https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46020555/college-football-vince-young-rise-texas-legend-began-ohio-state When Young spoke candidly, everyone listened and responded. The season before, in 2004, the Longhorns trailed Oklahoma State 35-14. Brown opened the locker room doors and was about to give a halftime speech. "'You ain't got to say s---, we know what the f--- we got to do," Griffin remembered Young saying as he cut off Brown. "It's hilarious now, but in the moment, you're like, 'Did he really just say that?'" In the second half, Texas outscored the Cowboys 42-0.39 points

I'm breaking my Cloak Room hiatus due to the breaking news that James Dobson is finally dead. I feel a little bit better about the world now that he's not in it.26 points

Simms ruptured his spleen in the NFL and kept playing. People can have all the opinions they want regarding Simms. I'll disagree with most of them, in all likelihood. But the accusation he was soft always pisses me off the most. Chrissy Simms. What a load of horse shit.24 points

Why is anyone bitching about this? We'll play ou, aggy, and Arky every year, plus 6 others in a rotation (home and home, I'm assuming?). And I like the insistence that one of the OOC games remains a P4 opponent. What exactly would have been better than this? Because this sounds fucking great.21 points

Sort of. There's a weird in state hatred of Texas in Colorado that stems from the fact so many Texans own so much of the land in their state. Honestly, Colorado football fans are a strange breed. The administration there goes hot and cold regarding giving the football program support and then pulling the rug out from under them, so the fans end up on an unpleasant teeter totter as to whether the team is going to be good or not. I don't believe Colorado fans think about Texas all that much. Missouri doesn't think of Texas much at all. They have the KU thing going on, and they're too busy feeling rejected by all the SEC schools who don't even think they bring anything to the conference and wish they'd be kicked out. Nebraska fans hate Texas with every fiber of their being. It's akin to Arkansas hate. It's not just about the record. It's this mythology they've created that UT is responsible for their program's demise. That's existential shit. Nebraska is one of those states that to be from there, even 2nd generation, means you're a Cornhusker football fan. It doesn't matter if you went to school there. It's like Constantine making everyone in the Roman Empire convert to Christianity. You're a Cornhusker football fan even if you don't follow football. They'll cite different factors. Lack of population in the state. The increase in difficulty in recruiting out of state. The move to the Big 10. But given our human propensity to blame someone else for our own problems, the chief place they like to put the blame for their decline is on Texas. We came into the conference and ruined their ability to place dumb college football players on the academic rolls for a year, even though it was an 11-1 vote. The officials were bribed to let Texas win the Big 12 championship game in 2009. If they win that, they're allegedly still a prominent program. We formed the Longhorn Network which forced them to go elsewhere for conference membership, rather than sharing revenue equally. Never mind in every vote regarding revenue sharing they voted with Texas, because they were making a killing on selling pay per view for Tier III rights to the Nebraska faithful, but the amount the Big 10 was able to offer was going to dwarf any combination of revenue they'd receive from the Big 12. They still act as if their departure was UT's fault. It doesn't matter that we haven't played them since they left the Big 12. That shit is handed down from generation to generation, just like Arkansas. Every little dirt farmer is tucked into bed with stories of the boogeyman, the Texas Longhorns, who ruined the Nebraska football program. It's accepted as fact up there. I won't go into all the dynamics in volleyball, because it will bore everyone to tears, and I've already lost a lot of people with my usual wall of text. But for the few of us on here that passionately follow that sport, the Nebraska hatred for us is immense (in volleyball I'd say it goes both ways equally in ways it does not in football, but that's neither here nor there). And citing A&M's hate as having anything to do with 11-5, 5-3 in College Station, is an almost criminal misrepresentation. That's an institutional hate that goes way beyond football. As much as their brainwashing fish camp, their roots as an all male compulsory ROTC military college, the jizz jar bonfire pre tragedy, and all their other cult behavior, it's their shared hatred for Texas that bonds Aggies. That's not true to the same extent even for OU fans. We diminish their complete and utter obsession with us to say it has anything to do with their record against us.17 points

