As an avowed liberal, I would like to thank far right idiots for bringing critical race theory to my attention. If it weren’t for you fucking morons and your obsession with talking about it every single fucking day on every single fucking platform available, I never would have heard of critical race theory. And i still don’t know what it is or why I as a liberal apparently want to foist it upon our nation and indoctrinate school children into its teachings. Or policies. Or is it a method? Fuck if I know! But y’all dipshits seem to be really worked up about this CRT shit, so I have to assume either it’s a made-up bogeyman along the lines of satanic heavy metal subliminal messages, Antifa Capitol rioters, and pizza parlor sex dungeons or it’s a real thing that I should support. Because if y’all moronic dinguses are against it, it’s almost certainly good for humanity. So I think I’ll go read up on it tonight. Thanks y’all!9 points

I talked to a friend today about the recruiting happenings heading up to June. "Fucking nothing, man. There isn't much of anything going on anywhere and there won't be until June. June might be the craziest period we've seen in years in terms of activities. Most of the staffs that aren't idiots aren't even talking deals with handlers yet. That's one of the bigger things that's going to shake out. Only Georgia is dumb enough to be talking about things when they're not in person. One of the things HS coaches have reminded of lately is that it has been a long ass time since one of their players has come in after a weekend of watching football and said 'man, that Texas offense/defense was really fun to watch', so some of what UT needs won't even be shaking out in June, but I'm sure a lot will really start to, good or bad." Most of these players have never met anyone on UT's staff as a UT coach outside of Coleman and Drayton. It's crazy. I hope they have a kick-ass approach in a few weeks and then win some big fucking ball games this fall, because I am tired of the doldrums and tired of disappointment. Let's fucking go.8 points

Unless and until the state is prepared to care for potentially aborted babies then it should not be forbidden. It’s currently not able or willing to, so preventing it should not be allowed. As for the death penalty, the state should not ever impose it until its able and willing to do so in a non discriminatory manner. It currently is not able to do so, so it should also be disallowed. These are the hard truths.8 points

I confess that I am utterly unsurprised by the response of OP -- it was exactly as big a pile of garbage as I thought it would be. The damned shame of it is, there actually COULD be some really interesting conversations about CRT, about what it means, about where the proper boundaries and balance lie, etc. But we'll never, ever, ever have any of them, because it's been reduced to a collection of lazy buzzwords by its critics, and there it shall stay. I mean, I think it's pretty obvious to acknowledge that systemic issues are a FACTOR in current racial socioeconomic status in the US. Not to the exclusion of individual action and responsibility, but certainly as a factor alongside individual action. How many of our cities are laid out (and divided, and thus zoned) is largely a function of race-based decisions and actions. Austin included. Here's a good piece that summarizes some of the bigger factors: https://projects.statesman.com/news/economic-mobility/ Would any honest conversation about those factors acknowledge that 1) as time has gone by, particularly post-civil rights movement and post Austin's economic boom, the effects of those factors become more muted, but also 2) that they are not entirely erased? That's what an honest conversation would do. But we won't have one of those. Instead, we'll have further buzzword-laden mental masturbation by people like the OP, regurgitating shit from Fox and Prager U.8 points

Don't bet on that, mullet. My mom had esophageal cancer and had to have her larynx removed. She used a device that she held up to the bottom of her jaw and it vibrated against her jaw, providing the vibrations for her to talk. One of my younger brothers did something stupid, and knew she would give him hell, so he hid her talker. She laid into him anyway, squeaking out noises and wagging her finger in his face until he finally said, "Ok, I get it! You don't have to yell at me about it!" TL:DR A woman don't need no damn vocal chords to holler at you.8 points

It's been well documented that Ronald Reagan jumped the Republican Party into bed with the "Moral Majority" aka Evangelical Christians. That's where all this shit started. The whole "pro life" thing as a platform plank is only about 50 years old. Just about when the GQP rejected compassionate politics.7 points

