  1. I'd just like to point out that the Longhorns are undefeated following the death of a British Monarch ... 1972 (King Henry VIII) 23-10 vs. Miami (FL) 1952 (King George VI) 35-14 vs. LSU 1910 (King Edward VII) 11-6 vs. Southwestern 1901 (Queen Victoria) 32-0 vs. the Houston Athletic Association

  2. How in the goddamned living fuck can anyone post on this site that they'd rather have Derrick Henry at RB than Ricky Williams or Earl Campbell? That's fucking inexcusable.

  4. As one would expect, this did not go over well over on secrant: Newsflash: We are joining the conference to take your money Posted by Sergio J on 9/7/22 at 1:02 pm Texas made a business decision. That’s it. We didn’t join because of the mighty history of the “SEC-SEC-SEC”. We didn’t join to get back old rivalries. We didn’t join out of respect for the existing schools in the conference. We just decided that we are no longer going to solely support the welfare program that is the Big 12. ESPN decided to make the SEC their cash cow, so we are going to take advantage of that. We didn't join the conference to listen to bottom tier teams talk about how great the "SEC SEC SEC" is football. We didn't join to listen to you make fun of the politics of Austin, when almost universally the SEC states are the worst run states in the country. We certainly didn't join to be a part of a conference of such great academic institutions and standing. Hell, our system schools blow most SEC schools out of the water academically. We didn't join to listen to you tell us how great your BBQ is. FYI, pork is for bacon and poor people. That being said, you Bama folks enjoy your time in Austin. But please remember what I've said here when you wonder why we aren’t all “RA RA SEC” like pathetic schools do. Reply OptionsTop 8146

  5. It was kind of a retarded post, if you're honest. You're basically suggesting you'll be contributing nothing. You're just going to be a leach, like Vandy? Anyway, welcome to the forum, Me. I come in relative peace. I'm old. I've been around the forums since the dawn of time, including shaggy. I'm a Bama fan, and, while I'll never live up to the sophistication, wealth, and tooth quantity you Texas elites have, I can type purty good, and I've watched a lot of Bama football.

  6. Mission accomplished: Near Helper, UT 7x7 w/ a kicker 397 B&C score Dad’s Weatherby Mark V chambered in .300 Weatherby Magnum 211 yards 200gr Accubond This was a journey 37 years in the making, and he was the most majestic animal I had ever seen. Dad was with me every step of the way. He would have turned 94 the day before I took the shot. Thanks again for all the help and inspiration over the past year as I set out on this adventure of a lifetime. And @686 was right - I’m already planning the next elk hunt. I hope all y’all going after elk this fall have great success and an even greater time achieving it!

  8. His whole premise is that the Special Master’s review will take about one month. I think that severely underestimates things. Trump will fight the scope of the review, and will appeal Special Master determinations on privilege- which won’t happen in one swoop, but likely batches. Trump will try to appeal all the way to SCOTUS for all documents the Special Master will turn over to the DOJ. Everyone should stop assuming that Trump will play by the rules or act in good faith. He won’t. He will use every opportunity to delay, and run his mouth in the press. And the longer this goes on without an indictment, all the GOP supporters can say, “if they had anything they would have charged him already”. The Special Master ruling is without sound legal justification and unnecessarily complicates a pretty fucking straightforward case. There aren’t close or tough privilege calls at stake. It’s just fuckery

  9. I understand when people what to delight in the deaths of people who did them distinct harm. I get why a lot of old union members in the Midland were happy when Margaret Thatcher died. I'll be over the fucking moon when Donald Trump dies. But Elizabeth II never did anything to any of the innumerable people who take her passing as an opportunity to show their ugliness. Ok, great--you hate the institution of the monarchy; it still exists. You think British colonialism was bad; she didn't do it. Meanwhile, there's an entire country for whom she was the human embodiment of their country under their Constitution. And a lot of them are really sad. But nevermind--someone on Twitter needs to dunk on someone for . . . reasons. Some of the reactions out there are just really weird.

