I hope two recruits who received calls from our coaches last night are TJ Lindsay and DeAndre Carter.  Would love to flip them from Auburn.

Yeah I’d say both are kind of more needs than wants right now. Lindsay especially. They gotta take 4 at DT.

Auburn is selling into the “we’re going to suck this year, you could play early coming here, no one needs you more” premise along with moneywhips. I think Auburn commits are some of the least likely to decommit based on 2023 results. Not saying it’s impossible, but there are way better targets.

Any senior evaluation options at DT? Throw me some names surly.

Rising 3 stars, recently started playing football.

Rey Kong  (Empire HS; NYC)   Crazy upper body strength.

Abbigot Zilla  (Cinese Central HS; San Fran)  Big body, plays on fire.

Solomon Williams could OV this weekend or during the Kansas visit, depending on his mothers schedule. He wants her to attend.

Gerry says unless Danny Okoye shows up with his mom this weekend ahead of his commitment he says it's Oklahoma basically.

Gerry Hamilton: Texas Longhorns’ path to a third straight top 5 class

Quote

The Texas Longhorns have signed two straight top 5 classes, and there is a path to a third straight after the win at Alabama Saturday. Steve Sarkisian and staff signed the No. 5 ranked class in 2022, and followed up with the No. 3 ranked class in 2023. The 2022 class was made up of two 5-stars, 10 prospects ranked in the top 150 nationally, and 15 ranked in the top 300. The 2023 class included four 5-stars, nine prospects ranked in the top 100, and 15 ranked in the top 300.

A third straight top 10 class remains a sound bet with a number of highly ranked prospects remaining on the board, and several commitments that are expected to make senior season rankings jumps. Texas currently sits at No. 17 in the class rankings with 17 commitments. Twelve teams currently ranked ahead of Texas have 20 or more commitments. The lone team ranked ahead of Texas that has fewer commitments is USC (No. 16), and they have 15 commitments. Inside Texas takes a look at the Longhorns’ path to a third straight top 5 class.

The commitments

Trey Owens, QB, Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 497 (3-star)

Christian Clark, RB, Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 266 (4-star)

Jerrick Gibson, RB, Gainesville (Fla.) IMG Academy #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 65 (4-star)

Parker Livingstone, WR, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 342 (4-star)

Jordan Washington, TE, Houston (Texas) Langham Creek #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 490 (3-star)

Daniel Cruz, IOL, North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 200 (4-star)

Nate Kibble, IOL, Humble (Texas) Atascocita #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 483 (3-star)

D’antre Robinson, DL, Orlando (Fla.) Jones #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 403 (3-star)

Alex January, DL, Duncanville (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 404 (3-star)

Melvin Hills, DL, Lafayette (La.) Lafayette Christian Academy #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 610 (3-star)

Colin Simmons, EDGE, Duncanville (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 6 (5-star)

Zina Umeozulu, EDGE, Allen (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 264 (4-star)

Jordon Johnson-Rubell, S, Fort Worth (Texas) IMG Academy #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 185 (4-star)

Santana Wilson, CB/N, Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 233 (4-star)

Aeryn Hampton, WR/ATH, Daingerfield (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 162 (4-star)

Michael Kern, P, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas #AllGasNoBrakes
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 1761 (3-star)

Texas has to hit on two more 5-stars

The commitment of Simmons in August presented the opportunity for a third straight top 5 class. Now, the Longhorns have to hit on at least two more five-stars with three decisions coming in the next few weeks.

Brandon Baker, OT, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 23 (5-star)
In play: Announcing September 24 out of Texas, Ohio State, Oregon and Nebraska.

Ryan Wingo, WR, Saint Louis (Mo.) University
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 25 (5-star)
In play: Texas and Missouri lead Tennessee.

Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 24 (5-star)
In play: Texas leads Texas A&M, Oregon and others.

Texas in play for a number of Top 300 ranked prospects

Along with hitting on two more 5-stars, the Longhorns must also keep adding top 300 ranked prospects to the class. Texas will likely need to add three or four more top 300 ranked prospects. The EDGE position is taking center stage in that regard right now.

Danny Okoye, EDGE, Tulsa (Okla.) NOAH Homeschool
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 159 (4-star)
The decision:  Announcing September 20 out of Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

Solomon Williams, EDGE, Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 256 (4-star)
In play: Alabama, Texas, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCF

Texas will have to flip a DB and OL

To put a third straight top 5 class on the board, Sarkisian and staff will very likely have to flip a prospect at a couple of positions that are top 300 prospects.

Wardell Mack, CB, Marrero (La.) John Ehret – *Florida Gators commit
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 72 (4-star)

Corian Gipson, CB, Lancaster (Texas) High – *Clemson Tigers commit
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 73 (4-star)

Weston Davis, OT, Beaumont (Texas) United – *Texas A&M verbal
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 101 (4-star)

DeAndre Carter, IOL, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei – *Auburn Tigers commit
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 151 (4-star)

Tyanthony Smith, LB, Jasper (Texas) High –*Texas A&M verbal
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 372 (4-star)

Wild card recruitments:

Terry Bussey, WR, Timpson (Texas) High
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 19 (5-star)
The decision: Bussey will choose out of Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma September 28. The Aggies have led big for months.

