I'm speaking of the use of windmills in Holland for milling?  Am I missing something?

It depends whether you are talking about exhibit A or B from this photo.  Exhibit A is everywhere, and not just a west Texas thing.  B is heavily featured in west Texas, large swaths of California, and other places, but you don't see them on every rural farm, as you would A.  Based on the geographic specificity, I assumed you were talking abut B, thus my comment.

Yes.  A.  We had a windmill in our farm in Comanche for the garden and cows.  It actually came to me late last night that you might be thinking I was referencing the generators.  All good.

Gentlemen!...back to wives and their associated nincompoopery...Please!

Sorry for tilting at windmills.  How 'bout this one.

We live a suburb of Dallas called Rowlett.  Most places we visit go has us use Bush Turnpike, which is a toll road, to get home.  As we get close to our exit off Bush, my wife will exit the highway and drive 4 extra miles to avoid the toll.  I've tried to explain benefit/cost to her to no avail.  Here's the math ---

1.  To continue home on the toll (4 miles) costs 88 cents as we have toll tags and the cost per mile is 22 cents a mile.

2. Taking her route adds 4 extra miles + about 10 minutes of drive time as we go through several lights.  If I'm calculating this correctly it costs 60 cents in gas to take this route.  Her car gets 20MPG in the city @ $3 a gallon.  So, 1/5 of the cost of a gallon of gas.

So, she's "saving" 28 cents to drive an extra 4 miles while adding 10 minutes to the trip.  BTW, we're not Surly 1 percenters, but we can afford gas.

And, before anyone asks, I do usually drive; however, when we have the kids with us, we take her car and she prefers to drive it.

Looks like they're in the sink and not stuck in the disposal, so you're winning.

Nor are they in the dishwasher, facing up, just waiting for you to stab yourself

I would rather you stab your uncareful hand than dull my knife points.

Sharp knives are washed by hand, they don't ever go in my dishwasher.

All it takes is once, to you or a loved one, and you’ll forever put knives pointy/gougey end down.

My wife wants a new mid-size SUV. I've found several for her to test drive. This morning she told me she didn't want one with a twist knob for transmission selection. I told her that eliminates a lot of vehicles and ask why it was a deal breaker. She said it was because we broke a plastic knob on an oven 30 years ago and she doesn't trust them.                                                                             She also got mad at me because I walked away from a deal after the dealer added $1000 to our negotiated price for nitrogen in the tires and tinting on the back windows. She said I was being too rigid and unreasonable. The next day, she started reading about it on the internet. She said websites said it was a bad deal and agreed with me. She couldn't say I was right but she did say that strangers on the internet said it was bad, so it was ok to walk away.

Marriage summed up succinctly.

When did this nitrogen in the tires shit start?

airplanes, then race cars.  the NASCAR guys have done for a couple of decades now. A heavy stock car is very sensitive to tire pressures.  It's not uncommon for a driver or crew chief to make an adjustment of 1/4 psi on a specific tire (right rear, etc).

Rusty Wallace was famous for this.  He knew this shit cold.

I can show you what Shun knives that have been repeatedly run through the dishwasher look like. And yes this is the correct thread for this post 😡

I was taught to do it that way and have been doing it for 40 years without major incident.  If it's the standard, it's not a surprise.

So, ignoring the danger aspect of this. When unloading the clean dishwasher, someone grabs all of the utensils by the eating end with their hand to put them away?

Not unless they're a mouthbreathing moron and can't comprehend grabbing an inch lower on the handle.  Or is the problem that the genius is putting away clean dishes with dirty hands?

You poors don't have a dishwasher with a top silverware rack?

If you must know, we were re-washing the corncobs.  However, we have upgraded to single ply last month.

@Mittens I recently switched from your way to handles up.  I read a Thermidor reddit thread about it (my brand) and they said put them in either way, the cleanliness will be the same.

And it has proven so.  Also this is the best dishwasher I have ever owned.

Just one data point.

I don't understand this. Handle always up so you can grab and throw in the drawer without flipping.

My dishwasher baskets look like this.  Knives may work pointy end down, but forks and spoons have to go handle down.  This design suggests that handle down is the preferred way, which makes sense if you want the working ends to actually get clean.  It's common sense that you don't unload the dishwasher immediately after wiping your ass.

See the top of that silverware tray? Take it off, it is completely unnecessary. Who has silverware with handles that fit in those slots anyway?

If your trust in humanity is as low as most of us here, expecting everyone to wash their hands before unloading the dishes is a high expectation. Unless you live in a ISO 1 classification clean room and everyone wears proper suits and hoods, then I guess good for you.

How is one supposed to build their immunity if you don't allow your kids to unload the silverware from the dishwasher?!  Did y'all not grow up playing in the dirt, drinking from a water hose?!

Fuck that.  I like having the silverware separate so it actually gets clean...no spoons spooning in my dishwasher.  For what I'm rocking, only the knife handles are tight, but they do fit.  Steak knives handles don't, but I prefer to handwash those anyway.  If you have the Fred Flintstone line, then yeah, your handles may not fit.

Daughter: Are grandma and grandpa rich?
Wife: We don’t talk about those things.

Me: [To daughter] It can be impolite to talk about that stuff but why don’t ask?

Wife: [glare]
Daughter: They have 2 houses. And one has an elevator. The other has a pool on the inside. I think that means you’re rich.

Me: that’s pretty solid logic sweetie. But it’s probably best you don’t worry about money. You’re well taken care of.
Wire: [still glaring]
Daughter: But we’re not rich.
Me: Not when I have to pay for all your activities and stuff.

Daughter: oh Dad!!!

[Daughter leaves]
Wife: You always do this. The conversation should have ended at ‘We don’t talk about things like this’.

Me: She was curious and she wasn’t wrong.

Wife: she shouldn’t use that word.

Me: what word?

Wife:!Rich. It has such a bad connotation now and with all this backlash you know.

Me: oh yeah?

Wife: Yeah it’s a bad word now. Just say wealth or they have money. Rich just isn’t safe anymore.

Me: What kind of world is it when rich … I mean people of means don’t even feel safe in their paid off BMW’s and multiple houses?

Wife; [Glares]

Me: Don’t worry babe. It’s nothing you need to worry about.

Wife: Yeah because we don’t have any money.

Me: I’m doing my part to keep my family safe.
