Well, it is done. Lotta fucking pain. Meds are helping but only to a degree. Turns out the radiation had fried a section of my lung that he had to cut out. Thatβs the most painful spot. But it was bleeding so he thinks that couldβve contributed to the anemia. Too doped to keep typing.36 points

I have to tell you--and this is not directed particularly at you--I really hate this phrase and others like it (e.g., "The moral arc of the universe . . ."). It wrongly implies that "history" or "the universe" has some sort of consciousness and is guiding us. Or, at the very least, it implies that "history" is predetermined toward a more fair, decent, and virtuous future. And it's just not so. There's absolutely no reason to believe that history has to flow in that direction. For long periods of time, it flowed in the exact opposite direction--see, e.g., 476-1400 across Europe and 1400-present across Africa. And at particular moments, history was really fucking close to going really far in the direction of darkness. It took Churchill not capitulating in 1940 for the universe to continue its "moral arc." And history being on the right side of itself depends greatly on Stanislav Petrov deciding "why don't we wait and see if this is an actual NATO first strike." If we want history to move in the "right" direction, we've got to move it. MLK talked about the "moral arc of the universe," but he didn't sit back and treat it as certainty; he moved the universe. And as we sit here today, it's entirely possible that it is we who are on the wrong side of history unless we get off our ass and make sure history bends in our direction and away from Trumpist fascism.26 points

It's a busy recruiting weekend for the Texas Longhorns. As visitors being to arrive, Head Coach Steve Sarkisian whips out his photos app. "Oh hey there 5 Star Recruit, welcome to Austin! My name is Steve. I'm excited to be able to tell you about the Texas Longhorns. But first, let me show you these screenshots. Can you believe that AgSince39 would say that about A&M players and recruits!? Quite rude, if you ask me. Now go on ahead for a tour of the stadium with Position Coach. I'm going to show this here photo to more of your peers and I'll see you after!" "Hello again 5 Star Recruit! I hope you enjoyed the tour with Position Coach. Now that we're talking again, let me show you this screenshot of what InSalesOfWk88 said about their QB playing through injury. Oh, position coach already showed you that one? That's good. We make sure to take every opportunity to show you these screenshots. Have you seen this one of LoochNutsYum? It is extra vulgar. Oh, you'd like to commit? And it's because of the screenshots? Well I can't say I'm surprised; LoochNutsYum works every time. Go that way and tell them you committed so they can make your graphic and let 247 know to bump your rating." 'Muahaha,' Steve thinks to himself. 'It's a good thing Jimbo and his staff are so virtuous. I can't talk good, scheme an offense, or coach QBs like him, but he can't match my subterfuge. Those Aggies are the best fans in sports - and Kyle field is a marvel of engineering - but by making fake TexAgs accounts and saying mean things, I'm able to turn their greatest advantage - the Vaunted 12th Man! - against them. Bwahaha what a ruse.'22 points

Well, the countdown is on. Tomorrow is the last day of my life to eat the way I have for 55 years, as Sunday I need to fast except for clear liquids. I have been eating like a hog for the last 10 days. Just had an awesome halibut dinner. Have spent a fortune at restaurants, but why the hell not? Last go for that. Surgery Monday morning, and from that point forward, life will be different until I die. But because of the surgery, that day will hopefully be far down the road. And thatβs really what matters. If I get to walk my daughter down the aisle because of it, weβll, fuck it, letβs go.17 points

I am continually floored by how good Kyle Flood is at his job and what a stark contrast he has been from the past 16 years of Texas offensive line coaches. How often have we seen Texas identify a prospect before TCU or Baylor? Noting the normal caveats that he still hasnβt hit campus yet and careers are unpredictable, Cojoe is looking like another positive data point. One of the reasons that he is still committed here despite our heavy depth chart is that Flood has always recruited him the hardest, especially early in the year when no one else wanted him. Holgorsen and his staff didnβt think he could ever see the field. Baylor and TCU werenβt pushing, and either SMU or tech was probably the runner up when he commuted to Texas. Now, all of these schools are trying to sneak back in but hopefully it is too late.16 points