Joshua Lair, S/N, Missouri City (Texas) Marshall
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 428 (3-star)
The decision: Will commit September 24 to either Washington or Texas with Baylor also still in the mix. Visited Washington officially over the weekend. The big question is how hard will Texas push in the next two weeks

I think we're pushing harder for Gipson/Davis flips.....Lair is a big hitter but the other guys are more complete DBs

I just don’t believe that Myles Davis is flippable unless the bottom completely falls out at ATM and that may not be enough. His handler is all ATM.

Texas is being quiet about some things. I think we’re going to see a few twists and turns here this fall. Should be fun. If Florida and ATM going into free fall, teams around those programs could have feeding frenzies.

(Gerry Hamilton) Inside Scoop: Five-star updates, Wyoming-Texas visitor list, hoops

Quote

Inside Texas takes a closer look at the latest from a handful of 2024 targets, the early Wyoming-Texas visitor list for Saturday, and more in Monday’s Recruiting Scoop.

Ryan Wingo, WR, St. Louis (Mo.) Saint Louis University
Texas’ top pass-catching target on the 2024 big board watched the Texas-Alabama game with his family on Saturday. Everyone was impressed, including Ryan and his father, Ronnie Wingo. Wingo loved how the wide receivers were used, he told Inside Texas. The offensive machine was something that really connected with the On3 Industry Ranking five-star. The 6-foot-2.5, 205-pounder will take an unofficial visit to Texas this Saturday for the UT-Wyoming matchup. Wingo wants to see the offense up close and personal. Missouri is Texas’ top competition for the St. Louis product, with Tennessee, Georgia, and Michigan in the mix.

Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally
After the Black family watched Texas dismantle Alabama on Saturday night, Kobe Black was certainly impressed by the Horns performance. This is on the heels of canceling his unofficial visit to LSU. Where will he be this coming weekend? Texas is a possibility, per source close to the On3 Industry Ranking five-star.

The latest on two 2025 targets

Michael Fasusi, OL, Lewisville (Texas) –2025
The On3 four-star offensive tackle was thoroughly impressed by the Texas win over Alabama on Saturday night. So when he received a phone call from UT offensive coordinator Kyle Flood on Sunday morning, he was definitely excited. Fasusi and Flood have been growing closer since meeting earlier this Spring. Fasusi loves how the Texas offensive line plays together and how hard Flood coaches his bunch of large humans. Any plans for this weekend? “I might be in Austin on Saturday.” We’ll keep you posted.

Jordon Davison, RB, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei – 2025
Another recruit watching the Texas-Alabama clash was the On3 Industry Ranking No. 3 running back in the 2025 cycle. Davison and Texas RB coach Tashard Choice already have a great relationship, as the west coast prospect has seen the Austin campus multiple times in 2023. Davison loved how the Longhorns offense looked, and how the running backs performed. He’s a maybe for the Texas-Wyoming game on Saturday in Austin. Ohio State is UT’s top competition, with USC and others hanging around the rim.

Offensive line recruiting

The Texas Longhorns continue to wait on the September 24th decision of five-star right tackle Brandon Baker. The 6-foot-4.5, 303-pounder is scheduled to OV to Nebraska this weekend. Texas continues to be in a pretty good spot two weeks out from a decision with Ohio State and Oregon also in the mix.

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood is going to battle on a couple of targets committed to SEC programs. The Longhorns continue to work on getting On3 Industry Ranking four-star and Auburn verbal DeAndre Carter. Carter was scheduled to officially visit Texas for the Kansas game prior to his commitment to Auburn. The two remain in contact about an official visit.

Texas is also working on getting On3 Industry Ranking four-star offensive tackle and Texas A&M commit Weston Davis to Texas. Davis and Texas are talking about an official visit during the season with September 30th for the Kansas game, a possibility. An unofficial visit this weekend is also on the table, but Texas A&M also plays at home this weekend.

Early look at the Wyoming-Texas Visitor List

2024 Prospects

Ryan Wingo, WR, Saint Louis (Mo.) University

Solomon Williams, EDGE, Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day – *Maybe OV

2025 Prospects

Michael Fasusi, OT, Lewisville (Texas) High
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 18

Andrew Marsh, WR, Fulshear (Texas) Jordan
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 16

Cobey Sellers, CB, Manvel (Texas) Shadow Creek
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 165

Tyler Thomas, OT, Dickinson (Texas) High –*Maybe
On3 Industry Ranking: N/R

Hoops Recruiting

The Texas Longhorns hosted five-star power forward Asa Newell over the weekend. The 6-foot-9 skilled forward had a tremendous official visit based on the intel Inside Texas received. Georgia and Texas are for sure in this one with Alabama trying hard and Indiana somewhere on the list. The scenario to follow with this recruitment would be the family moving to where Asa is for his year in college. If that becomes the case, the Georgia Bulldogs would have a leg up with his older brother already being on the team in Athens.

Texas continues to trend positively for five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson ahead of an Alabama OV this weekend, and Baylor to end the month. This will be a Texas vs. Baylor decision barring a major change.

Some folks who get paid well to cover recruiting think that Ryan Williams is one of the best WR prospects … ever. He’s apparently a fucking jedi playing wideout and simply does things that no one else at the HS level does. We don’t want him at Bama. Getting him would be a holy shit moment.

Pay Me GIF

idk how you can look at the Bama WR results the last 2 years and say "yeah, this place is still a WR factory" - add in the very real concerns about QB rooms and offensive schemes ("murderball"), whatever is happening with Holmon Wiggins and reclassifying - the guy has plenty of reason to look around

all that said he has visited Bama more than everywhere else combined per on3 or 247
