Well it is? We need to not be pussies when Aggy gets a good commitment.

I never felt Jaylon Jones was leaning to us, but still sucks he shut it down this quick.

It is, but to put Texas front and center in a headline about your own damn commitment speaks volumes.

aggy's historical norm is top 20 classes.  Jimbo often got top 5 classes at FSU.  I can see them being top 10 most years as long as he's there.

The problem is that both his mean and median in a season w/o Winston are 4 losses so he was right there at his normal this year at aggy but against a tougher schedule than usual.  NC St, Boston College, Wake Forest, UNC and Syracuse aren't much of a challenge.  How long aggy will put up with that is the real question.

After Bru Year's Day I've been thinking about how less than a year ago I thought our WR haul would be Whittington, Wright, Higgins, and WIlson. We missed on 3/4 and ended up better for it.

We're a very attractive spot for skill position and secondary players. I want Jones but I have no doubt we'll have great DB class regardless. I don't think Ringo is a must get but he's probably priority #1 among DBs.

Really need Ringo. We are talented at corner but not super deep.

2020 lineup w/o new recruits.

CB - Cook, Green, Thompson, Boyce, Watson and Caldwell

S - Sterns, Foster, Brown, Estell, Owens, Adimora

We have a solid two deep.  The sky is not falling.

This is why I wasn't even mad at aggy getting Jones.

2 weeks ago on texags radio, him, Gabe, and Brauninger were so stoked that there were going to be five (5) ags in the Pro Bowl. I mean legitimately thrilled.

Boyce has been complimented multiple times by coaches and practice reports from “insiders”.

Caldwell is a project.

But even without those you have 4 players that you are “confident” in and that doesn’t mention the flex guys like Jamison that can fill in if needed.

Any recruit they got to commit this weekend was going to be the one that shows everyone that Jimbo is still in charge in Texas.  It did not matter who it was or where the kid was from.  San Antonio kid?  --- Oh another San Antonio kid just like last year and this one they desperately wanted from a school that always sends kids to UT.  Dallas - Vodka Tom can't recruit DFW - it's Jimbo Territory.   Austin - It must sting that the best recruit in their backyard belongs to Jimbo.

It's no surprise that a CB would look at both depth charts and commit early to Aggie.  Does it suck to lose a really good Texas kid?  Sure.  But it's Texas.  On to the next kid or if we don't like the next kid on to someone out of state because the staff trust their evaluations and aren't scared.

Since it came up in the thread I'll make a shameless shout-out to a family members business in Austin, Goodnight Loving Vodka. They also help out with former UT football player Bryce Cottrell's brand, Noble Wolf.

Or how about the other Longhorn in the Super Bowl... you know, the one who went to THE SAME FUCKING HIGH SCHOOL as Jaylon Jones.

All these fuck aggy tweets means we should be seeing a letter from a fan from another state that needs to let them know how amazing experience they had driving through B/CS stopping for gas but never left after they encountered two aggy fans decked out in all maroon and they said “howdy feller” to them and stayed all day getting shown all things aggy and got to breathe in the turdition! Perroni

Texas A&M hosted close to 100 prospects on Sunday for its second annual Super Bowl party. The Aggies had a ton of talent on campus, including several composite five-stars and even more four-stars.

As of Sunday evening, there were two commitments to come at the event. That is the same number that came in a year ago and also like last year, there was definitely some momentum built.

NEW COMMITS

The first player to the Aggies on Sunday had actually been in town since late Friday night. Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep defensive back Major Burns, who could play either cornerback or safety, made it a weekend in College Station with three other prospects from Baton Rouge.

Offered only a couple weeks ago, the 6-foot-1.5, 181-pound speedy defender was blown away by the campus and everything else on Saturday. The Crystal Ball predictions starting rolling in at that time for a reason and he made his commitment a little before 1 p.m. Sunday. That made Burns the first defensive commit in the class.

He would not be the only one on that list for long, though.

During the first quarter, Cibolo Steele four-star cornerback Jaylon Jones also announced his commitment to A&M. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior was close to making a commitment to the Aggies back during the season and decided to go ahead and do it on Sunday. He spent much of the evening recruiting other players as well.

Jones was also high on both Florida and Texas with the Longhorns seemingly holding momentum after a recent Junior Day. However, he says he has shut things down now.

NEW OFFERS

Though not quite as many offers as expected went out, the staff did give out a few. They seem to be taking a more cautious approach this year and will likely send out more in-state ones during spring ball.

The first player to receive his offer was Alvin Shadow Creek safety Xavion Alford. Making his second trip in three weekends, the 6-foot, 174-pound defender added the Aggies to an impressive list of offers that have come in the last month or so. He is high on A&M and it was an offer he wanted, but he plans to wait a little bit before committing anywhere.

The next one to be offered was Little Elm cornerback Ryan Watts. A big defender at 6-foot-2, 187 pounds, he did not hold a single offer three weeks ago. Arkansas was the first to give him one and now his total is at 17. With all of the recruiting attention being brand new to him, Watts is not anywhere close to making a commitment anywhere.

