Fuck Lincoln Riley. Nobody has fallen ass backwards into fortuitous shit than he has. Just one thing; when was the last time that OU actually recruited a QB and developed them for four years.

They'll probably still be good with the QBs they are recruiting are ranked high. But still.

You’re just fucking around, right?

This is so fucking dumb. Herman was unquestionably the hottest commodity in coaching these past 5 years. He won the Broyles award in 2014 and was the consensus best OC in college ball. He gets the job with UH and immediately started turning heads from the get go. I heard him on 610 when he first got the UH job and became an immediate fan of his and knew that he had the total package to succeed at the highest levels. He proved it on the field with a conference championship and NY6 Peach Bowl win against the defending national champions. He has top 5 recruiting classes since he has been on the 40 and has had us in the championship game with a huge Sugar Bowl, one of the biggest wins this program has had this century. We are right on schedule if not ahead of it. The Herman haters looked like fools last year. I will make sure to bump this thread again in a few weeks to rub it in their faces again.

All of that is opinion.  Your opinion and other people's opinions.  You know what another name for opinion is, especially when the opinion is extreme and not really backed up by facts?  Hype.

Herman didn't have much of a track record, and there were some red flags in it, too.  He was a beneficiary of hype.

If the motherfucker won't change his staff to fix obvious problems that are wasting his recruiting and holding the program back, he's no better than Strong or Stage 4 Mack, or a dozen other JAGs.

Winning out in this conference after OU is no big deal.  It's the standard.  The standard should also include beating OU about half the time or a little better and winning the conference at about the same rate.

So, in a "few weeks," we will have won out, or not, neither of which are worthy of major congratulations.  We aren't beating OU again this year absent some wild fluke.  The bowl game has the potential to be a major shitshow.

The acid test for Hermy is whether he guts his staff.  And who he hires to replace them.

He has got to shed the dead weight. OU did that and look well on their way to the playoff again and in a much better position to make it to the championship game. The defensive turn around in one year is what we need. Herman has to pull the trigger on them this year or he's setting the program even further behind OU. It's maddening that Baylor looks more poised to give OU a run than we are. Baylor.

I generally agree with your assessment, but not including Lincoln Riley in that championship tier is:

1.) Wrong;
2.) Omitting an important point of consideration for evaluation of the Texas staff.

Dude, based on how our defense played last night....

who do you trust most to burn 4 seconds off the clock, Sam/duv or our fucking defense?   Because I was standing there thinking "oh shit, we left them too much time"

I get that, but if you are stopped in bounds, you lose the game.  It was already just a 38 yard fg.  I could be wrong though.  if so, it's still TH's fuck up for calling a TO so quickly.

Without quoting myself in an earlier post, I should clarify something.  I mentioned "3-5 glaring obvious ST miscues this season".  I meant PER GAME.

He's 2/2 on B12 titles and playoff appearances. Overwhelming favorite to go 3/3 on conference championships and very much in the playoff mix.

I fucking hate Oklahoma but to say they aren't a top 5, championship caliber program under Riley is silly.

exactly. When is the last time OU even played for a championship? 2004 season when they were curbstomped by USC? OU hasn't done shit in the playoffs or BCS in a long long time

A lot of y’all are vaginas.  Fire him and hire who? You really want urban Meyer around this program?  Say what you will about Herman/Strong.  The other bullshit that comes with Meyer isn’t worth it.  Like I said in the other thread, it doesn’t work the way you think it does with knee jerk reactions every time we have a bad game.  Some of y’all need to wake the fuck up and realize that Texas is NOT THERE YET!  To say progress has not been made is ridiculous.  It’s like you expect the program to be Alabama or even Oklahoma level after a decade of wandering aimlessly in the dessert.  Doesn’t work that way.  You can bitch all you want and call for coaching changes all you want, but it’s still a long climb back to the top regardless of who’s in charge.  Respect the chase.

I see a lot of complaining about the assistant coaches, but this team has played unmotivated and coaches have been out-coached (unprepared) the last two weeks. This is on Herman and Herman only. Understand we have had significant injuries and gutted in the secondary, but this was fucking Kansas. We almost lost to fucking 2-4 Kansas again. I really thought Herman was the guy, but he may be to arrogant to get out of his own way.

Hell, Lets bring back Gerg for the rest of the season.