Agreed. So the solution is to not call out friends and family who support the guy whoβs personal responsible for the dehumanization and implicated in the deaths of shootings of minorities of all stripes? Iβm incredibly non-confrontational as a personality but I have started to speak up to people I love. Including one uncle who has over 30 years of very close relationships with the Bush family, invites to family weddings, etc. Their continuing support for Trump is simply disqualifying and dangerous for America. Iβve told them as much. I will say that there are some people that listen, some that ignore me and still others that may not say it to my face, but effectively have told me to fuck off because I spoke up. This is above family and personal friendships to me at this point. I hope for a day this will be gone and I can regain some of the people in my lives Iβve lost. I made a trip through the former Yugoslavia several years back and talked to a lot of locals who all said the war was just so fucking stupid with absolutely no reason for any of it. Just the people suffering for the maniacal egos of power hungry morons. I never thought Iβd see my country heading to the precipice of the same. This hate is pointless, and itβs coming from one party. We have to talk about it with our close ones, and forcefully. My belief is that even if I lose people in my life, they have also lost me. There has to be a personal price to their support for Trump and if losing me is it, fine. It makes me want to cry.14 points

Here's the thing about politics: ...people are acting on their political opinions in ways that hurt everyone, whether they agree with their politics or not. You ever hear that word "privilege" get used? I used to think it was a joke, myself. A nuisance, at best. I didn't really know what it meant and it sounded an awful lot like a way to make people like me the Bad Guys, and I knew I wasn't the bad guy. I mean, look. I have a car that I think is pretty cool, and I get a lot of people coming up to me and telling me whenever I park, "Hey, man, cool car, I always wanted one of these." And I get to smile back at them and tell them how much I enjoy driving it. And part of the reason I enjoy driving it is because I can drive it anywhere. Nobody's going to say, "Hey, there's a middle-aged white man driving a fancy sports car, he's probably a drug dealer. We should pull him over." And nobody's going to attack me with assault rifles because I'm having sex with my significant other.* I'm not Jewish, so no one is going to literally wish that I, my children, and all my relatives be thrown into a chamber and gassed en masse. That ability to just live my life normally is what "privilege" means. And now if you're thinking "That shouldn't be a privilege, that should be normal," well, then congratulations, you just became a bleeding-heart left-wing commie liberal. What am I blathering about? The ability to say "this is political, we should move this over to the political board so I don't have to talk about it" is privilege. Because for many of us, we can't avoid politics. It's in our face telling us "you should be dead and I'm gonna pull the trigger!" each and every day, simply because we were born. Ukrainians can't avoid what Russia is doing to them. Blacks can't avoid what police are doing to them. Jews can't avoid what the new Neo-Nazis are doing to them. And right now, thousands of North Carolinans don't have power because a bunch of people are terrified by a couple of guys wearing makeup and dresses. So. Yeah. It's political. It always has been. And it's time for people to stop pretending that they can just live their lives without talking about it. *Don't let the fact that we haven't had sex in... a really long time distract you here14 points

I'd argue Rush and Fox News were sowing the resentment that is the MAGA lifeblood since the late 80s/early 90s so it's been more like 30+ years in the making.13 points

Back when I used to do a lot of grid security I had a subscription to an ICS alerting feed from DHS. Pretty much just a feed of security incidents from power companies around the country. Most were alerts fairly innocuous events but occasionally something juicy came along like the time a power plant sent out an alert of a group of Arab men were attempting to breach the premises. An initial alert came through that some Arab men were trying to enter the premises without credentials. Later another alert came out that they tried to enter the premises in disguise then finally a third one saying they returned but were captured by law enforcement. Be on the lookout for coordinated attempts to breach other facilities! Later the alerts were rescinded because the Arab men were actually Mexicans hired as custodial contractors and just trying to do their job.12 points
