Let's cripple schools and local governments at the same time. That sounds like a great plan.

The handful of people who control policy in this state dont live in cities, dont have kids in public schools, want AI to replace human talent, have private security, moats, and jets. Crippling schools and local governments is a core part of the plan.

Would your 10% homestead cap still apply or would the cap be 50%?  If it stays 10%, that fucks every taxing entity's budget and if it's 50%, that fucks the homeowner.  I'm sure they'll figure out a way to fuck both.

~61% would be the correct amount for 5 years at 10% but great question. I assume the plan would be to fuck public school districts.

The market value would be reset every 5 yrs but the 3% cap on taxable value he’s proposing would still be in play. So essentially your taxes would go up 3% annually automatically in perpetuity.

where the caps and revalue cycle really gets tricky is ppl buying and selling, just like with a homestead value cap resetting the same is true here… so all you first time buyers just getting fucked harder down the line where 30 something young family is paying 15k in taxes while bob and Myrtle next door pay 5k for same home

I think he’s skipping a step though as he desperately wanted a ban on taxpayer funded lobbying, ie cities/schools shouldn’t be able to hire lobbyists to help their cause on legislation. It failed to pass last session so they’ll still be able to defend themselves to some degree on this

with that said I’ve heard from an insider that lobbyists are actually losing impact these days bc just about everything is top down leverage voting and the assholes at the top aren’t swayed by hookers/blow/steakhouses, it’s gotta be Jeff Yass level money

(I’ll caveat this with his plan is very light on details but there’s no way his dream plan would allow taxes to skyrocket jump every 5 yrs)

SIAP. Old news but didn't see it posted in this thread.

Next week, San Marcos City Council will vote on a resolution to stop sending "$4,434,675 [that] came from San Marcos residents' taxes" to Israel. Instead of spending taxpayers' money on "Israel's military," the money would be put "towards essential domestic priorities."

It is increasingly sad how local government has to be the adult in the room while dumbasses fuck around in the pink building in Austin and DC.

Obviously this is a political gesture with no practical impact but it is nice the actual desires of the American people get a voice someplace.

It was not immediately clear if the state still has a legal path to restoring the new map in time for 2026. Unlike most federal lawsuits, which are heard by a single district judge and then appealed to a circuit court, voting rights lawsuits are initially heard by two district judges and one circuit judge, and their ruling can only be appealed directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The decision comes 10 days into the monthlong period when candidates can sign up for the March primary. The filing deadline is Dec. 8.

I guess John Carter is my rep again. Ah well. I do enjoy voting against him.

Ditto, but I give his staff credit for replying back to me when I email him about some awful decision he made.

What's your secret?  Every rant I send through his web contact goes ignored or gets a form response full of non sequitur platitudes and ignorance.

The question is will Abbott and Co. follow this order, or go ahead and appeal it to the Supreme Court, meaning there is going to be some waiting period that leads to questions about which map to use.  Betting they force 2026 upon us claiming they had to do something since as far as they are concerned it's still legal until the SC says it is not.

On the other hand, after the way the votes fell in the rest of the country earlier this month, they might want to retreat from that plan that made many of their new districts stretched pretty thin, margin wise.

These are the rumblings from political creatures I know. Major FAFO with the latino, possibly was going to backfire. If so, the court might have done a favor to the GOP

Expect the legal maneuvering to happen quickly now: After the 2011 redistricting, a federal court took issue with the new map that year and the case was then in front of the United States Supreme Court within 11 days #TxLege