My son put on the pads for the first time in his life today playing football in 7th grade. I can only hope and dream he sticks with it through high school so he can randomly entertain degenerates in 2060 on whatever version of message boards exit then. At that time, if Iβm still alive, I will be as old as Army Brat is now. I canβt even imagine the tech fails that wait for me in that point and time. if we are all alive will Sydney be able to spell online by then? To be determined. Helo will still be an idiot though, Iβm sure.16 points

I read the essay. There was not a hint of self-awareness or self-realization in it. In fact, I'm not sure why the title mentioned "I'm a conservative" as it didn't really come up anywhere else. The subtext that I got was, "I didn't really care about these issues until it affected me and my family directly." You can boil it all down to, "I didn't think my conservatism would hurt me, just other people."13 points

Look, I know I am so far in the tank on the notion that OU is wildly overrated this year that I probably can't be helped, but it's these fucking okie writers who are doing it to me. Spoilered is an article talking excitedly about 5 fast risers for OU in this fall's camp. If you've been following, it's unintentional hilarity. Highlights: -Each of the 5 "risers" is in a spot to play due to desperation. -Logan Howland started due to injury last year at LT. He had surgery on his shoulder, missed the spring and was promptly pushed backwards on the depth chart. The great hope at RT was a transfer from juggernaut Western Carolina, dude named Simmons, and he's been hurt all camp. Enter Logan Howland at RT. He's rising again. -Keonteziedeezie Lewis failed at UCLA and Wisconsin. He became a magical wizard for the rabid Salukis of Southern Illinois receiving for almost 800 yards against guys that wouldn't make high school rosters at 6A Texas programs. Now, because other spares they were relying on at WR are hurt, Lewis is "different, man" per the erudite Emmett Jones. Right. -Ivan "Helobious" Carreon has barely been mentioned this past spring or fall camp, but OU's desperate at WR, so they're going to be forced to play him as well. -We've covered the hilarity that is the Jaren Kanak journey. Hullaballoo, Kanak Kanak, Hullaballoo Kanak! OU people are convincing themselves that this guy is going to make a difference at TE in 2025. Their TE room is so putrid that a random transfer from Kennesaw State will be starting and they're going to utilize this Kanak idiot as a wildcard in some form behind him. -They're painting the insertion of Fasusi as the second coming of Kelvin Banks. After they throw his ass out of the recovery center, yank the IV feed from his dehydrated lower left arm, and push him back out onto the practice field for more reps and conditioning, that motherfucker better get back to earning the $750k Nagy is paying his ass.11 points

Russian isnβt banned in Ukraine. Ukrainian is the only official state language and media, official communications, elections, and state institutions are required to use Ukrainian. Russian citizens must renounce Russian citizenship and accept Ukrainian to publish books in Russian. These laws were in place before the full-scale invasion but not before the 2014 invasion. Russian books and media cannot be imported from Russia, Belarus, or occupied territories and post-Soviet Russian music and entertainment canβt be performed unless the reformers have condemned the invasion. This is because Russia uses information and culture as a weapon. Important to note that the most strident restrictions only came after the 2022 invasion. Everything Lavrov says is a lie, so itβs not really helpful to engage or respond to it. You canβt address the complaints because they are made up.10 points

Soβ¦ this is an incredibly good example of the distance between the academia, policy think tanks, and ideology that powers the progressive movement and the people the movement seeks to serve. I understand you are coming from a good place, but it really doesnβt. Im not picking on you. This is a PSA: βUnhousedβ does not provide more dignity and less stigma. It obscures reality and confers the moral license to look away. I spent years actively volunteering with the homeless. Iβve cooked for them, cried with them, washed their feet, raised money for programs, spent the night with them at the cold weather shelter and so on. My wife volunteers with a homeless support program. My mother was homeless, and died as a result of her homelessness. So thatβs my bona fides on this. People who actually spend years with the homeless mostly hate the term βunhoused.β It reduces an extraordinarily complex and devastating syndrome to a real estate problem. They are not just βunhousedβ people. They are homeless people, which is to say they are trapped in a self-reinforcing process of slow dehumanization, spiritual/psychological decay and isolation. To call them βunhousedβ implies that the problem can be solved by providing housing only, or housing first, and that simply isnβt true. In some ways thatβs as bad as sending them back to the jungle or to jail, or perhaps worse than jail, since jail offers the remote but occasional possibility of stabilization and rehab. Anyway, sorry to go off- but I speak for a lot of people on this one. Just say homeless.10 points