It's as if some folks on here live in a separate reality from our own. Riley's also about to go 3/3 on back to back to back Heisman winners. He's kind of a coach that gets results.

Riley has as many B12 titles at OU as Texas has since 2005. Assuming they win this year, which unfortunately isn't a stretch given what we saw in Dallas, he will have as many B12 titles in three years as Texas does since the inception of the conference. He will have won a championship in every single year he's coached there. That's the definition of championship caliber. Texas fans trying to argue otherwise are really getting in touch with their aggy side.

he was never going to be stopped in bounds unless he just stopped and waited to be tackled, cb was not close and if he was Sam throws it away. Dallas did the same thing last night with 9 seconds left and Dak threw it away, teams do it all the time.

With Riley's offense already installed for two years, Lincoln definitely stepped into a much better Head Coaching situation at blOU than Herman did at Texas.  The same is true for Ryan Day at Ohio State.  But by firing Mike Stoops in Riley's 4th Yr at blOU (2 yrs OC/2yrs HC),   Lincoln proved that he's not afraid to make the difficult but necessary changes to improve his program.

The Texas football program has definitely improved since Herman arrived no doubt.   But after Year 3, Herman better upgrade his Asst Coaching Staff or Mensa won't survive much longer at Texas while Riley/blOU continuing winning more and more B12 Championships.

Honest question.  Has any HC fired/let go of both coordinators and then gone on to achieve major success?   I don’t mean having them leave for other gigs.

Firing both coordinators feels a little like a HC squeezing 2 more years out of a dead gig.  Even firing one coordinator feels a bit like a flashing red light on top of the program.

Saban, Dabo, and maybe Urban have replaced an OC and DC and won a National Championship...

Lincoln fired Mike Stoops.... and so far that's worked out ok too.

I think Urbs had a pretty successful run after cleansing the coordinators that sucked post Herman. Naturally we have one of them here though he’s good at his current non coordination role.

Much of this is correct.  However, there are some unsettling trends shaping up with the program. I can accept losses and even scary wins, if the overall trajectory appears upward. The dipshit play calling and the catastrophe defense, are not upward trends. Neither are the stupid but apparently acceptable penalties and special teams gafs. A decrease in the incidence of penalties and ST mistakes would indicate awareness of, and addressing of the problems. I don't see that. On defense, I see bodies hurtling into the line of scrimmage from the D. backfield with no apparent benefit and an obvious loss of numbers. The DBs seem out of position and always chasing receivers. There's over-aggression in some aspects of the scheme and lack of aggression in others. It's just a shambles.

You don't fire TH now. But he has to demonstrate that the is capable, and humble enough, to learn from his errors. That may be a problem. He also has to accept that  Orlando is not the answer. He's a guy with a scheme that doesn't work, and doesn't seem to change.

Where are we with TH if he tells all the $200 fans they don't know what they're talking about? What if he says all the problems are due to injury and lack of depth? More importantly, what does DelConte do?

Lulz.  The notion of defending a Herman playcall with a Garrett playcall  . . . .

Yeah, it's premature to fire Herman, but "unsettling trends" are the magic words.  In our recent experience, unsettling trends seem not to get reversed.

Good post!

The end of the season will be a turning point in Herman's career, most likely.

I don't put much stock in press conferences and public appearances, but he looks nervous enough that I think he gets what's happening and has a notion of what needs to be done.  In the talking parts, he kind of reverts to that arrogant stance.  I don't put much stock in what comes out of his mouth, really, it's more his subconscious behavior.

I disagree, Herman's loyalty lasts two years as it's part of the hiring agreement. He failed when he allowed the Sugar Bowl to disrupt his plan, we should of turned over 2-3 coaches last offseason with another 2 this year. Now he is in a position where 2-3 changes leave us with another 2-3 coaches here for another year that should also be gone.

Get a real ST coach.

Retain quality analysts for Defense. Don't waste another offseason.

This is the camp I'm in.  Too many built in injury excuses that give Herm enough of a justification to keep him around.

I'm fine with the offense on paper, but there are way too many times when we have to move the ball that it becomes predictable.  We have the talent to blow teams off the ball - something we are still incapable of doing consistently.

Nothing wrong with being confident in your ability as a coach, unless that evolves into arrogance and a refusal to change or adapt.

Believing your own hype and thinking you have superior mental acumen while continuing to pound a square peg into a round hole isn't a recipe for success.
