I think everyone here knows jack shit and hasn't watched anything in the QB battle. I think the only thing that is clear is that we don't have Case McCoy noodle arm as QB in waiting behind Sam. This will be more VY -> Pistolas like. We will be as good or better with whichever QB plays next year.18 points

We’ve had vaccine mandates for over a hundred years. See Jacobson v Matthew’s. This is not new or controversial. Every fucking child that attends schools is required by law to get vaccinated for certain transmissible diseases, even the now large group of morons refusing to get vaccinated were ALL vaccinated as children. The only reason there is an uproar now is because one entire political party decided to politicize a pandemic. It’s fucking maddening.17 points

Like I said a few weeks ago, I think we are going to surprise fuck people up this year. I think the D will be a pleasant surprise and I think the three Rs in the backfield are going to be very tough to stop. Bama Robinson seems like a total steal for us.13 points

Put mom in Hospice last week. I'm amazed how the word has gotten around and the balls on people. Many contacts of "can I buy", "can I have". Goddamn, when did they take an inventory of what mom had? Let the body stop breathing and cool off for awhile. Fuck!11 points

Nope. You’re here to spread around anti vaccine propaganda. Admittedly you’ve done less of it since your previous crowdbanning. I guess crowd persuasion works somewhat.11 points

When you think of all those games he played in, especially those resounding wins where Herman never took his foot off the gas and made sure we had plenty of garbage time to blood young players, it's easy to forget that.11 points

You know what's even awesomer? Super-Trumpy GQP hero DeSantis pushing an injection that is......NOT FULLY FDA APPROVED. ZOMG! That's right, kiddos. Regeneron is approved under an EUA only. So, you know, just like the vaccines -- "it hasn't been tested enough! We don't know what it will do to us!" So remember this, anti-vaxxers, if you won't get a vaccine because they "aren't FDA approved, and they haven't been around long enough!", make sure to click "decline" when they offer you Regeneron as your COVID symptoms become more and more brutal.10 points

I have been working on this for quite awhile. hope you all enjoy. WORLDS WITHOUT END REDUX Act I CHAPTER I. In the endless void between the stars the mile-long form of a starship moved silently, its chalk-white surface in perfect contrast with the infinite night. The almost casual motion of this ship and its two escorts was quietly observed. Star Destroyers, a powerful front-line ship for the Galactic Empire, and a source of terror across its territory. The recent arms race with the guerrilla movement to overthrow their leadership had continued to push their weapons technology further. It is this short time right now when that Empire would be at its strongest, when they have their most advanced technologies and an intact chain of command.10 points

Cross-posted from DT Interesting article in pre-print (not yet peer reviewed) from the Mayo Clinic comparing Pfizer and Moderna and how they fare over time, including against Delta. It's not peer reviewed yet, but it's also the Mayo Clinic, so I've got a reasonable level of confidence in it. It's important information that's been asked for a lot on these threads, so I'm going to break it down. Remember though, there is a chance the study won't get published, or will be published with revisions. This post is going to be a lot of words, but there's a lot to unpack here. Even the TL:DR is long. TL:DR Both mRNA vaccines are still highly effective against ICU visits and deaths at 6 months. There were no recorded deaths in this group for either vaccine in this study. Pfizer declined hard in July against infections and less against hospitalizations, but continues to prevent ICU visits and deaths at the same rate as Moderna. Pfizer is less effective against Delta than Alpha. As of July, Moderna confers a 50% risk reduction for overall infection over Pfizer. In Florida, it's a 60% reduction. There is no statistical difference in ICU visits and no deaths for either vaccine. Risks are still low overall for fully vaccinated people of either vaccine. The number of breakthroughs is still very low at 326 total so far. The study ran until July 29, so it does include Delta taking over. Patients from Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Not a great cross-section of America, but what we have for now. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.06.21261707v2 Breakthroughs were rare, with twice as many occurring in the Pfizer cohort. They noticed the vaccine effectiveness was declining in April 2021 from Moderna-93% and Pfizer-86% effective to 86% and 76% respectively. So they started collecting data comparing the vaccines against one another in Feb 2021. July arrived and so did Delta. They noticed a much bigger decline, especially for Pfizer, correlated with Delta's arrival in force. Correlation doesn't necessarily imply causation and they can't yet say if the increased infections are due to Delta evading the vaccine, or declining immunity, though they do show that Pfizer is more effective against Alpha than it is against Delta. July 2021 effectiveness against infection July comparison They speculate the same reasons for Moderna being more effective that have been speculated by myself and others on here (larger doses and longer dosing interval), but also note the lipids used to coat the spike protein are different. Unfortunately, they didn't analyze date of vaccination, so it's not clear if it's waning immunity, or Delta, or something else. I think it's likely it's both, but that's my own opinion. They do find that Pfizer is less effective at preventing symptomatic infection against Delta, than it was against Alpha, though still highly effective.9 points

So, they took out a hunk of my colon two years ago - ‘cause Stage III - maybe IV cancer. Recently they found clots, often a sign of mets. So they want a repeat colonoscopy to look for mets. I just got a call from my hospital that Covid outbreak has cancelled my appointment. Not emergency enough. Fuck non-vaxers/non-maskers9 points

So in 2009, my daughter and I were in Omaha at the CWS. I got an email from her softball coach saying that they had a kid drop off the All-Star team and would she want to replace her? But she'd have to play outfield instead of 1B like she did in the season. I told him we weren't coming home until Texas did, but I'd practice with her while we were here. After the CWS pool play was over, there were 2-3 off days before the championship series, so I decided we'd head to Chicago so she could see a game at Wrigley. And we made a pit stop along the way to practice: Easily one of the coolest moments of my life.8 points

My work with reading to my kid nightly no matter what for 30 min since he was 2 and just buying him piles of books of various interests paid more dividends than anything else I've done in life. That and modeling reading for fun and then discussing books. I work my ass of on helping him learn how to learn, get organized and break projects down into manageable chunks. In the US you either need to budget a lot of time supplementing Public school, or go Private. IMO No judgment. it took serious effort to get my kid to enjoy reading. Once it took, it was easy. Around 5th grade he read Hatchet and we reread it on a hiking trip Finished it at 8k feet in July at 30 degrees in Yosemite in a tent. Truly great times.8 points