When people parrot the idea that Ukraine is to blame for this conflict, I like to point out how many Warsaw Pact countries have sought NATO membership (14 have joined and more would like to) vs NATO countries seeking to align with Russia (zero). Other than having to explain what the Warsaw Pact was, its a pretty effective way to make clear that Russia is an aggressor that constantly threatens its neighbors and offers little in return for "partnership". Ukraine is not alone, it simply wants what the other former 14 Warsaw Pact countries that joined NATO wanted: peace, independence, and partnership. I like to ask them, "Why do you think so many countries want to join NATO, but nobody wants to join Russia?"10 points

I had my bachelor party in Austin that weekend... I fucked up and took my a&m tix instead of OSU tix... FML Watched 1H at BW3 with a bunch of OSU fans... Shitty way to start a bachelor party weekend. We made a halftime adjustment and went to Yellow Rose... We were the only dudes in the place for what turned into the greatest game watch and after party I've ever been to. I love Vince Young.9 points

I am not on the Alabraska train envisioned by @Wulaw Horn, simply because they are located in a region that is absolutely drenched in talent. It's why I don't see OU fully collapsing into decades of futility either. DFW and east Texas are too rich as buffer zones to allow the drift into the abyss. That said, I also just don't see Daboer fading out at Bama in the near term, either. The guy is an excellent coach. His staff looks (mostly) really solid. They're loaded on defense, especially in the secondary. They can rock fight most opponents into 24-17 type wins if the offense doesn't click. With Grubbs there, I'm sure the offense will be fine as well. They have 2 NFL WRs, minimum, and multiple NFL prospects on the OL. I'll be surprised if they're not a playoff team and legitimate title contender.9 points

I'm trying.... Summer recruiting is over, pretty much everyone is committed, so from now on it's flips/late bloomers/2027 dudes reclassifying. QB - Done. Just hang on to Bell. RB - See QB. Lots of speculation that we'd stay on Edwards for a 2 back class, but Bobby squashed that the other day. Just hang on to Cooper seems to be the plan. WR - Definitely need 1 more. Not sure where they plan to play Bishop. Reporting is that they'll stay on Lott. Ship has probably sailed with Finley. Paris Melvin possibly on the back burner. TE - Seems like they wanted 1 elite guy and couldn't find one/land one. Depth chart is pretty young and talented. Supposedly there's a 5-star 2027 guy that's high on us. I bet we just shut it down here. IOL - Personally I think we gotta have at least 1, maybe 2. Haven't seen much but I bet we stay in contact with the two aggy guys. We passed on Katoa. I bet a new name or two emerges here eventually. OT - Need 1. Seems like Lee is the target. I'm sure there's a backup plan but damned if I know what it is. DT - I'm sure we'll have our work cut out holding on to all 4 of these OOS guys. This seems like a spot where they'll always take another guy if they can. EG - Henderson or bust? Need another IMO but they're not gonna take a guy that can't contribute. LB - Hang on to Atkinson. Otherwise done? CB - Early emergence of Littleton reduces the need here. Still I'd think 1 more would be ideal. No names. S - By all acounts, staying on Benjamin. So I'm still expecting 1 WR, 1 IOL, 1 OT, 1 EG, 1 CB, and 1 S. That'd give us 27 including the three specialists. IMO the biggest remaining needs are at OL and DB.9 points

I was driving to work today and as I was crossing North Capitol there was a black man, without a helmet, riding an ATV. He popped a wheelie through the intersection and continued down North Capitol southbound toward the Capitol. Normally, that shit pisses me off because it puts pedestrians, cars, and bicycles in danger but not today. The level of 'I don't give a fuck' required by that man with all of the guardsmen, ICE, extra cops, etc, was off the charts. Today, that man was my hero. I wish I could have armed him with sandwich.9 points
