The primary payout by Texas A&M University in connection with the 1999 Aggie Bonfire collapse was $2.1 million, agreed upon in October 2008. Under that settlement:

  • $500,000 was paid directly by the university (the maximum allowed under Texas tort law),

  • The remaining $1.6 million came from insurance policies covering university administrators
