DACA, immigration reform whatever

Dems are pathetic for just going along with this "crisis" framing. People are being herded, forcibly, by a police force. Then, when the media makes a spectacle of the herd, politicians are falling over themselves to label it a "crisis," as if these artificial crowds are somehow any different from or worse than 7AM at ABIA.

People have migrated for centuries, and they will continue to migrate until the end of time (which could be soon, given the actual crisis of global climate change). I guarantee not a single person in that crowd has fentanyl on them either.

Yep.  The GQP has no desire to do anyting related to the border.  FYI, the 115th Congress was controlled by rhe GQP and had Trump in the White House.  Why did they not do anything then?  Rather, they shoved through tax cuts for billionaires.  Republican voters are complete morons.

Well he’d probably be pumping money into some shadow organization that half-assedly supported Ukraine so he could maintain plausible deniability in case things went south, because that’s how he rolled.  But yeah he would like to defeat Russia.

I think the USSR being ruled by a dying gerontocracy comprised of entitled, selfish shits who were desperate to cling to power had more to do with it.

It's a good thing we'll never experience something like that.

Right there with you. Vet the shit heads and let Mama and the kiddos come in. Wow, labor, tax base, etc.

So what I wrote is aimed at that. Do it there so they do not need to walk to our border.

We need more courts / processing centers / border patrol personnel / better software to track it all / more staff and avenues for aide / non political fences (in the proper locations) / speedier vetting - processing

The R house can pass all that at anytime <<< this is the crisis

The immigration system in the US, and every other country, is based upon a set of processes and procedures for gaining entry lawfully and orderly. If you let them all in, as you suggest, not only do you destroy that system, you encourage a flood of millions upon millions of people to try and cross illegally. The system is already at the breaking point in handling the volume. An unlimited volume of immigrants is not a great idea.  I don’t understand why you would advocate for this. It seems like a horrifically bad idea.

This isn’t pre-income tax, pre-welfare state like during Ellis Island’s heyday.

Because there’s laws involved with entering any country. Also, the levels of illegal immigration currently happening are straining finances and social services of multiple parts of the country. But besides that, great idea.

I’m curious how all the shitheads will be vetted. Also, what’s the percentage breakdown of male vs female etc? In Europe it’s overwhelmingly young males. Is that the best makeup for a society taking all these people in?

As far as the tax base goes, low educated/skilled illegal immigrants are a net negative fiscally.

right? we could disperse 10 million immigrants into hundreds of thousands of communities throughout the us and nobody would even notice.

who makes those laws?

we could do this if we really wanted to. instead people feel better bitching that "nobody wants to work anymore" because...? I do not know. evidently we have "record numbers" of people who want to work but i guess no, because...?

For the reasons I already listed in that paragraph. If you think a flood of 10’s of millions of illegal immigrants pouring across the border with no stoppage is not an obviously bad idea, then I don’t know what else to tell you.

Your views are truly nonsense. To believe that 10’s of millions of illegal aliens pouring across the border is a good idea is simply crazy and not worth wasting any more time discussing it with you.

I'm not saying we should have "illegal aliens pouring across the border. "

what I'm presupposing is that... maybe we make them legal?

What actual societal problems would it cause? Not would it get backed up in the courts. That’s not a problem. Hire more judges. What real world problems would there be?

Hire lawyers, send them to Central America. A peace corps for immigration. Qualify people there.

Like it or not, they are coming until the situation improves in Latin America. Lets face it and do something. It would cost less to have camps there than in the US. I know a few of the groups running them. They LOVE this shit. Double billing on diapers, oh noes, we need more water, and the price it $18 a case today.

What we need, and won't have, is a solid strategy to handle the reason for immigration while we contend with those who are here. Juan goes to school in the US? Well shit, I want him to have the best education we can provide. Maybe he will go home, a lot do, and change some shit.

I don’t understand why there is no other option than “millions of illegal aliens pouring across the border”?  Why are you being hyperbolic about it?  As others have said, there is a way to handle this if we really wanted.

Maybe you should review the posts a little more closely. That is exactly what I’ve proposed. It’s the other posters who’ve said let everyone in that shows up, with no rejection of those who try to enter illegally. If you simply let millions in illegally, what do you think happens next? When the next wave of 5-50 million people sitting in central and South America see what happened, what do you think they are going to do?

You know what I love? How when our country wants to solve a problem by wreaking destruction, we think strategically: in WWII, we didn’t focus exclusively on destroying German tanks and aircraft on the battlefield. Nope. Our main strategy was to take out their sources of fuel, and the factories that built them. We went to the source, and we cut off the problem right there.

Today, if you accept the rhetoric that Latin American immigration is a super-serious crisis, and an existential threat to the US, our ENTIRE strategy, as sold to us by the folks screaming those things, is “build a wall and more border enforcement!”

We will spend billions upon billions to attack immigration “on the battlefield.” When we could spend almost assuredly LESS than that attacking the problem at its source: if we invested money in helping Central American states stabilize and have decent employment/earning opportunities (e.g., pay incentives to US manufacturers to bring some of their manufacturing back from Asia and put it in Honduras)….immigration from those countries would slow to a trickle.

But we won’t do that. Why? Everyone on here knows why, but the immigration hawks won’t admit it: having a scary brown boogeyman to point at is WAY too politically useful, and solving the issue would take that away from them. And we can’t have that. How can you spew constant fear porn if you’ve eliminated the very thing we’re all supposed to fear?

Every one of these countries existed 50+ years ago. Every one of them had a large poor population. Yet, we weren’t “overrun” with people hauling ass out of there. Hmmmm….what has changed? The conservative immigration hawks also won’t like the answers to THAT question, being that much of what changed is directly attributable to their political pals.

TLDR; the Central American immigration “crisis” is largely a creation of the American right, and is the central political foundation for the American right, so they never, ever want the “crisis” to go away. They’ve proven this by their action/inaction for the past 20 years.

Been hearing this for 35 years now. In that time, California has continued to outpace other states to cement it's status as the economic, cultural, and technological powerhouse of this country. But sure, I bet it's collapse is imminent.
