Kiffin is 4 for 4 in having the team he used to coach hate his guts

I've mentioned this before, but I was in a Knoxville sports bar the night he jetted on TN.  There was absolutely no warning.  That place - a Twin Peaks/Hooters ripoff - went from, "Sweet!  Boobs!" to wanting to burn down the athletic office.  It was incredibly entertaining.

This really does beg the question of "what does the playoff committee do with Ole Miss?"

Either they keep them in as an easy speed bump of an opponent for a favorite big name school that kinda sucks (Notre Dame)

Or

They kick them to the curb and leave them out all together, which allows a team like Texas/Bama/Miami to sneak in. It wouldn't be unprecedented with the way they treated Florida State in the past, but it would make for much better football games.

This mid season coaching fire trend is gonna be hella destructive.  Basically writing the season off of the team that sucks enough to fire its coach and if they have the ability to draw away talent from a playoff team, destroy that school's chances. Wouldn't be surprised to see playoff team fans threatening legal action for torpedoing their chances at a championship or even the school writings some sternly worded letters to the conference or opposing university.

Change the fucking portal date.
Make it a moratorium that HCs cannot interview with teams until after the regular season is over. If that coach is involved in the playoffs or post season activities then after the playoffs then. Period.

Push back stuff so there isn’t this mad ass scramble with the playoff expansion.

I personally hope he doesn’t win shit bc the Kiffin fans have been coasting on the “he just needs the right team/money/talent to win” bullshit for years.

So If Kiffin doesn’t win the MNC at LSU he ain’t never gonna. Period.

Kinda loving the Ole Miss Meltdown

The Cliff Notes here are Ole Miss signed Golding at a discounted rate compared to what Kiffin made, and the staff all got raises to stay.

Raise your fucking hand if you’d turn that down

I'd even move to Baton Rouge for that kinda scratch.

But, it's "just" a $2MM per year raise for Kiffin I think.

The great thing about having that much money in Baton Rouge is that you can have a house that makes you think you are not in Baton Rouge.

I wonder if Kelly is going to sell him his mud mansion.

Probably not even a raise. I wouldn't be surprised of Ole Miss was ready to match.

LSU is a better job than Ole Miss, money aside. It's just better. Recruiting is better. The program is better. The history is better. The food is better.

Ole Miss is pissed off right now because they are seeing reality in their face and all the money they can muster doesn't change it. They had a little sniff at the top and one of the big boys took it away. This is like Schloss leaving A&M for Texas.

"BUT WE HAVE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yeah, but you're still who you are and we're still who we are.

This X 1,000,000. CFB is turning into a fucking clown show with no adults in the room and the rules changing every year. Get your shit together like the pro leagues before you implode and destroy the best competition going (along with the Champions League and World Cup). JFKFC!! We now live in a world where Joey Freshwater is the most in demand coach and Manny _iaz has Duke football in a CCG. Cats and dogs, etc!

This is so wrong. The clown show is exactly why we tune in. No other sport gives you this kind of insanity, drama, stupidity, pettiness and shadenfreude.

Middle ground.  They drop them from 7 to 9-10 and give ND/OU/Bama a home game in the 1st round.

FSU was already arguably the last team in, so the committee had fewer options.

I know why LSU is the better job but I’m not sure I would have left. He can clearly get to the playoffs with a reasonably high seed, the rest is in the games played when there. He’s a legend at Ole Miss and would be able to retire there as a legend. LSU is going to chew him up and spit him out if he isn’t within a hairs width of a title by year 4. I think it’s questionable if he can do it.

I want you to look at the reaction of Ole Miss, from admin to fandom, to Lane leaving and ask yourself how these human beings would act after 4 years of failing to live up to what was done this year. And be honest.

These aren't classy, calm, relaxed, chill people happy to take whatever life gives. Kiffin's expectations at Ole Miss 2026+ are not actually that different from the LSU 2026+ expectations.

We immediately become used to whatever we have. Ole Miss now thinks of itself as a destination even though it is abso-fucking-lutely NOT.

you leave like a deadbeat dad in the middle of the night. You give no indication of anything. You just fly the coop before Stoops can run you down in his golf cart.

but seriously. The Lincoln story on Crimson and Cream from the first hand accounts was stunning.

Ole Miss and their alumni think much more highly of themselves than they should. They aren’t in the same league as LSU, not to mention the blue bloods of the conference, yet they think they are.

Poor LSU fan.

I agree , In 2025 they werent likely to spread rumors of their head coach being a cuck, drunk and absent when they lose a couple of games. Just imagine what 2026 will be like !!

No sir, we are above that. Great call

This. My contact, who was also my roommate for two years there, and Keith Carter are pretty tight. It was because of him, that I became friends with Keith Carter while I was there. Even though I hate basketball, he was a really good dude then, and is a good dude now.
Hearing what my friend has said about how it all went down, has me completely miffed. I hated Kiffin, and the Kiffin hire. And my buddy talked me off the ledge at first. After awhile, I was completely on board with the guy. What I didn’t realize, was that my friend, who was in Kiffin’s circle, had changed his mind about him in the first year. Not as a coach, but as a person. Finding this out was kind of a gut punch, but one I’ll deal with, given that my friend is incredibly optimistic about the fact that Keith’s offer to the staff that Kiffin had on board to go with him, has already reeled in almost everyone but Weis. 90% of the staff is staying put. And Golding, was apparently also the backbone of portal work and recruiting.
I hope all of this works out well, but who knows. I just think it would be poetic justice for Ole Miss to accidentally win a national championship without Kiffin on the sidelines.

Right. So if you know that every fanbase is going to do everything but kill you (and that's probably coming if we're honest) for not dominating, then you put yourself in the best possible position to win.

LSU > Ole Miss

Ole Miss’s capacity to spoil shit for LSU is very real, and has been since I was a student there. If we suck, so be it. But we always get up for that game. Next year is going to be a fun one.

Expectations are lower at ole Miss and I think you can win there. A much more sustainable job imo. Plus as bad as Mississippi is I can tell you Baton Rouge can’t be much better and can be a whole lot worse. Just a dump of place imo.

Dunno, leaving the restaurant in the middle of a recruiting dinner via the kitchen delivery door has a certain panache as well.

Only Joey Freshwater dog humping Ole Miss could distract the nation's attention from the delicious tears rendered as a result of Battered aggy Syndrome!
