The first year of the committee and playoffs I remember several game broadcasts mentioning how the members were all issued tablets so they could watch all the games.  As if they all wanted to watch as much football as humanly possible, but they were constricted by the lack of a tablet.

That reminds me, it is so damn stupid that active Athletic Directors are on this committee determining playoff spots.

The entire committee should be former coaches, players, people who actually know the game. Hell, get Joel Klatt in there. Not fundraisers who hand out dumb coaching contracts every few years.

Just schedule Nebraska every year and be done with it.

I'm all for an easier schedule, but we have to schedule someone with at least a tiny chance of beating us.

Yes, if he loses the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl

Incidentally, has anyone ever tried eating Cheez-Its while drinking orange juice? It sounds awful

So Rice?emoji1739.png

It’s why I want to be independent. We can schedule teams from any conference. SMU and Rice and UNT one year and Arky and Miami and Nebraska the next. Spread it around. Still have a win or two vs a bigger ranked opponent.

style points do not matter. W/L record matters more than SOS obviously it feels like. So having signature wins are not that impressive except in terms of rankings. Sark admires the NFL. He should know that the Cowboys ain’t getting into the playoffs based on beating the Chiefs at Thanksgiving as awesome as that was. They have to have a better win loss record. So that’s what matters. Strength of Schedule only matters in terms of the Ap poll I guess.

I must admit..... that sentence ended up in a completely different zip code than I thought we were heading two thirds of the way through it.

The active AD thing is very questionable considering how many around college athletics have made some questionable decisions affecting their own institutions.  And costly ones at that.

Marcus Freeman! Of course he’ll want to come here! We’re Texas!

I thought I was just reading something about ND sucking and being overrated. Freeman probably for sure wants out of that position.

Where is the Freeman loving coming from? Are people ignoring the rest of his record in favor of beating Indiana, Ron Franklin and Georgia once, then losing to OSU by 11?

There's a whole lot of ugly in his actual resume.

Inherited 11-1 Notre Dame team when Kelly left Nov 29 for LSU. Ranked #5, lost his bowl game to #9 Oklahoma State. 0-1 against Top Ten.

2022- 9-4

Lost to Marshall at home and a 3-9 Stanford team, also at home. 1-2 against Top 10. W #4 Clemson, L #2 OSU and #6 USC.

2023- 10-3

Lost to #25 Louisville and unranked Clemson. 1-1 Top 10. W #10 USC, L #6 OSU

On OSU's game winning drive, ND only had 10 players on the field TWICE.

2024- 14-2

Lost to Northern Illinois at home. Got hot in the playoff and beat #8 Indiana, #4 Penn State, and #2 Georgia (only impressive thing he's done.)

Lost to OSU by 11 (Note: Sark also lost to OSU by 11).

2025- 10-2

Lost to #10 Miami and #16 aggy. Only 2 ranked wins, #20 USC and #22 Pitt.

He inherited a #5 ranked 11-1 squad and has put up a cumulative record of 43-12.

Avg record 10.75-2.75 playing service academies, Michigan State, Purdue, and scrub ACC teams.

Cumulative record against Top 10  5-5. Wins against Dabo, Lincoln Reilly, Cignetti, Smart, Ron Franklin. Losses to Gundy, Day, Reilly, Day, Day).

Aside from playoff run 2024 against Top 10  2-4 Wins against Dabo, Reilly. Losses to Gundy, Day, Reilly, Day

Losses at home to Marshall, Northern Illinois, aggy.

Losses on road to Louisville and unranked Clemson.

He'd be a disaster against a real schedule.

Also…it is not necessary to send HC’s out  to politick for a spot in the playoffs. The committee doesn’t care. I highly doubt they even heard one sentence any of the HCs said.

I don't think it's going to get us in the playoffs, but it's an important step to showing just how fundamentally broken the system is.

Also to setting the narrative when Texas drops marquee out of conference games. We're not ducking competition, we willingly joined the SEC. We'd happily keep playing Ohio State and the like, but it's stupid in this reality.

The committee says they care about strength of schedule and who you play, but the whole thing was a lie.

10-2 Texas hosts a home game. 9-3 Texas is out.

Schedule accordingly.

It was just before the Fight Hunger bowl game in his 5th year at Washington when Sark left to take a new job. If Sark coaches in our upcoming bowl game, he will officially have head coached at Texas longer than he has at any other institution.

Sark’s talking points on all of the radio (SXM) and etc is a moot point, unless there is a mess of underdogs winning this coming conference championship weekend.  Committeemen/women have consistently only looked at the # in the Loss column, regardless of SOS.  They preach SOS, but in the end only defer to the overall record and Loss column.

Hate it for season ticket holders, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see us get out of hosting OSU early next year, as that’s the game that kept us out this year (most likely Florida).  Michigan the following year, then H&H with ND.  Are we actually going to replace those with North Texas and/or Rice, Abilene Christian?  We’ll know by the end of January.

This is a good post. I’ve been very luke warm on Freeman. However, it’s important to know what level of NIL he has available to him. Because when I watch his teams play, they do have a certain toughness about them. And he is able to get some very good talent. Maybe just not enough due to NIL limitations?

But this is all a moot point. Sark is here for next year, and probably beyond.

He's got NFL jobs to interview for, right?

My thoughts were no way the bfl would give him a look but I’m probably wrong.  Look at some of the people that have gotten jobs over the years. Joe judge? Callahan?  34 year old Lane? Look at guys like stefanski, mcvay, oconnell etc.    they weren’t known brands

I’d bet money Sark interviews well and like it or not this looks like a Texas turnaround.  So yea I’m starting to think maybe he is a viable and attractive candidate.

It was absolutely necessary. No-win situation but he did a good job with the media interviews  His talking points about OOC games were parroted by a lot of national media and probably added some needed pressure for the selection process moving forward.

Now, go hit the portal hard.

If Sark comes back, fine.

I just want a more dedicated version of his best self. This probably means we should hire a PI to tail him, if we haven't already. This year, we underachieved, based on expectations and the investment in the roster we have.

Undeniable this was an underachieving year.