CRT and DEI are definitely related. If you believe the problem as framed by CRT, then DEI is a tool to resolve the problem. I'm definitely against CRT and think it frames the problem far too simplistically. However I'm open to the idea that CRT has been driven far past its original intent by those who would push for DEI. In fact I think we need to break DEI apart, I believe if you were to survey Americans you'd find wide acceptance for Diversity and Inclusion. Equity however is a far different story. By simplifying differences between people to their race and racism alone, and creating a framework that Kendi proposed above to create equity is so far beyond most Americans' thinking. Most people will hear equity and think "equality" which is probably the intent. But it's subterfuge for a much different intent of amplifying the culture wars and drive redistribution and discrimination (again, not me saying it, it's Kendi). If we require redistribution to advance as a society, let's do it up front as reparations, not under the covers as "equity."7 points

"Thoughts and prayers, ma'am, but I am going to need you to go ahead and carry that baby to term and care for it for at least the next 18 years. Oh and I am a libertarian so don't mind me but I won't be supporting any expanded access to health care or other governmental programs to help you with the birth of the child or care for it, but the free market and self-righteous individualism should be able to help with that. Congratulations on the awesome female empowerment of bringing a life into this world"7 points

Critical race theory is a pernicious ideology that will lead to the further balkanization of this country. It is anti-American at its core - it turns E pluribus unum on its head. Ibrahim Kendi advocates a cabinet level Anti-Racism czar to enforce equity. It assigns oppressor, blame and victimhood status to people based on their race, a category that no one has a choice in belonging to. American values are based on the individual having agency in their lives. In viewing everything through the oppressor/oppressed lens based on racial categories, it ignores groups within the racial categories that exceed the racist low expectations placed on them by CRT adherents - examples like Nigerian and Cuban Americans who do far better than their racial cohorts. As for systemic racism, it is historical fact that institutionalized systemic racism existed until the Civil Rights Acts of the 60s. I think a far more valuable and consensus building use of the term "systemic racism" is to add the qualifier "historic" or "legacy" systemic racism to highlight the history but also the impact it has to this day. In my world view, the effects of redlining can still be felt and is evidenced by generational wealth creation by blacks lagging significantly behind whites. I would support reparations for black families who were impacted by redlining by providing down payment assistance/subsidies by the federal government for blacks to buy homes. Not differentiating between legacy systemic racism and what we have today is a disservice. One can say there are existing, disparate impact on blacks as a result of cash bail, being stopped by the police, etc.; however, it does not belong in the same category as poll taxes, literacy tests and segregation. I just think there needs to be a differentiation to get greater buy in to actually solve the problems of the legacy of historic systemic racism and the issues of disparate impact we have today.7 points

Gerry doubling down that the coaches should cut bait and saying he's known about issues for a while but he won't go into details. Also, this made me lol: Open your eyes people! "Need a RB in the class who runs between the tackles" is so clearly code for "Blue has issues with his coaches and will be opting out of his senior year on 5/20". Nahlin won't stand for anyone thinking he just may have gotten scooped on a story.6 points

yeah, it seems fairly straightforward, and humanitarian, to provide more women's care so that there are fewer opportunities for abortions. that includes free contraception, funding for planned parenthood, so that women can get affordable/free care for their lady parts, cancer screening, pap smears, all the things. you want fewer abortions? take care of the women. instead, the republicans just want punitive measures, and how it's not transparent to everyone that they really don't care about the kids and especially women is beyond me. it'd be one thing if abbott did this while guaranteeing some semblance of care for women and, let's not forget, those unwanted children by introducing some kind of reform and more funding for our social safety net. but no, it's fuck the women and let the kids rot in a broken foster care system. it's ghoulish.6 points

Got a prime tomahawk for me and some prime filets for the kids. Served alongside what I like to call French Onion soup mushrooms (not soupy at all, just a glaze), grilled asparagus, some rolls and roasted cauliflower with tahini sauce sprinkled with mint, parsley, and Fresno chilies.