The final new offer went to a familiar name in A&M Consolidated wide receiver Devin Price, the son of Aggie defensive ends coach Terry Price.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior was really hoping for that offer and says it is the same offer with the same (lack of) restrictions as everyone else. There had been talk of a potential grayshirt or blueshirt if Price was up to it.

There are some Crystal Ball predictions for A&M and it would be a bit of a surprise if he did not end up as an Aggie when all is said and done.

A FEW PLAYERS MISSING

There were a couple of highly-ranked prospects that had said they would be there that didn't make the trip. That group is led by five-star North Shore running back Zachary Evans. Originally scheduled to spent Saturday night in town, he ended up not making it Sunday either. Evans is likely going to be an uphill battle.

The other five-star running back that was set to be there was Aledo's Jase McClellan, who has been committed to Oklahoma for some time. His mother had a work emergency so he is working to set up another weekend to visit in the near future.

A few other bigger names that did not end up making the trip were Fort Bend Marshall slot Devon Achane, North Shore offensive tackle Damieon George, Memphis (Tenn.) Freedom Prep offensive tackle Chris Morris, Hebron safety Darius Snow and Coppell sophomore athlete KJ Liggins.

BIG MOMENTUM

Even before Sunday's event began, the Aggies were off to a good start for the weekend. One of the players on the trip with Burns was LSU four-star defensive tackle commit Jaquelin Roy. While he remains committed to the hometown Tigers, A&M made a big impression on him and at least has given him something to seriously think about. The Aggies feel they did as much as possible with him.

Fort Bend Austin wide receiver Troy Omeire did not plan to make a commitment this weekend and kept to that. However, after joining several other recruits on campus beginning Saturday, A&M is in good standing with him. He has gone back and forth with the Aggies and Longhorns but A&M has spent the most time at the top of his list and things look good with him.

The Aggies are still in good shape with Fort Bend Marshall four-star quarterback Malik Hornsby. It still appears the national top-100 prospect is likely to be A&M's quarterback in the class.

Mansfield Timberview cornerback Jalen Kimber went into the weekend saying he was not planning to commit and, like Omeire, kept to that. However, the Aggies are in good shape there as well.

It is likely to be an A&M/Texas battle for Bastrop Cedar Creek defensive end Alfred Collins. He was able to spend a lot of one-on-one time with the coaches, which he liked. Collins does not plan to make a decision until his senior season but just continuing to get him back on campus is big.

One of the other big in-state defensive ends in the class is Houston Cy Ridge four-star Vernon Broughton. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defender is high on Alabama, LSU and Texas but A&M at least made up ground on that trio Sunday. He, too, spent quite a bit of time with Fisher. The same is the case with Dallas Carter four-star defensive tackle Branard Wright, who has long been highest on LSU.

Garland Lakeview Centennial sophomore running Camar Wheatonhas some serious speed for a big back at 6-foot, 190 pounds. He is a pretty quiet kid but was also very impressed by what he saw in Aggieland. A&M is in good shape early with him.

The Aggies also did a very good job with another North Shore prospect, class of 2021 athlete Shadrach Banks. The top-rated sophomore athlete in the country, Banks was originally offered by A&M as linebacker after camp this past summer. However, after a huge season for the Mustangs, it seems it would be tough to play him anywhere but wide receiver. That's where he spent Sunday and there is some talk from a couple different people that he could be the one to break the A&M drought at North Shore, where the last player the Aggies signed was in the class of 2000.

Katy Tompkins class of 2021 defensive end Tunmise Adeleye admits he was pretty high on Texas coming in but that the Aggies reminded him of why he has always liked the school, even since A&M was the first to offer.

"It reaffirmed everything I originally fell in love with at A&M," he said.

POTENTIAL OFFERS

Though the three offers went out, a few others could be in line for them at some point in the not-too-distant future as well.

Arlington athlete Jahari Rogers is a high school quarterback but could play either cornerback or receiver at the next level. He met with Jimbo Fisher and is supposed to talk to the head coach again tomorrow. The staff wants to figure out where he would best fit.

A&M has only offered two total tight ends in the class and none in the state of Texas. Dallas Bishop Dunne's Elijah Yelverton is the highest-ranked one and was in town Sunday. He says that the Aggies are going to evaluate him more in the spring and he understands how selective they are being at the position.

Stafford edge rusher Robert Wooten is still a player the Aggies are high on as well. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end/linebacker is one that could earn an offer soon.

A&M has offered a trio of in-state sophomore quarterbacks but another to watch is Jalen Milroe of Katy Tompkins. Fisher went by the school Friday and liked what he saw from the 6-foot-1, 175-pound dual-threat prospect. There was some thought that he could receive an offer Sunday and, while that didn't happen, he is still one to keep an eye on going forward.

Dallas Skyline wide receiver Quaydarius Davis is a 2021 prospect that will likely pick up an offer before long. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound sophomore t has seen some big ones come in early and will be a national recruit. A&M is high on him.

