Yes, angry Texas fans, this is indeed real.
Kelley Ford of KFordRatings, one of the most well-known compilers of advanced statistical profiles on the internet, is always thinking up interesting new ways to look at the stats his system yields. No statistical profile is perfect, of course, but one of the things that sets Ford apart is the level of detail and innovation he puts into some of these numbers.

Accordingly, he has begun to put together "watchability scores" for any given game on the calendar. The ingredients to those scores are the projected quality of the teams involved as well as the competitiveness of the matchup— a pretty straightforward mix of factors.
Ford will release these watchability scores each week to show what the best game is in given time slots— pretty handy to consult, really! But, today, he dropped the top-30 teams in average watchability score— and the Aggies came in as a top-5 team in the rankings, while one other team in particular... did not.
Statistics show Texas A&M to be more watchable team than Longhorns in 2025
If these numbers are any guide, there will be more people tuning in to catch the Aggies' games than there will be for those down in Austin:
The interesting thing here is that Texas is projected as the top team in Ford's rankings— so if Arch doesn't turn out to be what some of the pundits surrounding the program have projected (and at this point, let's face it— how could he?), then their watchability score will only decrease as their team quality does.
Of course, the opposite is true for the Aggies, who are by all accounts pretty underrated at this point (though Ford's model has them as a team that could well be in playoff discussion by the time the end of the season rolls around). They have a definite upward trend line here.

Some Texas fans, I'm sure, would want to argue that this low watchability score is due more to their opponents not being as good— which, of course, would mean that they have a much softer schedule. Maybe you're cutting your nose off to spite your face, there.
In reality, these are two top-ten teams that should have plenty of eyes on them throughout the year, both with big time road matchups over the course of the season. These numbers will look different by the end of the season, of course, even if the relative positions don't change— but this is a pretty interesting tidbit, nonetheless.

"More Watchable Than Texas in 2025".....put it on the wall. Everyone loves to see a good train wreck.

That's a fair description ... for critical-thinking-challenged Aggies who buy the implicit argument that there are only two factors involved in "watchability" -- how competitive you are and how likely your opponents are to make it a close game. Then Ags can conveniently ignore factors that also make a team inherently watchable, like All-American players and trophy candidates, being in the playoff picture, or being the blueblood that everyone loves to either hate or love. Good-looking cheerleaders. A fine band. A better setting. History.

In a two-factor formula, everyone's local high school will have at least a couple more games that are more "watchable" than, for instance, Texas 8-4's annual November FCS matchup. Except in years when aggy manages to suddenly find itself in a highly watchable fourth-quarter upset.

Bluebloods who consistently play head and shoulders above the lesser teams on their schedule will inherently have a couple more games on average that are less watchable than many games on an also-ran's schedule.

Oh, but look who has three of the top five most watchable games of the season ... and who has a game that falls all the way to 61 on the scale because its opponent isn't as competitive ...

@DFW Horn, after puzzling over the KFord site and how he came up with those watchability scores, I've concluded that you're on to a measure better than Ford's. He must have some relatively arbitrary (and probably flexible) weighting number to make that 10-point watchability scale based on the KFord rating and KFord spread.

You're right -- everyone loves a train wreck. You should copyright a "Train Wreckiness" score to pull in some clickbait money. Graham and whatever loyal aggy readership he has are probably good for some rabid visits. (His "angry Longhorns" comment was a hoot. As if folks can't identify a good game already.)

I just read his stuff here as a matter of principle, but maybe I ought to contribute traffic to his site so he has a little more encouragement to keep amusing us.

You raise an interesting question. Is he really here for their entertainment or ours? Is he just a master at drawing all of us? 5D chess. Maybe he's Surly, making a few extra bucks off of both crowds.

Maybe YOU are Graham?

Theres 14 other teams in the SEC besides us and aggy, but as long as the “advanced” “metrics” say aggy is more watchable than Texas, they’re happy

The absolute most telling thing about this chart - #61.  Look at it aggy.  See if you can figure it out.

And look at how many games Arkansas and OU have on the chart ... because their games will be more competitive.  Texas games with A&M and OU are down in relative competitiveness, and UT's game with Arkansas doesn't even make the top 100 because it's not expected to be close enough.

But check the peak viewership scores for Texas-Arkansas and A&M-Arkansas and I bet they're higher for the former, at least during the early part of the game. Average Nielsen viewership for Texas-Arky was 4.5 in 2024 (Week 12), and it was 1.5 for A&M Arkansas (Week 5).

So the Aggies, who suck, play a lot of other teams that suck, so the matchups are better and more entertaining.

While the Horns, who are good, will likely overmatch most of their opponents, leading to less entertaining games.

Um, OK, Graham.

At this point, I'm almost convinced Graham is a Surly sock trolling aggy. @Beau Vine is the lead suspect, since he posts that drivel multiple times a week.

Could be, but then he'd have to be at least friends with real-life Graham, who from all indications actually exists. I'd be pleased to find out it's a ruse with that level of complicity. At least it's far more entertaining and unifying than the incessant infighting and name-calling of the final weeks of the pre-season.

Man, it's been a beating to read the Fall Camp thread, among others, these past few days. Can't wait for things to get started. And on that note, I realize I'm missing the first full day of Bundesliga play, so I'm out.

@Beau Vine and I have both been accused, multiple times, of being Graham.

Perhaps, we are both Graham, perhaps neither.

Regardless, Graham is a gift of perfect aggie propaganda written in more entertaining prose than anything Billy can generate.

If they lose to Texas, it can’t be “the year.” By definition.

This is fucking amazing. First, I’ve never heard of KFordRankings. Second…holy shit. The whole premise is a&m is more watchable than Texas because we’re going to blow out our opponents more often. Ho. Lee. Shit.