  10. All week we've been hearing nothing except for how Texas will be blown off the field, doesn't belong in the same sentence with Bama, and is going to embarrass themselves. Where have we heard that before? Not SEC ready, blah blah. Fuck all that. We're 7-1-1 against Bama, and everybody knows that the result of the single game in the loss column was bullshit. Our decline started with that loss to Bama, and so too did their rise. Reversal of fortune incoming. Saban made a goddamn deal with the devil, and it's now time to pay the piper. We actually have a few things working for us in this matchup that not very many are talking about or are willing to admit. Nick Saban is a bitch when it comes to scheduling out of conference road games. He doesn't play them. Bama hasn't lost often in the regular season during the Saban era, but when they have, it's been on the road (2013 Auburn; 2014 Ole Miss; 2017 Auburn; 2019 Auburn; 2021 aggy). We have generally played pretty well against highly ranked teams in recent seasons, especially at home. LSU in 2019 was electric and we were right there. This year's Bama is not better than that LSU team. When Bama has struggled in the Saban era, it has usually been the result of two things from the other side: talented RBs and TEs in space. Guess what Texas' two biggest positional advantages in this matchup are? We will have the best RB and TE on the field this Saturday. And there is no one better than former Bama OC and our current head coach to scheme and create the type of space required for Bijan and Sanders to be successful. Our offense is going to operate, and we're going to score. To prevail on Saturday, we will also need a great game from our defense. We might get it. Against ULM last week, I saw something in our defense that I haven't seen in several seasons--our players were routinely in position to make plays and limit offensive gains (the lone exception was Brockmeyer's contribution in trash time that resulted in ULM's only touchdown). The tackling was also much improved from previous seasons. Sure we're young, but we still have speed and size with playmaking potential. We actually got pressure (and a few sacks) against ULM in our opener (Bama didn't in theirs), which is something that we were incapable of doing to any team last year. While high-level and consistent play for 4 quarters on Saturday will be a tall order, the social facilitation of a raucous and hostile DKR should help our defense. Our biggest weakness against Bama will be our depth. We're going to have to do more with less. We'll probably need to get some help with turnovers or on big special teams plays (we successfully did both last week). But doing so doesn't seem hopelessly out of reach, given the amp and energy of the stadium and spotlight that we'll be dealing with. I think that some chinks are visible in Bama's otherwise invincible armor. Their own fanbase has been expressing some nervousness about their relatively lackluster offensive line performance last week. Bama is mortal, and we are capable of beating them. I'm not saying that we'll win... but don't be fucking surprised if we do. Fuck Bama and Hook 'em Horns.

  11. Now that the Queen has passed, I think we can all agree that strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just cause some watery tart threw a sword at them. The Britons were living in a dictatorship! A self-perpetuating autocracy, exploiting the workers and hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic social differences in their society. There is violence inherent in the system! People are being repressed! Now, Britons can move on to an autonomous collective, an anarcho-syndicalist commune, taking turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week, but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two-thirds majority, in the case of more major issues.

  13. Her final demise is interesting and a bit sad due to the seat she's held as history unfolds. I do hope though that her death is also the last gasp of the British monarchy. She had some excellent personal qualities but as a whole they're a despicable lot.

  16. I did say "mostly". But as far as the Indians and Pakistanis, the Brits (mostly my avatar) kept them as peace for decades via British rule. When the split happened, of course, it was a disaster. Up to 2 million died. During one of Churchill's visits to the White House during WWII, at a dinner with the president, Eleanor and one of Eleanor's NY newspaper publisher friends, the friend meant to put Churchill on the spot about the UK's Indian policy. She, the publisher, asked what Churchill intended to do about those pesky Indians. Churchill replied "Which ones? The ones in Asia that have thrived under British rule, or the ones in America that are almost extinct." She was speechless.

  18. Thank you all for your passion and continued input into the most important event in my lifetime. Ukraine standing toe to toe with Russia, and repeatedly pushing their shit is in inflection point in the history of the world. Selfishly, for the US and the free world, it doesn't get any better. Ukraine, with our our substantial, and increasing support, is doing all of the heavy lifting while we cheer them on. God Bless Ukraine!!! Surly, you rock! The amount of information from all the postings and links takes more time to read & digest than most people are awake every day. Donny, who wandered into the middle of a hurricane, ..., sorry, dude. It is hard to boil down the last 6 months into a short answer on the present status. When progress is measured by tiny towns that Google Maps doesn't recognize, 10 miles from small towns nobody has ever heard of, 100 miles from any city that at best is vaguely familiar, it's hard to put the puzzle pieces together to make a picture that you don't even know what it looks like. If one was left to make sense from only the mainstream media, I don't think that's possible. The educations, life experiences and backgrounds you have meld into a combination of factual information and insight that is unique and enlightening. Ironic that it's hosted on a college football message platform, where those same inputs lead to such drastic outputs. I'm glad I played Risk as teen, and more glad that I played it with my kids. If you know nothing of history, the game teaches you of the pitfalls of attacking asia. How a beaten Russia comes out of this, and what scorched earth they inflict along the way, are hard things to project. That is where we, and Ukraine, end up. Onward, thru the fog!

  22. This would be pretty disastrous for the Kharkiv front for the RU. Way way worse than people really give it credence. This is something that could potentially collapse a huge chunk of this front due to natural geography. Kupyansk sits on the north end of a major geographical barrier and everything going south to Oskil on the western bank is essentially an elevated ridge. Take Kupyansk and in effect, Izium is now in a pocket with artillery firing positions that can easily hit the main supply route to the east the supplies most of the front. As an added bonus, the ridge helps seal that part of a defensive front and makes it easier to just push north to the border and envelope west to now put additional pressure on the fighting in the north of Kharkiv. Take Kupyansk and it provides you a pivot point to both trap the units in Izium (unless they start pulling out now east through Oskil) and then the same towards northen Kharkiv. The ridge on the west side of the Oskil river provides a great defensive postion and allows the UKA to mass troops on a shorter front to keep pushing to close the various pockets.

  23. She was a jeep-driver in WW2 or something. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Our ancestors 250 years ago had legitimate grievances with the British Crown. Myself, I'm willing to let bygones by bygones. Great Britain has been our best ally for a long time. British people are super cool. The queen is a badass. God Save the Queen.