OUT-OF-STATE VISITORS

Despite the event being on a Sunday night, A&M had several prospects from outside the borders of the Lone Star State.

In addition to Burns and Roy, the two other Baton Rouge players to make the trip were Madison Prep four-star athlete Joel Williams and Southern Lab sophomore wide receiver Theodore Knox. Knox has yet to be offered but Williams is a big cornerback target for the Aggies.

Muscle Shoals, Ala., four-star linebacker Jackson Bratton is committed to the in-state Crimson Tide, but that did not stop him from spending the entire weekend in College Station.

Houma (La.) Terrebonne four-star wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas has some impressive offers, including from much of the SEC. The 5-foot-9, 184-pound junior has not been offered by A&M just yet but made his way to town Sunday.

12COMMENTS

Another top Louisiana wide receiver in attendance was sophomore Chris Hilton of Zachary. The 5-foot-11, 166-pound class of 2021 prospect has offers from much of the SEC as well.

The final out-of-state visitor was also the highest-ranked one. For the second time, Virginia Beach (Va.) Prince Anne five-star class of 2021 cornerback Tony Grimes spent close to a week in town. In fact, after arriving on Thursday, he is still there and does not plan to leave until Tuesday

It’s going to be a fun year. We’re really not after a bunch of the same guys as ATM, and watching them twist themselves into ways to puff their chests over guys we’re not interested in will be fun.

As always in the 2020 class, Texas needs to land its big 4 on the DL.

I’m semi-surprised Omeire didn’t commit.

Hopefully Texas is aggressively selling early playing time and depth chart to DL recruits. We already have most of our work done on the OL.

Seems like other programs are negatively recruiting Texas DL targets with our 3 down front and lack of NFL appreciation for Nelson on draft day. Hopefully his success and Omenihu’s late surge can flip the script there.

I know we want all 4 on the DL, do you see any of them choosing Texas early or are they all long recruitments? If we could rap up 3/4 of dL and 4/5 of ol by summer that’s a hell of a start.

I suspect he's just projecting the mentality of the respective fan bases on to recruits.  aggy is indeed very closed minded...

Their commit candidates entering the weekend were Hornsby, Achane, Kimber, and McGlothern

I'd go ahead and pencil those guys into their class, with maybe the exception of McGlothern, who could also end up at LSU or Bama down the road if they push/spend

Jaylon Jones  is a very good player but his commitment is not some kind of Leal coup vs. Texas by a longshot, despite the Aggy mods bullshit. It sounds much more like the Elijah Higgins recruitment. It sounds like Jones is dead set on playing CB and Aggy has sold him on being a "big SEC CB". Like Higgins he didn't really want to hear the truth. Aggy got a damn good one in Jones and if he's more receptive to a move to S later he and Richardson would make a fucking killer tandem at SS/FS. FAARRRR better than anything they have fielded in a while, but if he stays at CB it's another weird take for them.

6'3" guys that run 4.5 shuttles aren't going to be able to play man effectively at all. Jones has exceptional explosive power (as you can see in his vert and the long jump he hit at the Texas camp, as well as the dunk contest), I think he'd be devastating as a FS playing facing the ball. As a CB, I think he'd be great as a FS playing facing the ball.

Aggy nabbing Burns is nice for Texas, as is the eventual Alford commitment, filling their class with guys that Texas has no interest in. they are at 7 commits right now for a class that is going to be maybe 20 guys unless they have a mass exodus/trap door (which would create new and interesting depth chart holes). Let's assume they add Hornsby, Alford, Kimber, Price, Achane, Omiere -- that would get them to 13.

Their WR recruiting is going to get really interesting if they have to take Price. Assuming Demas, Achane, and Omiere all land there - taking 4 WRs in a class that doesn't have big numbers is going to make things tight at LB/DL . I guess they could keep Jefferson and move him to DT instead of just dropping his ass.

I think we should expect them to get a commit or two we aren't expecting, from guys we want.

That's the way it happened last year with Leal and Richardson, when nobody saw it coming.

So Jones was the guy, huh?

I'll expect another few to drop at their junior day.  Would really like to lock up a bell cow this month.

Have any aggie mods said what 2020 class size their expecting?

they have 7 SRs on the roster for this season. For them to get to 20 - they will need to lose another 13 guys. That's AFTER the fact that they are currently over and need to drop dead weight just to get the 2019 class in the door (Even if they don't get Ellison and/or Mowry). That's A LOT of attrition and while they do have some serious dead weight on the roster if you took 13 guys off of it you are hitting the 2-deep with attrition and we know how that plays out.

Madubuike is 100% sure to declare, so that is one of the 13+ they need to jettison for the 2020 class. Jones is a good prospect, I just find it hilarious that the aggy mods always mention Texas when they get a good commit and scoff when Texas goes out and gets a better OOS prospect. It's going to be funny as shit when Texas signs Ringo, and aggy mods keep stroking the chicken of getting Jones from SA.
